[The first thing Rey did was make certain she still had all her belongings. She had her staff, the sacred Jedi texts, her bag, a few stale rations sunk to the bottom--and the hilt of the Skywalker lightsaber, severed in half.

She kept that well buried.

It didn't take her long to figure out how her newfound device worked, and she switched on the video feed, squinting skeptically into the camera.]

This doesn't look like anyplace I've ever been before. [Though that doesn't exactly narrow it down.] And nothing in this pamphlet indicates that the war is over or that it even existed.

[She lowers her eyes, giving pause before pressing onward--there was no other way to go, and if she were to be of any use to anyone, she'd have to be practical and tend to her immediate needs.]

I was informed that I would need to find a place to stay, and a means to earn my room and board. I'd rather go off any leads rather than wander about aimlessly, so if you've the need of someone good with airships or droids, even computers and the like--I've a lot of hands-on experience. I'm also an adequate pilot, if that's something that's useful here.

[Fixing the lightsaber would have to wait.]

[The 'person' in the feet is very much obviously a droid, made of metal and 7ft tall as he is.]

There's no war here, even if we have incident every now and then. If you are new, you can stay in the common room for a whole month, do you have a place to stay while you look for a place to live.

What sort of droids are you familiar with?

He was an older model, for sure--but she'd seen gutted droids with similar features on downed imperial craft, and that insignia on his shoulder was unmistakable--]

You're an Old Empire droid. [It's said in a hurry, and she's quickly silent once more upon realizing that it may not know what she is--at least, as far as her allegiance was concerned.] I've worked with BB units, R-series droids and a few others.

[She wasn't going to include that some of them weren't ever all that functional...]

I'm a droid and I was made by the Empire but that's not my affiliation. [Kay scoffs.] Twelve years old is not old. You look older than me.

[Kay points to his other shoulder were there's an orange starbird painted on it. Now that he's in this world and he can't go back, Cassian and him decided that Kay was free to wear the real colours of a rebel.]

You might be from my world. I've meet more than a few R-series and protocols droids like Threepio but no BB units.

I'm a high school teacher, mathematics, physics, I teach young aspiring heroes on how to use their Quirks, a unique special power to them, in order to use it properly. At least, I would if I had a Quirk. I'm just a teacher in a superhuman society.

[Another one of his white lies, but his backstory was starting to fill with holes recently.]

I am. Things were starting to take a precarious turn. I'm certain General Organa will be fine without me--[What was she, in the grand scheme of things, after all? Just a scavenger who was sent off to find Luke Skywalker--and she'd completed that mission, ultimately.]--though I had barely a chance to reunite with my friends, and the First Order is having the opportunity to regroup and--

[It's honestly so much easier to just incorporate the phone into his commlink systems. Sure that means next to no video feed ever.

You have just escaped a war as well?

Too early to say whether or not I've 'escaped' it, though from the looks of it I'm at least on leave from it for the moment. Who's to say?

[She did notice that 'as well,' should she ask?]

Are you in the middle of a war, too, where you're from?

[ The girl's message is generic enough for a newcomer, other than the refreshing lack of panic or bluster, except she's mentioning specifically droids instead of simply robots. It's enough to make Cassian decide she's worth his time. ]

You'll want to try Nova City, the city has a lot of robots. New tech staff is always welcome, though you'll need to get used to the local technology. What kinds of droids are you familiar with?

Nova City. Got it. How are we supposed to get there if there's no aircraft to navigate?

[Right down to business. She likes that.]

I've worked some basic stuff with an R2 unit and a BB unit primarily. I've had more experience with repairing broken droids rather than building them from scratch, to be perfectly honest, though...

[She's hesitant about this last bit.] I have the most experience with combing them for parts.

[It is droids and airships that catch her attention. Padmé has only been here a short time, but not many have spoken of droids. Or airships, really. A few have spoken of a planet called Earth, but she has met a few from her own galaxy.]

You are provided accommodations, for the first month anyway. I honestly don't know if there is much demand for pilots shuttling space ships, but you should have more luck with mechanics.

[Oh wow--she looks like--like something out of a storybook. Her eyes grow round for a moment before she blinks out of her stupor.]

That seems to be the consensus--still unsettling that there aren't more aircraft in these parts. I wonder why.

Have you thought about looking for work in Nova City, with the skills you say you have I think you'd do well there.

[She gives a curt nod, and though Rey's eyes first land on Fai, they're quickly drawn to--what is it he's making?]

Yes, though it seems that there are several people who come from war-torn places...a pity how common it is, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

...if we're without aircraft, how do we get from one place to another? How do I get to this Nova City, then?

Seems like way too many who've shown up here had a war back home. Someone's always finding things to fight about. I'm just glad the Empire group...er, that's the guys who were on the other side of the war I got mixed up in back home... isn't pushing things while we're all stuck here. Last thing we need is more fighting.

[She quickly poises herself to answer the next person to respond, and it's clear at first that she's been fielding several replies by this point.

--but upon seeing Han, hearing him--so much younger, but still with that roguish way about him--her mouth opens, but no sound comes out.

Her eyes start to glisten, and she closes her mouth.]

I'm...[Her voice catches in her throat, and she pushes back the tears with a smile.] I'm glad to hear it. And I'm with you on the flying bit. [She can only imagine how much you miss it.]

I'd like to help. Get us flying again. [Oops. She was trying not to be weird, but that was definitely weird.]

What experience have you had with droids?

[The appearance and even the voice may at first be mistaken for such a droid, if a particularly aggressive sounding one.]

[That is exactly what Rey mistakes you for--and something of an intimidating one, at that.]

I've yet to build one from scratch, but I've made do with several in need of repair and do quite well with communicating with them.

[She squints slightly, tilting her head.] Does that interest you?

No pilots are needed here, I'm really very sorry to say. There's no way to fly here, and no ships to fly.

[ He looks genuinely downcast for a moment about that, but then brightens again. ]

However, you mentioned droids?

There aren't? What do people use for transport, then?

[Her brow creases in concern. She's no stranger to being in the middle of a wasteland, but usually there was something that could be salvaged to make getting around easier.

As the young man's expression brightens, she resists the urge to come off more eager than was necessary. She gives a small nod.]

Yes, they're every bit as common as aircraft is where I come from, though much easier to acquire if you have the credits.
