I CAN HEAL!

[The video begins with that very abrupt declaration from Orihime, her fists raised, brow furrowed, cheeks flushed. It's only abrupt because there were so many previous false starts before pushing record, and every time she practiced prior to this, she got too flustered to say the right words.]

[Best to just put it out there, and let the rest fall into place.]

[Now that she's said it, she takes a deep breath, lets her hands fall into her lap where they're clasped tightly together, and she grins sheepishly.]

I hope that wasn't too loud. I'm not really used to admitting it, since it's kind of a secret back home. But it's one of the things I can do, and I thought, 'Oh, that would be good for people to know in case of an emergency.' And you don't have to be human or organic for it to work, since it's not...technically...healing. It's more like...

[She hesitates, and her shoulders grow tense.]

It's...well...how do I put it...it's like rejecting the event that caused the injury in the first place, so it doesn't leave scars, or stains. So...even if your leg gets chopped off, or you get completely blown away, I can fix it if I can get to you before your body disappears. I haven't really found my limits yet, to be honest.

[She's slowly been shrinking in on herself. Then she suddenly sits up straight and waves her hands frantically.]

But I promise I'm not a monster or a god or anything like that! And I won't get rid of any injuries or scars you want to keep!

[Orihime was listening at the debates. She'd never even thought of a scar being like a memory, so now she knows better.]

Just...just please keep it in mind. I'm a volunteer with Heals on Wheels, and though I'm not really sure what we're supposed to do since I joined, I'm very much on call at any time you need me.

[Her head bobs, and for a moment she looks like she's going to keep talking. But she realizes she can't think of anything more to say. So she bobs her head again.]

That's it. I hope you had a good holiday!

[She leans forward and reaches for the 'off' switch. Aaaaaaaand she's gone!]

[Oh, so that's the girl that's on her roster! Things had been so hectic and she'd only just found out that she had inherited the Heels on Wheels Business as well, so she hadn't had a chance to track her down yet. Orihime might have switched off her video feed, but Colette's going to start one of her own for her.]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Inoue! My name's Colette. I'm in charge of Heals on Wheels and thought that it might be nice for us to meet and get to know each other a bit, maybe learn what we each can do and talk about what we should do when trouble comes again. What do you say?

Oooh! I can heal too!

I joined Heals on Wheels a while ago. I knew the girl that founded it. She's not around anymore...

[ Konoka trailed off for a moment, but to prevent looking sad, she immediately shook it off. ]

I'm glad, though. I always wanted to know more healers and the arts that they use.

So... You can RESET for an individual person?

Oh! Oh! I was wondering who it could be, thank you for letting me know!

[Ahhhhh Colette is so nice!]

Yes please, I'd love that. And your hair is really amazing! You must take really good care of it.

Do you want to meet at Cake Town? We can eat free dessert for our meeting.

[Orihime is very belatedly realizing they never exchanged names. ...Oops.]

Orihime Inoue, nice to meet you again! I thought I was the only person on the roster for a while, ha ha!

I guess it's not really an 'art.' It's an ability in my soul that just woke up one day when I was very desperate. But I honestly don't know too much about it.

Er... I'm not really sure what you mean. Maybe!

[She assumes she's talking with one of the robot citizens, like Kunzite, just because it kind of sounds like something a robot might say.]

How do you define 'reset'?

It's like, turning back time to before stuff happened.

Only it effects the whole world instead of just one person, that's what I mean.

Oh, I see!

[She touches her chin thoughtfully.]

...Only physically, I guess. Technically the event did happen, and it'll be remembered, but the effects are rejected. Like if someone got shot through the shoulder!

[Orihime dramatically holds out one arm and points at her shoulder.]

Ordinarily there would be a hole in the shirt and the body too, and there would probably be a lot of blood. But my ability wouldn't just repair the body; the shirt would be back to normal, and the blood would vanish without a trace. The person still remembers getting shot, but there's no scar and their clothes are fine.

[Colette touches her hair absentmindedly. She's never been complimented on her hair before]

Oh, thank you! I don't do anything special to it, though. Yours is much nicer!

That would be great! I've been wanting to go there - the stuff looks amazing! But it will be my treat - employees shouldn't have to pay or business meetings!

[Because that's how they'd be free for Colette, right? Orihime was planning on paying.]

Yeah, I do!

[ Konoka beams brightly, happy that she remembered. ]

Oh, it isn't?

Hmmm, I'd like to see it in action one day! It might help you learn more about it, even if it's just the limits of those powers.

Ah, I'm Konoka Konoe! Nice to meet you again as well!

Ah ha ha, you really think so? I'm secretly proud of it.

