[Action]

[Those close to the forest on the afternoon of the 17th might hear the thunderous crashing of trees and possibly even see a towering figure high above the treeline blotting out the sun. Yet just as soon as it appears, it seems to fade away with a magical poof. Any soul brave enough to go to the center of the flattened trees to try to figure out what that was, will see a very large bird angrily stomping on some mushrooms]

Stupid, stupid Mira! It's all fun and games until you're too big!

[Video]

[The video feed clicks on with some difficulty, to reveal a bird the size of a small house trying to handle the much smaller device.]

Excuse me? Could anyone please deliver a cake to me in the Fayren forest? I'm worried about getting too close to town at my size and... this is the smallest form I can transform into besides a fish.

...and for that matter, why a cake?

Well... not exactly.

[With a little flash of light, the bird that was Mirajane transformed into a fox that was nearly four stories tall, and too large to really see entirely on screen. Her next words are a bit more booming even though the tone suggests she's whispering it.]

I have other forms, but they're all quite a bit larger. My human form is too big for me to even see my device that easily at the moment. My friend Erza had managed to shrink thanks to trying to eat cake, so it's possible that any cake or pastry if brought into the magic of Fayren might get me back down to a manageable size.

Overwriting an unknown magic with an unknown magic... I guess you could call that the brave approach.

If you want to try it I could grab something, though.

If you could, I would greatly appreciate it. Even if someone else manages to bring me a cake before you do, at least then I'll have extra cake to share with my guild once this madness ends.

[As almost an afterthought, she adds another comment.]

I will of course reimburse you if necessary.

[She's there in about ten minutes. Normally she doesn't hurry but she's in this to... well... see a giant person? When you put it like that it sounds pretty lame to rush over, but it's something to do and point is she doesn't want to get there second.]

Thought I might as well get something baked in this world.

[Evangeline takes a pastry box from a bag and holds it in front of her. Though... she looks from the not especially large box she's carrying to the giant fox.]

...can you eat like that?

[Mirajane the giant fox stops to think about it for a moment.]

It'd probably help if I go to the smallest size I've got. When I transform can you just stick a piece in my mouth?

[She poofed into a the form of a fish, about the size of a car or horse drawn carriage. She couldn't exactly breathe like this, but it should only be a minute or two.]

[That... that's a giant sentient fish. Flopping around on the ground. She lives with a bunch of shapechanging monsters... is one, if you're loose with your definitions, and that's still kind of weirding her out.]

Can... fish even swallow outside water? Look just change back, I'll throw it in your mouth or something.

[Mira makes a few more unintelligible fish sounds and flops, before finally changing back into a gargantuan fox with a sulk.]

I totally could have swallowed it as a fish you know. Now it might be too much or too little.

[She sighs, and does her best to crouch down, open her mouth, and stick out her tongue.]

Rye au ooh ehh erheff effen.

[It was probably for the best if she couldn't make out Mirajane's comment spoken without the use of her tongue. "Try not to get yourself eaten." was not exactly the most encouraging advice.]

I can always do it unless of course, you have someone else in mind.

[Fai had reasons to go to Fayren and the forest in particular anyway.]

[The bird seems to sigh in relief... if birds are even capable of sighing.]

I would be very grateful if you'd bring me some. No one else has brought me any yet and I do still need the help.

Of course. Is there any type of cake in particular?

A sweet strawberry cheesecake with a heavenly whipped frosting would make me very happy. Any cake should suffice though... I think.

[Actually wasn't the cake Erza was eating a strawberry cheesecake?]

If you can get me the strawberry cheesecake, that would probably be the safest bet.

[Then she could share any leftovers with Erza once this madness ended... or just outside of Fayren.]

I think I can deliver a strawberry cheesecake or two.

[He made them himself at the cafe anyway, even at the Fayren one.]

Might take me a while but I will get there.

[ She's not sure if this person is normally a bird, or if it's another effect of the madness in Fayren. ]

... How much cake do you think you'll need?

Too much might make you too small.

Too little might not help much.

[The girl turned bird taps her beak with one of her talons, pondering the question for a moment or two.]

Better make it a very large cake... I have a sufficient quantity of things that can make me larger but I didn't think to bring any cake with me.

... You did this on purpose?

[ She doesn't sound surprised, or incredulous. Or, anything, really. ]

[If it's possible, the bird seems to be blushing slightly.]

N-Not exactly... I've seen a friend who turned smaller thanks to a cake, so I know it's possible to turn smaller with it. It wasn't until after I'd become giant beyond the point of safety that I realized I should have brought some cake with me. I didn't think it was possible for a human being to turn as big as I did!

... I wouldn't have thought that was possible either.

Or for a human to look like a bird.

[ But this is Genessia. So, take it in stride, or go crazy? Dorothy picks the first option. ]

Well I'm actually a mage you see, a bird is just one of the many things I can transform myself into.

[As if to prove her point, Mirajane turns herself into a slightly smaller fish, only about the size of a small house. Of course she can't breathe on land for very long in this form, so that was why she hadn't chosen it in the first place.]

