He wouldn't have been taken by surprise by the hulking, two-legged werewolves when his feet hit the concrete outside the Bay if his senses weren't accosted by so many unfamiliar scents. It hadn't taken a pamphlet to convince the lythe auburn-haired young man he'd been taken very far from home. He'd left his club, fully anticipating the scent of the northern Pacific Ocean to fill his heightened sense of smell, but had instead been overcome by a strange fatigue.

He'd awoken in a coffin surrounded by water that smelled strangely chemical. He'd glanced over the pamphlet but other strange smells had drawn him curiously to the surface. The snarling animal slammed into him as soon as the street lamps on the street level filled his too-sensitive brown eyes with their stinging, momentary blindness, and the beast's momentum caught him at a bad angle, sending them both tumbling to the ground. Survival instincts kicked in and Luther rolled back to his feet faster than a human eye could track, dilated pupils causing his brown eyes to appear black in the light overhead. His lips curled back from slightly curved fangs in a hissing snarl. The werewolf was back on its feet too, growling menacingly before launching at him again, but this time Luther was ready, easily side-stepping the wolf before looking around for some sort of weapon. It looked like something out of a horror movie (a bad one) but that didn't mean Luther wanted to risk hurting the thing. Who knew what might be going on with the beast.

Instead, he ran as the werewolf attempted to right itself (vampires were exceptionally good at running, and a few blocks down jumped to the third story fire escape of the nearest building, paying no mind to who might be in there, or whether it was a business or an apartment. He just needed to put some distance between whatever was prowling the streets and himself until he could sort things out.

(OOC: If you'd like to action, I'm down with you stepping in at any point in that little exchange, including he invaded your apartment/home :) I'm down with prose or bracket spam!)

[The young man, clean cut and cleaned up a bit from his rough introduction to the city, seems a lot calmer and completely normal when the video feed initializes. There's a cool charisma to his words when he speaks, even if the topic seems a little strange.]

Hello, everyone! Sorry for the late hour, but this place doesn't seem to run on a schedule. Your welcome committee could use better manners, by the way.

[And he assumes you all know what he's referring to.]

Now, I vaguely remember some sort of recorded message talking about Genessia, giving directions, and being altogether welcoming, and cute, but I was a little busy running from a rabid werewolf to pay complete attention. I'd really appreciate a fill-in.

[He pauses briefly, smiles, and makes a little wave with his free hand.] I'm Luther, by the way. I hope we can all get along.

--Oh, and it's usually not this chaotic here. Things always get a little wild around Halloween, it's practically a tradition at this point. Uh...important things to note?

[She counts out on her fingertips.]

Main city has monsters that come out only at night. They can't get into buildings, so if you stay indoors after sundown, you should be fine. Avoid Attleton unless you want to come face to face with your worst fear. Not kidding, it's brutal. Nova City turned people into monsters on the first day, but nothing weird happens to you now. Most everyone it happened to is keeping their sanity from what I've seen, so it's not too bad. Fayren will stuff you into a random costume if you go there. Not too bad, unless you're one of the unlucky ones who starts believing you really are your costume. And Everglade's made of candy! ...Still not a fun place to visit, though.

I'm not sure when things are due to go back to normal, but this sort of stuff seldom lasts all that long. Just hang in there!

[He raises an eyebrow. Was it October around here? That was...good to know. It explained the coolness in the air, too.]

Halloween, huh? So they decided to throw horror movie rejects at people? [Who were 'they' anyway?] It sounds like you take pretty good notes. I like that in a woman.

[He looks thoughtful for a moment before the question formulates fully.] Okay. So, 'this sort of stuff seldom lasts for long', but how often does it happen?

[She raises an eyebrow, definitely amused. Well, at least he can keep a sense of humor after getting dumped into a brand new world.]

I'm not really sure. Seems like maybe once a month or every two months? Depends on the season. All I can say is that it's really hard to get bored here.

[Luther smirks slightly at that. He wasn't completely serious, play flirted was more simple than the alternative: freaking out majorly.]

Maybe, but only if they're detailed. Shorthand's really selfish.

Every month or two? That sounds pretty tiring. I hope they have good "movie monster mayhem" insurance around here or repairs must be killer.

Weird as it sounds, the city seems to have no problem fixing itself. If you look closely, you'll notice that none of the buildings in the main city are even damaged, no matter what's climbing all over them.

I mean, don't go sticking your head out a window, but you can look outside. Where are you?

[He hadn't actually taken the time to notice, but he'd been running for his life (or at least the preservation of his being in one piece) at the time.]

Well, that's useful. Is it some kind of magic, then? [And he looks thoughtful for a moment.] Does it repair all kinds of damage?

[He glances toward the window, which is in half-view behind him. Or at least, that's where the window typically is in the free provided housing, but instead of a window, there are several sheets of opaque lawn garbage bags taped to the wall with silver duct tape.]

Our free room and board, because that's not creepy or suspicious at all. [And he looks back to the camera.] I don't mix well with windows.

[She could tell him to call Mercury, since he's pretty good with windows, but she's pretty sure he can get the same results from the building's maintenance.]

Magic... I guess? I don't really know what it is, truth be told, I've just seen it happen a few times. I get a little rough in my fights.

[Yang grins with a shrug.]

