[The first thing Rey did was make certain she still had all her belongings. She had her staff, the sacred Jedi texts, her bag, a few stale rations sunk to the bottom--and the hilt of the Skywalker lightsaber, severed in half.

She kept that well buried.

It didn't take her long to figure out how her newfound device worked, and she switched on the video feed, squinting skeptically into the camera.]

This doesn't look like anyplace I've ever been before. [Though that doesn't exactly narrow it down.] And nothing in this pamphlet indicates that the war is over or that it even existed.

[She lowers her eyes, giving pause before pressing onward--there was no other way to go, and if she were to be of any use to anyone, she'd have to be practical and tend to her immediate needs.]

I was informed that I would need to find a place to stay, and a means to earn my room and board. I'd rather go off any leads rather than wander about aimlessly, so if you've the need of someone good with airships or droids, even computers and the like--I've a lot of hands-on experience. I'm also an adequate pilot, if that's something that's useful here.

[Fixing the lightsaber would have to wait.]

Hello.

[The 'person' in the feet is very much obviously a droid, made of metal and 7ft tall as he is.]

There's no war here, even if we have incident every now and then. If you are new, you can stay in the common room for a whole month, do you have a place to stay while you look for a place to live.

What sort of droids are you familiar with?

[Her already-serious expression drops, and she straightens up.

He was an older model, for sure--but she'd seen gutted droids with similar features on downed imperial craft, and that insignia on his shoulder was unmistakable--]

You're an Old Empire droid. [It's said in a hurry, and she's quickly silent once more upon realizing that it may not know what she is--at least, as far as her allegiance was concerned.] I've worked with BB units, R-series droids and a few others.

[She wasn't going to include that some of them weren't ever all that functional...]

I'm a droid and I was made by the Empire but that's not my affiliation. [Kay scoffs.] Twelve years old is not old. You look older than me.

[Kay points to his other shoulder were there's an orange starbird painted on it. Now that he's in this world and he can't go back, Cassian and him decided that Kay was free to wear the real colours of a rebel.]

You might be from my world. I've meet more than a few R-series and protocols droids like Threepio but no BB units.

[She scrambles up, relief awash on her expression.] I know a Threepio! With an R2 unit back with the General.

I-I haven't worked on them, not as much as with the BB unit, but I've familiarized myself, in the event that ArToo needed any servicing.

[She knit her brow, tilting her head curiously.] What kind of make are you? I don't see many around like you. Or any, actually.

Which war do you mean?

Does he talk non-stop and panics a lot? It might be the same I know, I don't think there are two like him...the galaxy doesn't deserve that.

The R2 unit that always goes around everywhere with him is Artoo. I'd be surprised if he let you near his circuits, he has a temper. [Kay quite likes him, so he says the word 'temper' with fonder instead of exasperation.] Are you with the rebellion then?

I'm a KS series enforcer droid, I used to be property of the empire before I was reprogrammed and had the ability to develop my own personality. I'm a free droid now and here I am one of City Attleton's deputies.

The name's K-2So but you can call me Kaytoo .

['Which' war? --what an awful thing to consider--]

Between the First Order and the Resistance.

[The Light and the Dark--essentially, but she doesn't want to get in too deep. Not starting out.]

We're in another world, one that seems to be separated from our usual time and space locations if that makes any sense.

At the least, I'd probably use the chance to recover and regain your footing, especially if you've been in a war. I'm a teacher, my name's Toshinori Yagi. Toshinori or Toshi is fine.

[So much for being from the same galaxy, but at least things seem... sorta similar?]

... What do you know about the Clone Wars?

[ Not many speak of droids and airships like that... Or coming from a war. All of this sounds oddly familiar. ]

There aren't that many droids here, unfortunately.

[ At least until he finishes building some. ]

You're coming from a war as well?

[What a severe-looking fellow. Luckily Rey was good at hiding any signs of intimidation.]

It makes as much sense as anything else, I suppose.

[Which is to say--not a lot.]

Toshinori--I'm Rey. What is it you teach?

That's a pity. They make things a lot easier.

[She already finds herself missing BB-8. Though she's certain Poe and Finn are taking good care of him.]