[ Genessia. Only explanation which really works, consistently. Because she'd never seen anything like this before, or heard of a mage before. It was ridiculous, but it was real. ]

... I can find you a lot of cake. You will be easy to spot, in the forest, at your current size.

If it'll help I can use this form to tower over the trees so you can easily spot me for a bit.

[She shifted into the form of a snake, the size of which did make her tower over the treeline, but it was nothing but a small little garden snake at its normal size.]

Just let me know when you're here so I can shrink back down to a manageable size for cake.

[Why yes, the giant bird did just kya like a girl. Not one of Mirajane's proudest moments, but if you were pounced by a random guy out of nowhere you might be alarmed too!]

G-Get off meeee!

[Well Mira wasn't about to be mistaken for food, so when Ace pounced her, she went from being a very large bird, to an even larger...]

[Snake.]

Ssss! Don't make me hurt you!

[Actually if she wanted to hurt him, she'd just switch back to her human form and probably crush him because it was so freakishly large, but at the moment she's trying to stick to her smaller animal transformations. While this snake might seem comparable to Nola the snake from sky island, this was actually one of her smallest snake forms... though quite venomous.]

Woah! Cool! Mystery food! [that squeals like a girl! The size change is unexpected so he has to cling to with arms and legs but then] You're not poisonous are you? [takes an experimental lick]

[Did.. did he just lick her!?! It was hard to tell because he was so small now, but she's PRETTY sure he did. Safety be damned, he'd REALLY managed to get her angry with his recklessness when she was already having a bad day.

Her form shifted one more time, this time into one of her demon forms, several miles high thanks to the effects of the mushrooms. She stood towering above him, the area still flattened from her earlier transformation to this size, but now Ace was probably clinging to her boot and feeling a slight tingling sensation from the dark eldritch magics that started to build up as she was getting ready to rather violently remove him from herself.]

I said get off.

[Even for her larger size her voice was much deeper and menacing, perhaps having a slight bit of battle aura to it that even Ace should be able to feel. Whether or not he heeded her warnings was another matter. Though a part of her absently wondered if any of the citizens of Fayren were panicking at the gigantic winged demon standing in the forest, close enough to the town that if she spun around she'd likely be able to tail whip several buildings over.]

Woah. [falls on his back ...well kind of on her shoe, too and stares up at her]

[stare stare] Are you some weird kind of zoan giant?

[She shifts herself back into the bird form, shrinking back down and letting Ace fall off her boot onto the ground rather unceremoniously.]

Not exactly.

[She sighed and looked closely at the strange orange hatted little man.]

My name is Mirajane, and I'm a bartender at the Fairy Tail mage guild. The magic I specialize in is transformation magic, where I can change my body into any kind of person, animal, or monster, though mastering their exact appearance or abilities... that requires quite a bit more magical power, practice and skill.

Oh so you're a mystery bird. [makes sense] Can you change into anything?

[Did the bird just have a giant sweat drop of exasperation? Yup.]

Uh... More or less. It usually helps if I've at least had the chance to get a good look at what I want to transform into in person. A photo isn't going to cut it.

Oh yeah? [in that case! He turns away and starts scribbling. Then he turns around] Do this!

Well... okay but remember, you did ask for it.

[And Mirajane then shifts into... a gigantic sheet of paper that has Ace's doodle scribbled on it, except the doodle then speaks.]

Tweet, Tweet, Yoi. I love seeds, and chainsaws, and Ace, and my bruthers.

[All of this is said with a sort of weird muppety sounding voice... and this was probably the worst transformation Mirajane had ever attempted in her life, but anything for a ~~good~~ dumb practical joke.]

[Mavis loves walking in the forest, especially on sunny days. Upon hearing the crash, she starts running towards the site of impact.

She stops a reasonable amount of feet away from the giant bird, looking up at it, her lips curving into a silent "Oooh". And then, she hears the bird talk.]

Mira? ...Mira, is that you?

What happened?

[Whelp, Mira's just going to squawk when Mavis calls out to her, taken by surprise that the first master had found her so quickly... and in such an embarrassing state.]

Ah... master Mavis?

[What should she say?!]

This... isn't what it looks like!

[Actually... what did it even look like? Why was she so embarrassed?]

You see... I sort of was eating some mushrooms and I grew gigantic... so I tried transforming into one of my smaller forms so I'd be less cumbersome but... even one of my smallest forms is still a bit too large. Just... not several miles tall.

Mushrooms?

[Mavis doesn't notice how embarrassed Mirajane looks. This is a new piece of the puzzle.]

So cakes make people shrink, and mushroom make them grow gigantic. Interesting...

I still have a bit of Erza's cake. Which ones were the mushrooms you ate? These ones?

Yes... Erza and I had been doing a bit of experimenting in that regard.

[It was fun to tease Erza, but she was sort of glad Erza wasn't the one who found her like this, because then the mage could have all the payback.]

Almost any mushrooms will do it I think. I just didn't think to bring enough cake with me, because when I grew larger I sort of... dropped what I had.

[She'd told everyone else she simply hadn't brought any with her, but she figured she could trust Mavis with that little detail.]
