genessia | Saddest Sonico

[It wasn't hard to realize something was amiss when Sonico was a no show for a performance, whether it was at his place or somewhere else. Maybe he was a bit paranoid, it could be something minor like she was sick and forgot to send a quick message, but that protective 'big brother' mentality of his made him want to go check on her. Just in case.

Of course he won't bother going to the door of her house like a normal person would, purely because he didn't want to deal with her roommates. Instead, he goes the same way he did back in October. Making use of that stylish jet pack that Ayame got him, he would fly up and check if the window to her room was unlocked. Wedging open the window slightly, he would peer in. Look, privacy wasn't a thing with him if he was concerned about someone.]

Sonico? You in, doll?

*The answer came as a low hum of agreement rather than with actual words. She was lying underneath her duvet, just a mound in the blankets. Meiji was lying right beside her though. The cheetah lifted her head towards Gale and made a few soft purring noises that could be translated as "Please come in. My human is sad and isn't moving. I need help."*

[ Even though Sonico is at home - she is always at home these days - it's striking how empty the house feels without her cheerful, kind presence filling it. Instead there is just her closed door and the knowledge that behind it, she is grieving.

Carrying a tray with tea and a sandwich, Cassian comes to her room. He knocks, waiting for a moment before he speaks up. ]

Sonico? Are you going to let me in? I've brought you food.

[His brow furrowed when he only got a hum in response. The good news was that since Meiji wasn't stressed out, Sonico must be physically okay, but something was still very clearly wrong. He opened the window fully and crawled in and hesitated as he looked over at the mound Sonico was hiding in. He closed the window again as he slowly approached the bedside, giving Meiji a nod of acknowledgment before turning his attention back to Sonico, leaning in and speaking gently.]

Hey, kid, what's wrong? Talk to me.

Even Sakuya noticed something was going on. After hearing that Sonico had not been to her latest gig (and after giving Sonico's employers quite a hard time due to the inevitable misunderstanding that would come of it) she stood outside of Sonico's door with a basket under her arm containing quite a few treats and some wine.

"Sonico? Are you there?" The question was accompanied by a sharp knock. "Are you well?"

*Beneath the blankets, Sonico just curled up into a ball. Her hand stretched out from underneath so that she could clutch tightly onto the edge of her pillow. She shook her head, though he couldn't exactly see that other than some movement of the duvet.

There are a few more moments of silence before Sonico finally does speak up. The way her voice cracks, it's clear she hasn't used her voice for much other than crying lately*

Doesn't matter.

*Sonico hasn't been eating or drinking properly for days, only sneaking to the kitchen for some tea or water when she knows the kitchen will be empty. Part of her doesn't want to each at all, but a part of her is actually hungry. Just when he might think she isn't coming, Sonico unlocks the door and opens it a crack to peer out at him*

Sonico was safe on her bed, wrapped up in her blankets and with Meiji keeping her company. She sat up, startled by Sakuya's voice being suddenly present in her home. She clears her throat awkwardly and calls out weakly, "I - I'm not - I'm... here but... I don't think you want to see me..."

[Kay knocks on her door, a tray with food and a glass of juice in his hand.]

Sonico? I know you're not feeling well but you need to eat something. I made you your favorite dish...uh...well no, I bought it, but only because I wanted to make sure I didn't screw it up. Cassian doesn't let me touch the oven.

And then Sakuya was in the room accompanied by a small but sudden draft. Oh right. She could fly. And stop time Coming in through the window was a thing she could do.

Pausing when Meiji made an angry sound at her, she waited until the big cat recognized her and calmed down before daring to relax. "Sonico." A hand came down, resting gently on Sonico's back. "Are you okay? Did something happen?"

[ He heaves a sigh of relief when she opens the door. ]

Hey. I hadn't believed you would anymore.

[ His voice is quiet, a little wry, and he thrusts out the tray like it's a peace offering. ]

I made you a sandwich, but I can make something else if there's anything you'd like. You need to eat properly. We're all worried for you.

If you're layin' here this distressed, then it clearly matters.

[He sits on the edge of her bed. Maybe he shouldn't pry, it's not his business, but his inner big brother instincts are kicked in full gear here. Even if she told him to leave, he probably wouldn't. Or he would just return later. And he's got enough complete disregard for her roommates that he has no issue crawling in through windows to get in.]

Whatever it is, I can lend you a shoulder, or an ear at the very least. Seein' you like this is worrying me.

*He was right - he was there because he cared so she owed it to him to at least explain. She peeks out at him from under the duvet, her face blotchy and red from all the crying she has done. She doesn't sit up, though, just lies there looking at him*

Mobius is gone.

