[Video] 1st Spear - no rest for the weary

[Waking up wasn't the weird part. Of course he'd been groggy; anyone would be after watching a dear friend die for no reason. No, he'd been expecting not to wake up for a while. It's everything else that's strange. ...Well, there's no point in crying. He's still completely overwhelmed from home and now this, but hell if he shows it.

Ken mainly just looks tired, and not the kind more sleep will help. Deal with the present first, the future can wait.]

'Genessia', huh? ...My name's Amada Ken. [Asking if it's true there's no way back would be pointless, and he's not sure he wants a way back just yet anyway. He holds the flier with the Don't Panic message up to the screen.] How trustworthy is this guy? And....is there anything in particular we're supposed to do here? Or is it just pretending things are normal?

[He'd much rather have some sort of purpose here. A way to keep busy.]

[Man, it's just a kid. Yeah, this is definitely the youngest person he's seen. Shinjiro's brow tenses and he's got his chin propped on one hand, steel-colored eyes staring hard at the screen.]

Amada Ken, huh? [Pause.] You can call me Shinjiro. It's nice to meet ya, even if it is under shitty circumstances.

[Alright, now that introductions are out of the way, he's lifting his head and rubbing at the back of his neck.]

Well, I ain't been here much longer'n you have. So far, it's lookin' like all we can really do is just...pretend everything's normal. [He makes a thoughtful noise, moving his head to run it through messy brown locks- ones that weren't covered by a beanie, in fact.]

Guess that's 'bout all I can tell ya. Anything else you wanna know about, feel free to ask. Even if I don't know the answer, I'm sure there's somebody around here that does.

[A kind smile, somewhat sympathetic and understanding, appears as he greets the newcomer.]

Well, so far, that seems like our best bet- pretending everything's normal, and just...going on about our lives. Don't worry, though. Not all of us are giving up on figuring out a way home, even if we are going with the...flow? Guess that's the best way to put it...

[He sets the device down on the table, below him. Propping his chin on both hands, he lets out a sigh as he peers down at the device with a faintly tense expression.]

Guess you could say it's our way of keeping things calm. So far, there's only been one monster attack that I know of. Other than that? Things have been...kind've boring.

[Then, he blinks.] Oh! I'm Sora, by the way. It's nice to meet you, Amada.

[...And cue the absolute last person Ken expected to see. Before Shinjiro even says his name, the kid is reacting. Confusion, shock, fear...pain. This isn't possible. Shinjiro is dead.

Ken opens his mouth. Closes it. That's got to be him, there's no way it's anyone else. Opens it again as his breath catches in his throat and he looks - for a short moment - like he might cry.] Th-This is.... But you're supposed to be-!!

[Wait. Think a little. The person on the screen looks...younger. Less angry, less distant. How?

He's frozen for a long moment, not even registering the older boy's words. Staring. When he speaks again, it's a choked whisper. He'd resolved to live for them. If Shinjiro's talking to him...] Did I....screw up....?

Nice to meet you, I'm Yuna. [She looked a little concerned, he looked tired, but she was going to at least try and help by answering his questions.]

Well, I've never really met the guy myself, but if he wanted to help us by giving us this flier then I'm pretty sure he can be trusted.

[You're fucking kidding him, right? That's just...a damn kid...

Sadafumi's expression makes it pretty clear just how unhappy he is with seeing such a young boy on this thing. He casually moves the cigarette out of the view of the camera, before speaking with a sigh.]

Well, for starters, you won't manage to get home any faster by fightin' against the guy. I can't say how trustworthy he is, since I doubt anybody's even met him. I can say, though, that he hasn't proven to be a liar.

Your best bet is to just stay calm.

[Don't mind him, Ken. He's kind of feeling protective of you. Seeing as he just lost his own son, he feels the need to look out for all the young people.]

[Chihiro is somewhat nervous about using this so often, but he found it was at least useful and helped him at least talk to others. Not face to face buy sometimes steps were good.]