[After all, the length of her hair is symbolic of her trust and friendship with someone very important back home, and her brother liked the color. It's her one true vanity.]

[But the real pride shines through when Colette openly praises the bakery.]

It is! Everyone works really hard there, and the love they put into the baking comes out in the flavors. Anyway, it's on the house, I won't accept payment! It's my right as a co-owner, ne?

Well...

[She looks toward her window thoughtfully.]

I usually stop by the hospital after my shift to help out with the more serious cases.

[And the not-so-serious ones too, she can't help herself.]

I could let you know the next time I go, if that works? Or if there's someone in Everglade that needs help, I could go there too.

Huh, that helps, cause it's different then.

But I get what you mean, you remove the effect while everyone remembers the cause. RESETing removes both the cause and effect and only the person who did the RESET remembers it, most of the time.

I thought maybe yours was the same thing, since you mentioned it's a thing to do with your SOUL.

[hey.... hi.... they haven't talked since the auction... so...]

....Just be careful with who wants your powers.

[that's it that's all.]

Yeah...I thought about that. I really did.

[Her expression is a lot more sober, because she knows being flippant about it isn't going to ease his worries at all.]

But in the end, it wasn't my powers Aizen wanted after all. I was just bait. That's all. And there's no point in stealing what I'm giving away for free, especially where death is so temporary.

So I think it's going to be okay.

[She hasn't mentioned the auction. She's been waiting for him to do it, as she's not really sure he wanted a date so much as he wanted to protect her from dating someone who'd be really bad at it. Or something like that. It's Ishida-kun, after all, and she already knows he has a crush on Rukia.]

Mm.

[he nodded, agreeing with her words. she really was bait after all, he never needed to use her for anything.]

As long as you're sure.

[he pushed up his glasses, feeling rather... awkward....]

Inoue-san about the... um... [about the date auction. he just sighed a little.] About the auction. I'm sorry if I got a little... heated, about it.

Wow! That would be amazing! No, I definitely don't have any abilities that powerful!

[Well, she kind of does, she just doesn't have the heart to use them in such a hopelessly ruinous sort of way that really would make her a monster.]

You know someone like that?

[She still feels pretty rotten about the role she wound up playing, but considering how horribly her friends all suffered against their opponents, she is NOT going to complain. Ishida got his guts crushed with a creepy voodoo doll!]

I'm sure.

[NOW it's okay for her to smile. She's about to ask if he had a good Christmas and what he received from Santa, but hey, he brought up the auction after all!]

Hm?

[He's apologizing? Her cheerful grin softens, and she shakes her head.]

Mmm. It's okay. You thought I got signed up against my will, and were trying to protect me, ne? There's nothing to be sorry about! It was really nice of you.

Uh... Miss?

Does this mean you could reverse brain damage? Does it matter how long ago the injury occurred?

First Lieutenant Tsurumi, he isn't here now, he was severely wounded during the Battle of Mudken, and...

[ He displays a bromide of a heavily scarred man with a metal plate on his head. He switches to Satsuma dialect to describe the gory details of the injury and how it has effected his beloved superior officer. He doesn't realize that he's switched languages. When he's worked up he ends up rapidly speaking his native dialect.]

Ah.

I usually get called in by acquaintances to help people out. Everglade has its share of incidences that I heal for as well.

It is pretty amazing, yeah.

[Chara does, and has used their powers to such extremes. Because they're a shit.]

And yeah I do know someone like that. I'm someone like that.

[She holds her fists close to her chin, completely dazzled.]

Amazing! And you can do that here too? It's no wonder you're staying anonymous, you definitely don't want the wrong kind of people learning about something like that!

I've done it once here, and that was just because I didn't want to die.

[A half-truth, since they did it after poking the wrong hornet's nest.]

Even if the wrong kind of people learn about it, it's not like they'd be able to use it for themselves.

Y-yeah...

[okay, that was part of it, but then it suddenly got out of hand once he realized that someone else had been bidding on her. but hey, he did want to go out on a date with her, maybe, he just didn't know how to even bring up the topic.

this was hard, seriously, he would rather be fighting aizen right now.]

But maybe we should go on a friend-date. Yeah? I mean. It would look weird if we... didn't... especially after the auction and all...

[okay, weird way of putting it, he knows. but he's trying! a friend-date would be okay, right?]

[He really wants to? She blinks at him for a few moments. He's calling it a friend-date. She hasn't even heard of such a possibility before, but she's definitely curious about it. As a bonus, by not calling it a real date, she has no reason to blush or get nervous about any of it.]

That sounds fun! What's a friend-date? How should I prepare?
