1st Report / Video
[ There's a man in a military uniform on the screen. He's in the Commons and starting to settle in.]
Does anyone recognize this man?
[ He displays a bromide of a heavily scarred man. This shows the level of photography during his time period. He figures anyone who knows him could respond, or anyone who has ever seen First Lieutenant Tsurumi in the past.]
[ He says something in Satsuma dialect, which is quite different from other Japanese dialects.]
Please respond, if you understand this. I would like to meet others from Satsuma domain.

[How helpful!]
Anyway, I'm Ted! Welcome to Genessia. What's your name? And what interesting language is that?
Thank you, Ted.
I'm Koito.
[ He's going by his surname and not mentioning his rank.]
Satsumaben. It's a Japanese dialect.
Re: [Video]
Aha, I figured. So many Japanese come here, and I still haven't figured why. The world is very fond of that diminutive country. Speaking of diminutives, that's an interesting name you've got.
[Yes, he's whipped out a book while talking; One on onomastics he received for Christmas.]
"Little thread." You don't seem especially little or thread-like. Do you sew?
[ He's quite devoted to his superior officer.]
That's the name of a river. My name uses different kanji. Does your book include kanji?
Re: [Video]
[Now he's checking.]
Well, while I'm looking, what's the proper kanji for yours, then? It'd explain the discrepancy.
Video/ text
Ah, I can show it on this device.

Re: Video/ text
Not like English. What could be simpler?]Oh, you learn fast! I'm jealous. Well, I'll have to look into that...
[A few moments later...]
Ascending...haha, carp? There must be some profundity there. So one who goes against the current, perhaps?
Video/
There is a legend about a carp ascending to the top of a waterfall and becoming a dragon.
[ Like Magikarp turning into Gyarados.]
Re: Video/
[What can't pokemon explain?]
Oh! Yes, that rings a bell. That's supposed to symbolize excellence in civil service, if I recall. Or perhaps just a fondness for dragons. The benevolent kind, if there is such a thing; one knights aren't looking to merrily slay. I really would like to hear what makes the East so fond of them.
Video/
[ Which is rather important in an archipelago.]
Why wouldn't there be a benevolent kind?
Re: Video
Ah, well, "wisdom" wouldn't be the trait the knights knew them for. "Unwavering, limitless pride" would be more apt. They hoarded mounds of treasure, cold and hard, to sleep on, never spending any. Just amassing. Killed each other, too, when they could, for every dragon was afraid the others might pillage their hordes. Killing them was a kindness to the world. Very satanic creatures.
[Turn that frown upside down, Ted]
Which is why I'm glad you stumbled upon their better brethren. Nice to know they're not all bad.
[He still wants to swordfight one anyway though.]
Video
[ His unit is in searching for pieces of a treasure map tattooed on the bodies of escaped convicts.]
Are they real in your land?
Re: Video
I think so! In a spiritual sense, anyway. The flesh-and-blood-and-scale varieties were likely all killed off, either by themselves or gallant heroes hundreds of years ago. That or sleeping underground, perhaps. Goodness what they're up to in the East, but probably rosier things than the ones Camelot had to contend with.
Video
I've never encountered one.
Re: Video
Haha, well, nature isn't exactly moral, as I've had to learn the hard way. Hopefully you meant that in a more beatific sense.
Ah, then you're in luck! I know the names of two dragons who, somehow, can use these devices just as we can! Though I don't think they descend from any especially athletic carp. I can refer you, if you'd like.
He is calm and has his hands behind his back and stands up straight. He doesn't understand the dialect but he eyes the uniform and nods "Helghast Colonel of the 13th Regiment."
Second Lieutenant of the Imperial Japanese Army, 7th Division. Sir!
Re: [Video]
"What's your name? I'm presuming you are new around here, Second Lieutenant."
Re: [Video]
I am new here.
My name is Otonoshin Koito.
[ The Colonel gets his full name.]
Re: [Video]
If I may ask, What have you learned about this place? Beyond what that projection said.