*The truth of it spoken aloud makes the tears start again. She's cried enough that it stings her cheeks*

[Gale could feel his heart drop. Sure, he may have had no personal interest in the man in question, but knowing something that major just happened to Sonico of all people just hurt. She of all people didn't deserve to have someone ripped away from her like that.]

I'm sorry, Sonico.

[He knew what it was like to have people close taken away so suddenly, but he can't begin to understand how much it must hurt for her. He wasn't really sure what to do for her, beyond holding out his arms to offer her a hug.]

I have hugs in reserve for emergencies. I'm here for you, kid.

[He wanted to just scoop her up and hug her anyway, but he'd rather let her take up the offer if she wants to herself at her own pace.]

*Sonico knows he's here for her, and that knowledge does make her feel better, even if he might not guess it from her tears. She's too upset to move too quickly, so instead she almost crawls into Gale's arms, lying against him as she meets him. After a moment, she stops crying, but she still shakes with the tiny sobs that escape*

[When she does make it over to him, he gives her a nice firm hug. Hugs may not be a cure all, but he certainly knew from the times he consoled his sisters that they're pretty high on the comfort list. And it was at least a good sign that he could coax Sonico out from under the blankets and over to him.]

I'll be here for as long as you need me to be, alright? [He smiles faintly.] You let out whatever you need to.

[In the back of his mind, he's certainly wishing he could go to the Dream Docks and keep his Genessia memories just long enough to track down Mobius and deck him in the face for this. No one can control who leaves and when, sure, but it doesn't make Gale want to cause a little bodily harm to that Archon jackass any less.]

*Sonico attempts to cuddle back, but the hold on her arms isn't strong. She may have been in her room for days, but fortunately for Gale she has an ensuite bathroom for a shower, so at least she doesn't smell bad, despite her dishevelled appearance. She lay there quietly for a good few moments before looking up at him with red eyes*

I don't... I don't think I can cry anymore. It - it hurts.

*Sonico swallows hard - it's not just her eyes and her cheeks that hurt, but her heart and her chest too, painfully so*

I just - I wish I - even if I couldn't say goodbye. I just - wish I'd seen him... one last time.

*Sonico looks down at the sandwich, but feels no pangs of hunger despite how little she's eaten lately.

She opens the door open wider to accept it anyway, looking pale and untidy*

No... This will be plenty... Thank you...

Oh yeah, Sakuya and her magic tricks. Sonico blinked, a little startled, forgetting that her friend can do such things.

Meiji took a moment, being particularly protective of Sonico just now, then moved to settle down on the rug beside the bed. Sonico bit her lip as she looked up at Sakuya with sore red eyes. "Mobius... He left..."

*Sonico slowly gets up from her desk and opens her door to let Kay in. It has been quite some days by now and she's had a few visitors, so she actually looks quite pleased at the food on the tray*

Thank you Kay. I was...actually starting to feel quite hungry for once. It looks delicious.

[She wouldn't have to expend her energy if she didn't want to, as Gale had no issue being the one doing all the hugging there. He'd run a hand down her hair as he glanced down at her in mild confusion. 'Wish she'd seen him'? What did that even mean?]

Did he not bother to see you? I thought he stayed in this city.

[How the hell did that featherbrain leave her hanging? If he has the nerve to come back...]

Did something happen that you couldn't see him?

[...yeah. Should probably assume whatever it was was Genessia's doing first.]

*The movement of his hand on her head was soothing, so she kept her head bowed as she spoke, though her voice was strained and quiet*

I...hadn't seen him because... because he'd gone to the dream docks. Without - without seeing me, without saying goodbye and I -

*Her voice choked and she sobbed, wondering how it was possible she had any tears left in her*

And I wondered... maybe I'd done something wrong. Maybe he - maybe he realised he didn't really l-love me. I was... I was going to ask him. But then - he never came back. That was it. That was it...

*She sobbed again and swallowed hard in her struggle to speak*

[When her sobs began again, he held her tighter, still running his hand down her hair. He frowned. Going to the Dream Docks without telling her? What the hell was this guy's problem? But he shoved those thoughts away and shook his head.]

If there's one thing I think I can guarantee ya, it's that what you're thinking wasn't the case. That was one love struck pigeon if I'd ever seen one.

[Purely from his observations from afar, but it was easy to see at those parties they all went to how Mobius' demeanor had changed around Sonico.]

His race kinda has a major case of the whole 'loyalty' thing. On one hand, there's no way he didn't love you. On the other, that whole 'loyalty' thing is probably what made him go off to the docks in a hurry.

[Gale does realize that it probably seems weird that he would know so much about Mobius or his race without really talking to the guy himself, so he should probably go into a little extra detail.]

He an' I came from the same place, and I could tell by his uniform that he was in one of his homeland's most prestiged squadrons. Seein' that there's a major conflict where we came from, guilt of not bein' there was probably eating the guy so he'd gone off in a hurry.

