[The recording is a bit of muffled static at first as she has to move her hand to hold the device better.]
Whoever you are, you'd better be ready for a fight. I'm not going down that easy. You can't just kidnap me and get away with it.
[There's a splash as she jumps from the pod into the water.]

Re: [Video]
[The only thing Ted tests about little girls is their vocabulary, apparently. He makes a note to dial it down.]
Oh, aheh, that's a good name.
[It earned a mild chuckle for meaning "sweet" and "gentle"; traits she wasn't keen on displaying just yet.]
Ah, well, by that I mean the world doesn't mean you harm, exactly. It's, um...needy, in a way, but not violently so. How old are you, Clementine?
[She wouldn't know the meaning, if she ever did.]
That doesn't explain anything. [She frowns, pressing her lips together.] Old enough to look after myself.
[He'd better not underestimate her, or try anything.]
Re: [Video]
[Just a name!? Deep breaths, Ted. He'll refrain on the importance of onomastics. For now.]
Oh, well I can offer an explanation, of sorts. If you like; I'm afraid it won't be especially useful. All I know for certain is that the world isn't looking to pick fights, upsetting as the circumstances are.
Aheh, well how old is that? I ask because there's a children's home we've got to accommodate the younger arrivals. I wouldn't mind escorting you there.
[Ted would wager that 9/10's of the children brought to Genessia are precocious; it's been a long while since he's seen a truly childish child.]
[She shakes her head a little.]
I don't need that, I don't need a babysitter. I take care of myself and AJ. I'm thirteen. That's old enough.
Re: [Video]
[He looks contemplative]
I suppose that's true, in a way. The struggle everything has with the universe, and all that.
Oh, erm, do you mean you don't need the escort or don't need the home? Or both? Well, it's not about, erm, needing it, exactly. But it's a nice enough place, especially if you enjoy the company of those your own age.
[He'll kindly leave out the fact that the supervision there is next to nothing.]
[She just has to find a job to keep food in her mouth, or she'll starve, but she can manage either way.]
Re: [Video]
...Was AJ someone older, then?
[He assumed it was a kid, cause...well, "AJ". It simply sounds youthful.]
[She looks sad, but also angry.]
Re: [Video]
[Ooh, wrong both counts. His expression fills with alarm.]
Goodness! And I...suppose you were the only one, then.
[Something tells him she was all AJ had.]
Well, er, don't worry. You haven't been absconded from his rescue, by any means. The leading theory is that your own world is, erm, paused, and that it's like you never left.
[When he has even a little anxiety, his motor mouth picks up speed. Hopefully she finds that comforting.]
[Well not exactly, but she won't clarify unless she has to.]
It's not like that. The New Frontier took him from me, to punish me. They're assholes.
[At least that's a relief. She can't leave AJ for too long, she's already missed too much.]
Re: [Video]
They, er, certainly sound unpleasant. I hope they were responsible, at least.
[Ted's been down this road too many times; asking questions about unfolding, tragic backstories until they're more depressed than when they began.]
Er-, it's all right. Don't feel compelled to confide your misfortunes if you'd rather not. Only if it brings some comfort, somehow.
There's not much to say. Everything ends the same way. People die.
Re: [Video]
That's...technically true, I suppose.
[Way to put the child on the optimism bandwagon, Ted. Quick: damage control!]
But while we're alive, might you take a look at the Children's Home anyway? If only for my own peace of mind. I think you'll like it there. It won't cost you anything but a twenty minute's walk.
no subject
[Because that's what it sounds like Ted, and she's been alone more than enough time to not need help.]
no subject
[He doubts he can convince a child that the world has threats unlike what she's used to. Maybe...]
Sheer necessity isn't the thing, though. Besides; have you considered the possibility that there may be children there who might need you? Now or in the future.

They'll figure it out, or they'll end up in the ground.
[She disconnects the conversation, there's no chance she's going to some kid's home.]
