[Video] After Ted's log...

Well. Earlier this month, I had my hatchday. Not that I did anything special for it. There wasn't anything to do, really. Not in this world.

In the next order of business, a small group and I have defeated a pair of undead wyverns. That particular situation was of a personal interest to me, because it struck closer to home than I'd like to admit. Something very similar is happening in my own world, but on a much larger scale. I refuse to allow anything like that to happen here.

And since whoever reanimated those creatures has yet to be found, it's safe to assume that we can expect to see more of them at some point. We must tackle the problem at its source. Raising the bodies of the deceased to be used as tools is one thing I will not stand for. No body or soul should be torn from death to be bound to someone else's will. For any reason. They've lived their lives. Let them rest in peace.

[The dragon lets out a deep sigh, calming himself before his rage rises.]

That's all I wanted to say.

Hatchday, that's like a b-day? Either way, congrats Qubine.

Sorry to heart the situation with the wyverns brought you back bad memories of home.

A hatchday would be the anniversary of the day a dragon hatches from their egg. That was four years ago for me.

It's more than just a memory...it's still happening. This world is far less hostile than my own, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Then yes, it sounds like a b-day. Can I ask how long your species usually live?

[Since he looks like an adult to Kay after only 4 years, and Kay is terrible at keeping up with organic’s ages.]

I see. When you mentioned 'in a much larger scale', how large is that? Are there undead dragons everywhere fighting the rest?

...No one really knows how long our species can live. Our race is still rather young, actually. As I understand it, the deities only gave birth to dragonkind just months before my own birth. So I am one of the older ones...

As for the "much larger scale," a dragon named Erebus has reanimated the dead dragons of my clan, and those were...quite many. I had hoped that they would be contained within our own lair, but I don't know if they've spread all over Sornieth, or if Erebus has reanimated more dead dragons elsewhere.

The deities are still around too? It's not very often than a race is so close to their beginning that they can remember it.

And the purpose of doing all that is to kill everyone?

The deities will always be around. I don't know much about how they came to be, but I hear the Light flight contains some sort of scattered records in the Sunbeam Ruins. Perhaps I should check it out whenever I get back...

[He lets out an exasperated sigh.]

I'm not exactly sure what Erebus is trying to accomplish. Liora is the one who's had a personal encounter with him, and according to her, he simply wants to corrupt the world with darkness. Whether we would all die as a result is a mystery. But to me, if we don't die from it, then we'll suffer a fate worse than death. So one way or another, Erebus must be stopped.

It can't hurt to check once you get back. Might bring you some insight.

Honestly, I don't understand certain individuals that are so focused on controlling and then destroying everything. Don't they realize that once you have killed everybody an everything, there's nothing to do?

"Congrats, you are now the supreme ruler of Dust and nothing. Truly an accomplishment."....nonsensical.

Indeed. I don't see what he plans to gain out of this either. Perhaps someone can talk some sense into him...although it probably won't be me.

[He'd rather just kill him instead.]

Talking to him alone seems inadvisable. Some people just can't be reasoned with. The emperor in my world is like that.

Perhaps. It may depend on who is doing the reasoning. But like you said, some people just can't be reasoned with. But I believe I know who would have the best chance...

And who is that person? Er...dragon?

It would likely be Liora. She's less combat-inclined, and Erebus seems...interested in her.

[Though he has no idea what kind of "interest".]

[Kay tilts his head at the 'interested' part. He can imagine where things are going.]

Hm. In that case it would be a good idea if she doesn't go talk to him alone, even if you don't speak to the other dragon.

She does have her team. But they all need to become a lot stronger, in case things do go downhill...

You could always teach them to fight better.

[A light scoff.]

Easy to say. But trust me, they have been training.

Are they really that bad then? I never saw a dragon fight so I can't really tell what's the right way for them to do it.

How they fight would depend on many things, such as their breed or their element. Liora is a Fae dragon, so she would be more of a caster than a fighter. Element-wise, she and her partners are the most well-rounded team.

However, Erebus is powerful by himself, as even the stronger dragons of my clan reported having trouble with him.

What bred is Erebus? You can always join all clan against him, he's a common enemy. I am aware its' easier said that done but when the situation is desperate enough...

Erebus is a Nocturne dragon. Uniting the clan against him would be the ideal solution, if I can just find them. The clan was scattered in the chaos when he attacked our lair, so I don't even know how many of them survived. I only know that my mate is safe, because I focused on protecting her...and Liora is safe, because she's stuck here in Genessia as well.

I wish you the best luck finding them once you get back. I know how it is to be worried abotu your team's fate.

Second of all... reanimated? You mean like the living dead kind of thing? [Someone has been reading since she arrived here new books... Horror ones included.]

Well...thank you. [He isn't entirely sure what to say on that himself. He wasn't expecting a belated hatchday wish...]

Living dead...well, they aren't exactly living. Just dead bodies that are just mere shells of who or what they once were, being forced to move by magic or some other means. They can either be directly controlled by the one who raised them, or just sent to run wild, attacking anything in their path. The latter seems to be the cases that I've witnessed.

That is pretty scary as you talk about it. Letting them run wild. I mean if they are shells of who they are what could they do?

I would imagine that they could do anything. They just don't have any control over themselves like they would if they had their souls and their consciences.

But even with souls and consciences people still do terrible things, so... [She pauses to think about this now because what was the point she was slowly starting to think about.]

It's still terrible, but I guess having a soul doesn't really make that much of a difference. Only for those who did care about not doing terrible things. That's the most terrible.

[He blinks at her, not entirely sure how to respond. What is her point?]

I suppose when one being is in control of another, having a soul doesn't make much of a difference.