If anything, it's Genessia bein' the master of bad timing that's to blame here. There's no way any of this is your fault.

*At 'love struck pigeon' Sonico looked up at him again, her eyes wondering, but very much willing this to be true*

Loyalty...?

*She sat up a bit more and wiped her fingers over her eyes. She smiled softly as Gale spoke about Mobius. She had a feeling that he wasn't terribly fond of him, but it was nice hearing good things said about Mobius. She sighed and looked away, her shoulders dropping*

I wouldn't want him to be guilty... I just - I hope he can't remember me because I - I wouldn't want him to be guilty or sad about me neither...

*Though the thought of him not remembering anything about her brought fresh tears to her eyes*

But I - I'm tired already of waiting for him to come back... It's only been a few days but - but... what if he's one of the ones that never comes back...?

Whether he comes back or not is too uncertain to say, but you never know what'll happen. This place is unpredictable.

[He's seen numerous people reappear in his time, but plenty of others never came back. He'd lost a number of people he grew fond of, and the last thing he wanted to do was get Sonico's hopes up or shoot them down. He wasn't sure what the right thing to say would be in this situation. He slid his hands to her shoulders, giving them a light squeeze.]

I know it won't be easy, but right now, the best thing for you to do is take care of yourself. Let those good memories with him help move you forward. And if he does come back, I'm sure he'll remember you. I'm not so sure this crazy place can take that away from a kashia.

[His smile seems to fade a bit and he looks at her eyes, wiping away the new tears with his thumb.]

Just promise me one thing. Even if you want some time to yourself for a while, don't close yourself off. You've got plenty of friends that'll support you however they can when you need us.

[Don't end up like him.]

You're welcome. [Shifting his posture so he's looming less over her, Kay offers Sonico the tray.]

There's more in the kitchen if you want it. I could bring t to you, or you could get out of your room for a bit.

"He..." Sakuya was quiet for a moment before slowly, carefully, she placed her basket off to one side and sat down on the bed next to Sonico. She hesitated before wrapping an arm around her friend's shoulders and squeezing lightly. It was a bit awkward but... well, she was trying.

"I'm sorry..."

The familiarity of Sakuya, having a friend's arm there, the offer of comfort, that set Sonico to new tears. They were soft, quiet tears though - there isn't much more sobbing left in her. "It's... not your fault... It's... not anyone's fault. He just... just disappeared... He's... gone. All... gone."

*Blinking into motion, Sonico gently takes the tray from Kay and steps back into her room*

Oh...

*She looks down at the tray for a moment, and finally back up again*

I - I think I'll eat this here but... I will come down to the kitchen if I need more...

*Which is a brave thing for her to say - her first signs that she might actually be willing to leave her room for a change*

*A part of Sonico just wants someone to say yes, Mobius will be back, of course he will. But Gale is telling the truth, which is the right thing to do. She takes in a long, shaky breath, and nods against his shoulder. When his hands squeeze her, she looks up at him again, fully determined not to cry again*

I hope... I hope you're right...

*She couldn't bare it if he came back and didn't know her. She swallows hard as he wipes away her tears and bites her lip, nodding gently in response*

Mmm. Okay...

And keep in mind if you need anything from me, I can drop everything and do it for ya, no questions asked. Nkay?

[He puts on as comforting a smile for her as he can, because when he says something like that, he means it. There aren't many people he'd do that for - especially here - but Sonico was certainly one that earned that luxury. And he'll certainly keep swinging by later on to check in on her... and probably drop off a couple small gifts because that's just what he does.]

There anything I can do for you right now?

[He'd start naming off things to fetch for her, but he doesn't want to go and overwhelm her. He'll even leave if she wants him to if she needs her space.]

Gale...

*Sonico struggles to sit up, feeling weak after all her upset, lacking energy to so anything anymore. But she does sit up and leans back so that she can look at him with sad red eyes*

Just...just being here. That's enough for me. And I'll - I'll be fine... Eventually... Probably.

*She bites her lip hard to try and stop the tears from flowing again*

But - but if you ever figure a way to bring him back... would you bring him back to me? Even - even if he doesn't remember...

[He waits by the door for a moment but since she left the door open, kay imagines it's okay if he walks in too.]

That's good to hear. Take your time, Sonico. I know that it's not easy to lose someone you care so much about.

*Sonico doesn't mind him being in her room at all. She carries the tray and puts it down on her little desk before sitting down tiredly on the edge of her bed*

I knew... somehow... that something like this might happen one day. It has happened to so many people... I just - never thought it could hurt this much...

[It's a young girl's room and the place she likes to hide where she's upset, he wanted to be respectful just in case. He moves to sit on the bed close to her.]

We are never prepared about something like this, no matter how much we think about it. I worry too that it will happen to us.