I would like to think that we can just pretend things are normal. [Better than what he had back home at least. So much better.] Though, I can't say for sure that there is anything we are suppose to do in particular because I haven't been here for long enough yet. [He pauses for a moment before bowing slightly.]

Oh, I-I'm Chihiro Fujisaki. I'm sorry I didn't say my name sooner. Amada-kun

[Huh...?

...The brunette's picking the device up to get a closer look at the screen. His expression tenses in confusion as he studies the younger boy's expression for a moment. What...the hell?]

Screw up...? The...hell're you goin' on about, kid?

[Genuine confusion rests on his face as he tilts his head at the screen..] Calm down, alright? Take a...deep breath, or something, 'cause you're seriously not makin' any sense.

Monster attack? What kind of monsters? [Is it Shadows? Maybe the Dark Hour exists here too. Or...something. With what just happened right before he got here he can't be sure of anything.

He shakes his head briefly. Don't dwell on that, not right now.] So....we just live here, go to school, do normal things? What about home? Is there even a way to know if home's okay?

Nice to meet you, too. [Huh... So he's a mystery.] The information about him is kind of strange, though.

[He looks the flier over again. Purses? Entertainment? Wizard?] Guidance isn't always trustworthy, either.... But if most people here trust him I guess it's okay.

It's nice to meet you, Amada Ken. I'm Sai. [This is certainly the youngest person he's seen. It serves as proof that the party responsible for bringing people here, is furthest from discriminatory. Male, female, young, old, human, inhuman...

They seem to be covering all of the bases. He speaks in calm and seemingly friendly tone.] I'm afraid his level of trust has yet to be measured.

[Though, said "he" does continue to remain hidden. Maybe the person is a coward. Or simply finds meeting the latest citizens of Genessia a waste of time.

Or maybe he's just incredibly shy.

Well, whatever the case, Sai isn't amused by any of this. His "smile" is nothing more that a facade, as he assumes it's something that people prefer to see. Smiles are what people use when they're greeting one another. It's something that normal people use, right?]

As of right now, the answer to your last question is a 'yes'. That is the most rational option, at the moment, for civilians. Returning to a lifestyle most familiar would aid you in remaining calm.

[He taps his chin a moment.] Well, all I really know is it wasn't Heartless or Nobodies. They were called Big...wana? Something like that.

[He shrugs.

To the last questions, Sora's lowering one hand and offering an exasperated smile.] That's about it, yeah.

[He struggles to hold his smile at that very last question, though.] Well...so far, I haven't figured anything out, with that...actually.

[Looking away from the camera, now.]

[Normally, he might see that expression and scowl at it. He doesn't want to be seen as just a kid! He' sick of it. But at the moment he's...too spent to care much, and figures he must be a pretty sorry sight anyway.]

That's good to know. [So he's either honest, or good at manipulating information and experience. Like Ikutsuki.] So...I just get a job, then? [The pamphlet mentioned jobs. He'll have to keep up his training and studies, too.]

It seems like a bunch of people haven't been here very long... Any idea how long this has been happening? If there are fliers and pamphlets it's gotta be pretty organized.

[That, or this was planned. Which means even more organized.]

[Huh... Another person who says to just act natural for now. Seems like the safest option, in that case. He struggles not to flinch at the last line.]

Familiar... [Nothing will be the same again. Even if he were back home.] Right. So believe the flier, don't trust the guy behind it, and follow the crowd for now. [Sounds simple enough.]

[What isn't making any sense is this situation.] If you're here, then I must have- I promised I wouldn't....

[His eyes squeeze shut as he struggles not to cry. Everything he was pushing aside to deal with later just burst free, and he can't do this here. Not in front of him. He sets the videophone down nearby, covering his face with his hands. He needs to calm down. Be rational.

The Gekkoukan symbol on his jacket is visible.

It takes him a few moments, before he carefully follows the instructions to switch this to a private call. Focus on something else. Keep it as secret as possible. He forces his voice to be level and measured, for all he's shaking and refusing to look at the screen.]