Though the more I think of it. You said before they were just shells of who they once were. They, in reality, aren't really controlling a person against their will. Just an empty shell with nothing there.

If a person uses it for a good purpose is there really anything wrong with that? So while we talk about souls... I realized really the dead don't have those. The souls of the people are in fact still resting.

While that is technically true, there is just that sickening feeling that comes with watching the remains of someone you care about shambling about. I, for one, am not happy with seeing my sons in that condition, looking like they're eternally sick. That can't be healthy. My sons are dead, and even though I wish they weren't, I don't wish for them to come back either, even if they could be themselves again. Even if they could come back, it won't change the fact that they died in the first place. Honestly, I don't think it's a feeling one can truly understand unless they've experienced it themselves.

Speaking of healthy, since we are talking about decaying bodies, there are also infections waiting to happen.

I honestly very much doubt I will ever experience it on a personal level so we might ever really agree on every single point. But I can at least try and understand both sides of it rather than just the one.

So I might go back to everglade to speak to a few people.

No one can agree on every single thing. It's why I stopped arguing with Weiss on the matter, and more or less "agreed to disagree". Though I am thoroughly puzzled on why saving lives is so important to her if she can so easily discard the memories of the departed.

[A beat as a possibility comes to him.]

Everglade is...different. The dead...or undead...whatever you want to call them, are different from the shambling corpses. They have their own wills...most of the ones I've seen, anyway. Whether they have souls or not, I can't even guess.

I think that would depend on her reasonings. I don't know so I really don't have a right to say or try to understand right now personally.

[She shrugged slightly, she didn't honestly know.]

I wouldn't know. With Everglade even if they are a different kind of undead, it's still in a way the same thing. They are still the undead. That's why I want to talk to them.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you're anti-necromancy then.

...Considering that necromancy was used to turn my sons and the other dead dragons of my clan into vicious undead puppets, you'll forgive me if I do have particularly strong feelings on the subject.

[So Qubine might have a bit of a bias himself, but there is that other reason he explained in his initial announcement that has nothing to do with his own experience.]

And fire can be used to commit arson, and swords can be used to stab innocent people. Something existing doesn't immediately mean it's going to be used for evil just because you've had a bad experience.

[He sighs. He's heard that argument before, and he's tired of it.]

Disregarding my own experience, it's a simple matter of respect. Dead bodies are not meant to be used as swords, or fire, or any other kind of weapon. It's incredibly disrespectful to the beings who once lived in those bodies. Just because they're dead doesn't give anyone else a right to own them.

Fire doesn't exist to commit arson but it still happens, and it can just as easily be used to keep someone warm or provide light. Don't just ignore the part of the argument that doesn't suit you. Dead bodies aren't meant to do anything but decay because there's nothing in them anymore. It's not disrespectful to the dead, it's disrespectful to you. Don't try and claim it's about their feelings. If I kill something it will come to my side and fight for me whether I choose it to or not if I'm scared and unable to control my abilities. While I can do it on purpose and am in control of it now, the fact remains that it's an ability that's created from my soul, and you're sitting her telling me that the way I was born is inherently evil so you'll have to excuse me if I disagree with your short-sighted "disrespect." The dead can't be permanently killed again and they can be used to protect people who still have a chance at life. I hardly see how something like saving lives could be evil just because someone else chose to use the ability in a bad way.

[What a shame, Weiss. He was liking you, too, up until this point.]

I never said it was evil. I said it was disrespectful, both to us, and to the deceased. So you're telling me that you'd have no issue if your enemies killed you and then used you to fight for them?

[She'd better consider herself fortunate that Qubine doesn't know about Battler, because he wouldn't hesitate to use him as an example.]

Fire is one of nature's elements. It can easily destroy us, yes, but we cannot survive without it either. Necromancy is a craft that we're more than capable of doing without. After all, my clan did not become strong by using the dead to fight our battles for us.

All of my abilities would be linked to my soul, and again- if it's someone who's using it for a good cause, yes. That would be fine. My whole point is that not everyone who uses it is using it for bad unless you've just decided to ignore my entire point.

It's not a craft [ there's nothing being made, it's just reusing what's already there ] and just because your clan doesn't do something doesn't mean it's unacceptable.

I get your point. [Albeit begrudgingly.] You've made it quite clear that my experience doesn't mean a thing to you or anyone else. However, as much as I hate it, it's not my right to decide how anyone uses their abilities either. There is also Everglade. [Full of walking dead things, but they are a special case. Many of them seem to have wills of their own.]

As long as the dead doesn't cause chaos, I won't let it concern me. But rest assured, once I return to Sornieth, I intend to free my sons and the rest of the fallen from the curse of being Erebus's undead puppets. It's the least I can do for them after they've lived and died for the sake of their clan.

...Is that a fair compromise?

I'm not really sure it's a compromise since what you do in Sornieth doesn't affect me at all and I'd always be in favor of fighting for freedom and protecting people. But I appreciate you conceding that the practice isn't bad by nature and you have no right to dictate how people use the abilities that are a part of them.

It's true, what happens in Sornieth shouldn't concern you. But for a moment, it almost sounded like you were implying that because necromancy can be used for good, that I'm wrong to despise it when I have more than enough reason to. But that might have been me getting worked up. Honestly, there's nothing that's going to make me like it. I hope you can respect that much at least. However, if you truly feel that you could use it for good, then by all means, do it.

No, you're wrong to make public posts talking about how it should never happen and essentially publicly shaming anyone who uses it.

[He still doesn't think it should ever happen, but he doesn't want to get back into it. This is about as much of a peaceful resolution as they're going to get. To that end, he'll have to go along with it.]