[ The hologram was incredibly shocking to him. It's sudden appearance caused him to let out a monkeylike shriek and draw his sword.]
Re: [Video]
"However, I come from the year 2360. It's a common thing on Helghan."
Radec nodded "I've learned that Genessia's various areas have Guardians that protect that land. In fact, here.
[Radec holds a piece of paper that shows the new guardians and their views on each of the respective cities.]
"I'd be glad to show you around if you need the help, Second Lieutenant."
Is that Earth years? That's...close to 450 years after my time!
[ He gulps nervously.]
If you don't mind, sir. I'm afraid I might miss something obvious to those from later time periods.
[ He figures Lieutenant Tsurumi would want to know all about weapon advancements, and so would Lieutenant General Arisaka.]
Re: [Video]
[Yes, he was being serious.]
The Helghan Colonel nodded "I apologize in ... advance for not mentioning ahead of time I came from the far flung ... future. I'm willing to explain what things happened over time."
Video
[ There's a lot to take in for someone from the turn of the 20th century.]
I would be interested in hearing about the future, sir.
Re: Video
"Ah yes, the Helghast people of the 23rd centery."
From our history books, it's been said that our forefathers before us were forced in exile to Helghan, our planet where it changed our very physiology of our bodies. Yet from the ashes, our charismatic leader, Scholar Visari built our race back up against the Earth and ISA, bringing back our pride even with our new breathing masks.
This is the third world war. There were two extrasolar wars over time. One where we went into Vekta and they invaded us.
I can't say I have. Sorry~
[She shrugs.]
You're a soldier? Or do you just like wearing the uniform for attention?
I expected that.
[ That question is a bit offensive and ridiculous.]
I'm a soldier. I apologise for not yet obtaining civilian garb.
It's fine.
[Mira waves her hand, it's not like she expected any sort of apology.]
You're probably more warmly dressed for the season that way anyway.
Re: [Video]
I was stationed in Hokkaido. I've had to adjust to cold weather.
[Mira's never been there personally, but she's smarter than she probably looks. She at least knows the name enough to recognize it.]
Is it usually snowy up there?
There's quite a noticeable difference between the northern and southern regions of Japan.
How long have you been staying here?
[ He doesn't sound happy about the prospect of spending a significant amount of time without First Lieutenant Tsurumi.]
What's his name?
((ooc: Tsurumi's first name has not been revealed in canon))
Welcome to Genessia. My name is Mavis Vermillion.
My name is Otonoshin Koito.
[ She gave her first name, he'll give his.]
Yes. At least in my home...world?
[ The last word is in a questioning tone because the concept of meeting people from different worlds is new to him.]
No... I haven't seen him, sorry. That's a sharp uniform though!
Thank you. I'm quite fond of it.
*There's some pride in being part of the 7th Division and working under First Lieutenant Tsurumi.*
[Video]
But... if I do see anyone with that uniform then I know who he belongs to.
This is the regiment First Lieutenant Tsurumi commands.
There are plenty of units in the Imperial Japanese Army with similar uniforms.
It seems like this place brings over plenty of people from different militaries.
Hmm. So I see... How interesting. Well - I bet we can learn a whole load of stuff from each other. That's pretty great!
I'm sure we can!
*There could also be a lot of conflict, which he also looks forward too, though he doesn't say that out loud. Even if she's a soldier, she's being nice.*
What can you tell me about your world, and how you adapted to this one?
My world... Well. My world was similar to here, but different in some ways too. There was a lot of war going on. And a lot of fighring, which I really haven't had to do since I got here. There was much more magic, too! I haven't seen a lot of it since I got here. Mostly - well, I knew someone here already. From yet another universe. Isn't that crazy?
It's relatively peaceful here?
How could you know someone from a different universe? It's more confusing than crazy.
*Her cheeks puff up at his last question, managing to take it personally somehow*
Well, I dunno. How can we even all be here in the first place? Some sorta time and space magic or manipulation or something. I sure have no idea.