I know it seems pretty creepy at first, but the place has a way of growing on you in a weird way. Give it some time. You'll be fine.

[Her voice rings clearly through the phone despite the flurry of movement around her. Enis isn't to far from where Luther had run though she is currently preoccupied with the small collection of zombies that she has gotten to follow her. The phone flashes at her waist and then at her shoulder as she tilts it up. Enis had been too busy to change the phone to voice and simply hit reply to the familiar timber that echoed through the phone. She knows him though not personally. He's just another person from her world, someone who she's watched since her escape.]

You can ask questions but get to your assigned housing first. These creatures cannot walk through doorways.

[He's already been told that this isn't a usual occurrence so Enis doesn't bother to fill him in about that part. Nor does she offer assistance because she doesn't think he would need it. Luther appears very good at running.

Enis's gun runs out of ammo, which has happened a lot the last few nights, she reaches for a short sword at her side and systematically cuts through a few of the zombie like creatures in front of her. She'll probably have to light them on fire, she isn't looking forward to the smell.

Vibrant eyes turn towards the screen to finally take a look at Luther.] The other cities are experiencing different events. All somehow connected to Halloween. Fear, monsters, costumes taking people over. [She shrugs at the end of her list.] etc. Genessia isn't safe at night but it might be a better alternative.

[The cameras attached to the phones aren't good enough to afford his quick gaze a clear view of the woman on the screen, but that doesn't stop him from trying. A flash of those ice-blue eyes caught his attention though, and her tone...so calm to spite...whatever it was she was fighting. She had a weapon, too. That looked promising. He could probably dispatch most of the creatures roaming the streets at night, but he didn't like the idea of getting covered in unknown blood. As impossible as it seemed, this was not Earth, and he'd been burned by weird blood before. He wasn't playing that game on an unknown planet.]

I can handle unsafe. [Seeing as not traveling at night wasn't an option.] Where'd you get the sword?

[Enis takes a step back, pausing to look at the screen more fully.]

There are a lot of places to buy weapons. This one came from Fayren. [She had had it made for her.]

[He rolls a shoulder in a shrug and as he does so, the phone shifts, affording Enis a view of the very small personal lodgings they're all given upon arrival, though there are thick black lawn bags duct taped over the one window in the place, as seen over his shoulder. He took precautions before settling in to make a video post.]

It's far from my only question, but you seemed busy and the monsters outside are a much more immediate threat than knowing your name.

[Her chip allows her to multitask like crazy. A second later there is a lull and Enis flicks her blade down to her side.]

I'm Enis. [She doesn't expect him to know her.]

[Han didn't like being jolted awake by the sound of feet in the apartment. He assumed it was one of the monsters-they had been breaking in all over the place...even home wasn't safe anymore-and was there fairly quickly with his blaster pointed at the guy. The intruder looked human, but were those fangs? And he was definitely very wet.]

This is really getting on my nerves...kriffin' monsters all over and no place is safe. If you aren't one of them, you better speak up and fast.

[Out of the frying pan an into the fire, as they say. Luther didn't think he couldn't take the things chasing him, but until he had a firmer grasp on what they actually were he wasn't going to risk ingesting or absorbing whatever they might have. He stopped as soon as he'd heard the heartbeat and smelled the human into whose home he'd accidentally trod, meeting Han's eyes he raised his hands in surrender. He was fast, certainly, but a bullet (or whatever this thing fired) could kill a vampire as easily as it could kill a human.]

Easy. I'm not here to hurt you or...rob you or anything.

"I hope not. I'm a deputy here and I could take you in if that was the case." he said.

"The monsters?" He kept his blaster ready, but decided to at least give him a chance with what was happening outside. "Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't got in here sooner...or that more people aren't talkin' about people breakin' in to get away from them all."

[Luther thought briefly about liking to see the deputy here try, but he thought better of saying it.]

Okay, then. So, you're part of the authorities around here? Do you...have a badge or something? Anybody could say that. "I'm one of the deputies here, too. Just got hired." See?

[He smiles, and while it looks natural, you can't actually see his teeth, a practiced expression.] They didn't try to follow me in.

"Yeah, good point. We did get badges after everything was all settled." Han definitely wouldn't want deputy impersonates around, it was hard enough dealing with the bad guys who were around already. He showed the badge, hoping it'd convince the guy.

Luther, of course, doesn't know whether or not this makes this guy legit or anything, but the fact that he has a badge at least says something. The young vampire isn't necessarily certain what, but something.

"Sure, okay. So you're a cop. I'm not armed and I was recently fleeing for my self. Think you can put the gun down?"

I don't even recall a recorded message. I kinda got distracted by the trying not to be killed thing.

[So color him a bit impressed by the fact someone actually noticed when he didn't. Then again he had to run the moment he had left the Bay.]

I caught a glimpse of it before the horror movie rejects found me.

Only that the funds we're given are apparently given to us by the people who brought us here, but the message was left by other people like us. The kidnappers don't talk to us. [He scoffs.] Big surprise there.

Don't kidnappers usually talk to the people they kidnap? I mean I wonder if that means they are speaking to people we know for a prince type thing?

But I guess we do have a lot of freedom, which is strange for kidnappers to do.

Sometimes. And sometimes they get tortured, but most of the time they're used as bait for the people they're demanding a ransom from.

Yeah...it doesn't add up.