You're... Aragaki Shinjiro, aren't you? Hierophant Arcana, and your Persona is....Castor.

[He smirks lightly.]

Well, unless you wanna find someone to room with, you'll definitely need a job. Practically everyone else, around here, is rooming together, though.

[Shinjiro expression tenses when he hears those words. How does...this kid, of all people, know those things? Shinjiro doesn't even notice that his own shoulders are tense. He's getting a...bad feeling from all of this, and he's not even sure why?

There's a moment before he manages to find his voice.]

How the hell...do you know all that?

That shouldn't be too hard. I'm used to living with other people. [And a dog. Who was also people. It's just the trust factor to stop him.]

What kinds of jobs are there? [He'll make himself busy as soon as he can. That's what his leader would do, isn't it?]

[...It's really him. The weight that settles around Ken is almost visible. He can trust him. He doesn't know up from down here, but he knows he can trust Shinjiro. Even if he never got a chance before.

But....why is he younger? Why doesn't he recognize Ken?]

I-I'm sorry- [Wait, he wouldn't know what this is about, would he?] I-........

[There's a long, awkward pause. He sighs in defeat.] I don't...understand what's going on. We're both members of SEES. You should know that.

Well, that's good, then. [A reassuring smile and nod.] I've got a good feeling about you, kid. I think you'll be just fine.

[Call it old man instinct. Or something.

That last question earns a glance to the side for a moment, and he takes a long drag of the cigarette.] Well, there's just about anything you could imagine, honestly. Restaurants, bookstores, the mall...

[He lowers the hand with the cigarette and shrugs.] Well, if you want, I could take you by a couple of the places I know for sure are hiring.

[He grits his teeth at those last words. Then...then he just has to hope whatever the hell Minato did that day worked. There was no Dark Hour, but....maybe with their memories gone, they turned into coffins just like everyone else... But he has to believe in his leader. The world wasn't covered with Shadows-

Wait. Sora mentioned enemies.]

What are Heartless and Nobodies?

I'd appreciate that. Thank you.

[If this guy has faith in him so quickly....that has to mean something good, right? Even if he still calls him a kid. Maybe he can eventually get some kind of job related to law-enforcement, that sounds good. Justice, not revenge.]

[The apologies confuse him, even more. The brunette sets the device down on the table, and then pauses to take a long drink of water. The tense atmosphere has his throat completely dried out.]

[He picks the device back up and gives the kid another hard stare. So, he's in SEES, apparently...? That's just...too far-fetched.]

Look...Amada, right? [He's keeping his voice as steady as possible.] I can say, without a doubt, that...I definitely don't remember meeting you. I can't deny you know things that nobody else should- especially not some kid, but...

[He pauses a moment, and scrubs a hand through his hair.] Right now, it's just me, Aki, and Kirijo. Just the three of us, nobody else.

[He narrows his eyes a moment, then gives Ken a curious look. Well, because he can't deny that this kid knows some pretty serious stuff, he's going to try putting the pieces together.] Alright...

[His brow tenses.] How 'bout this, then? [He lets out a sigh.] What day did you join?

[Another person to explain those enemies to...

Well, it won't be the last person. Sora gives a wry smile as he starts on a practiced explanation. He's learned from the last few explanations he's had to give.]

Well, Heartless are these creatures that go around stealing people's hearts. Not their...physical heart, but their...feelings, emotions, ...everything that makes up who they are. [He's had one too many people assume he means the thing that pumps blood.] And...

[He glances to the side.] Nobodies are the shells of the people that...get left behind? They take on a life of their own, and immediately begin the search for a heart to replace the one stolen from them.

[Sora glances back to the camera.] Back in...the universe I come from, those are the enemies I have to fight.

[This is....strange. That describes the past. There's no way Shinjiro wouldn't remember their 'meeting', and there were only three founding members... So did some kind of time travel happen?]

There's- [A frustrated noise. Should he even bring it up, if it hasn't happened yet from Shinjiro's perspective?] I joined SEES on August 28th, 2009. But I was experiencing the Dark Hour for about two years before then.