I am. Things were starting to take a precarious turn. I'm certain General Organa will be fine without me--[What was she, in the grand scheme of things, after all? Just a scavenger who was sent off to find Luke Skywalker--and she'd completed that mission, ultimately.]--though I had barely a chance to reunite with my friends, and the First Order is having the opportunity to regroup and--

[Here she is, rambling--]

[Toshinori would apologize, because he didn't like being out in the open as a shriveled skeleton of a man anyhow if he knew.]

It's what I got out of the pamphlets at least.

I'm a high school teacher, mathematics, physics, I teach young aspiring heroes on how to use their Quirks, a unique special power to them, in order to use it properly. At least, I would if I had a Quirk. I'm just a teacher in a superhuman society.

[Another one of his white lies, but his backstory was starting to fill with holes recently.]

...'high school'...? [The words feel foreign on her lips, and she squints skeptically.] Is that like an academy for younglings, or something?

[What for?] Quirks though--I think I understand that, a bit. We have a handful of people like that where I'm from.

[Present company excluded? Not exactly.]

Ages 15 to 18 approximately. Just before they grow into adults, the schooling system back home works to educate them in history, science, math, and other notable courses.

[He looked surprised but smiled a little.] You have people who have powers too? That's interesting. Quirks are a part of my society, and have been for about four generations or so.

I'd be just past the age for that, then.

[She weakly smiles.] Where I'm from, people have--something special, sometimes. It's been around since the beginning of time, from what I've learned. How it's supposed to be handled has often been up for debate, it seems.

I see. Yes, you do look older than the usual age for high school. People your age would be getting into the workforce by now back home.

[He tilted his head curiously.] Really? Well, I can't argue with that. The school I teach at, Yuuhi High School is the number 1 hero school. We train the future generations of heroes in order to teach them right and wrong, to teach them laws and working with crowds, and to loudly proclaim at the top of their lungs, "I Am Here".

[He smiles fondly.] It was my school when I was growing up.

[She gives a sheepish shrug.] Not as much as I'd like. Where I come from there's not a lot in the way of literature.

I know of Darth Vader. I know of the Old Galactic Empire and the Old Republic--somewhat. The Skywalkers--Luke Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, the like.

[She smiles at the introduction. Outside of Threepio, this is probably the most articulate droid she's come across.

She liked him. But droids were always easier to talk to than people--she wasn't sure why. It was as though she felt more of a ready kinship with them. Like she was more use to them than with actual flesh and blood people.]

I'm Rey. It's good to meet you, Kaytoo. I'm with the Resistance--which is kind of the same thing, I think. Under General Leia Organa?

Okay, okay, wait. Slow down. Who's Darth Vader? Old? What happened to it? The Empire, I mean. I know what happened to the Republic.

No comment on Han Solo cause I... honestly don't know. But who's Luke and what does he have to do with- [She stops herself as she realizes this is probably too much of a reaction for Ashla. Not that Anakin hadn't ruined all of that already.] With General Skywalker. I've heard stories of his efforts in the Clone Wars.

[It's honestly so much easier to just incorporate the phone into his commlink systems. Sure that means next to no video feed ever.

But playing with a teeny tiny phone is not his idea of a fun day]

You have just escaped a war as well?

General Organa?

[ Yes, this raises a brow. First Order doesn't have any meaning to him, but he sure knows the Organas. ]

You're not speaking about Senator Bail Organa, are you?

[ Has the man chose to become active in some war after all?

Unless.... Maybe.... ]

Alderaan. Does it still exist for you?

[ He's looking at her sternly now as things might make sense. Maybe Bail has decided to get involved in other ways than the political one after the destruction of his home planet! ]

[ The girl's message is generic enough for a newcomer, other than the refreshing lack of panic or bluster, except she's mentioning specifically droids instead of simply robots. It's enough to make Cassian decide she's worth his time. ]

You'll want to try Nova City, the city has a lot of robots. New tech staff is always welcome, though you'll need to get used to the local technology. What kinds of droids are you familiar with?

[If Rey wanted someone with personality, she came to the right droid. In fact, a lot of people probably would be happier if Kay had less personality...but they're not important.]

Nice to meet you, Rey. Ah, yes, I've heard about it from others. That means you are from a time ahead of mine.

[It is droids and airships that catch her attention. Padmé has only been here a short time, but not many have spoken of droids. Or airships, really. A few have spoken of a planet called Earth, but she has met a few from her own galaxy.]

You are provided accommodations, for the first month anyway. I honestly don't know if there is much demand for pilots shuttling space ships, but you should have more luck with mechanics.
