Backdated because I was Outta Town, Video
[Marco is standing near a giant building on fire, looking for all the world, like the girl in the meme. You know de way the one. His hair is deep deep dark red. Someone take a billion pictures, because Grell isn't here to stop him or enjoy it for Valentine's Day.]
Oh gee.
[Deadpan. ABSOLUTE FREAKING EMOTIONLESS DEADPAN.] It sure would be a shame if a bunch of useless know-nothing two-bit crooks refused to be helpful or clean up their acts, and then left cigarettes and booze all lying around. I guess we better start adding fire safety to the district. [ S M I L E. ]
I hope other idiots take this as a lesson to start cleaning up after themselves, or they could always start answering questions. Otherwise we might see a whole spate of fires wherever suspects of missing person cases were! That'd be just terrible!!! [He's not even trying to act with it, allllllll deadpan.]
[ooc: Grell has been kidnapped. Marco is taking it... so well. So very well. With blood red hair symbolizing hatred and everything. So. Well.]

Re: video
[Now judging from the location of this video, he assumes this to have something to do with the unrest in the Everglades. If that's the case, this matter might get worse before it gets any better.]
I don't believe threatening arson is very diplomatic.
Re: video
Maybe if they were better neighbors, someone would have helped clean up their cigarettes and booze bottles. [SPREADS HANDS WITH A SHRUG.] But if you're not even going to take care of your own trash, don't be surprised if no one takes care of you.
Re: video
[At the very least, that's what it sounds like to him.]
So, what if a Good Samaritan was to meander over and offer to help with said "trash"? No good deed goes unpunished, I'm sure but the offer is there.
Re: video
Re: video
[If anyone would know about this matter, it would probably be Soma. That's his only liaision there within the Everglades. Augustine hasn't dared make himself known to the Count just yet.]
When did Miss Sutecliffe go missing? Exact date and time. Was she meeting with someone?
Surely she was lured out.
Re: video
[Rubs a hand in his hair. He feels like an idiot every time someone asks that. He could have protected her if he was with her, if it was in their home, but EXACT TIME AND DATE... Or location, or HOW she was lured out, with promises of what... He was a terrible captain. Grell was indomitable. IMMORTAL. So Marco didn't bother asking things like where she was going, or for how long. Even beyond that, such words and answers wouldn't mean anything to him. His brain literally couldn't compute it.]
I'm... a phoenix. [Begrudgingly, he actually hates admitting that usually, more fun to surprise.] I'm-- My wife and I are too woven through time I can't--
Time is like my tail feathers. Rings of gold strands scattered through the stars. They fold and create pockets and creases, and can hide things even from me, but narrowing down time...
She's never been a DAY without me before though. I can tell she's still in this plane, not another. But if I could narrow it down for days, I could find where she is, make sense?
[Probably not. He didn't make sense to Grell when he explained it either.]
Re: video
He feels a certain kind of way about that.]
A phoenix? [He pauses momentarily as he let's that information sink in.] Ah, it makes sense! The affinity to fire, the threat itself. You and your wife are immortals. Time is irrelevant and the same is for death but Miss Sutecliffe could still be harmed.
[That little bit of information might explain why no one has attempted to save this City Guardian. How dreadful.]
I'm half-vampire thanks to my mother, so I somewhat understand not being able to comprehend time. [Augustine is older than he looks.] I arrived here just about two weeks ago and I remember hearing about this several days before Saint Valentine's Day.
So let's say it's around that time frame.
[With that out the way, Augustine is assuming Grell vanished during a weekday, probably a Monday since he arrived here on a Wednesday and people where already talking about her.]
Who is her deputy guardian? Does she have one?
Re: video
Me. [Headtilt.] Oh. And Maribelle. We're both on the case. And my brothers are helping, of course.
Re: video
[That means wasn't an inside job. Good. That makes this easie, somewhat.]
Next question, what sort of "people" were involved with Miss Sutecliffe outside of family and friends? Any business liasions or perhaps enemies?
I'm aware that Miss Sutecliffe isn't particularly well liked by a few.
Re: video
Aye. That's the problem with narrowing it down. [Narrows his eyes.] And all the more reason those around here should start speaking up.
Re: video
[It seems that this new dandy vampire met Scarlet before. That's probably why he seems somewhat at ease knowing she's handling that matter. Augustine continues with questioning for the time being.
He's literally attempting to build a case here by jotting notes down using a quill and ink. However, he's not holding the quill at all. No, he's letting the enchanted pen write for him.
Yes, he's a fancy bougie thing.]
Then let's start with her most vocal adversary. Who would want to see her gone and why?
Re: video
Nah.
I doubt Emerald would have anything to do with it. [A stern look to Thatch and Namur, because they can be as headstrong and take charge independently as Marco.]
But as you said... Grell's not had a shortage of enemies no matter where we go. It would have to be someone more powerful than Emerald, however. I've seen Grell duel demons with nothing but her chainsaw and teeth. And she bit my phoenix tail, which was when I decided I needed to marry her. Whoever messed with Kitten had to be more than just physically or politically powerfully strong.
Re: video
Emerald? [That's a new name he hasn't heard before. The quill jotts the name quickly within his notebook and leaves a few question marks by it.] Even if Emerald herself cannot overpower Miss Sutcliffe, she might know of someone who can.
[He smirks a little once Marco regals with that short tale. Augustine can tell the man truly does loves his wife.]
Your wife sounds like quite the charmer. If someone did attack her, she probably took a bite out of them.
[His smile suddenly fades at the next question.]
Does she have a weakness that can be exploited? For example, most vampires are weaker during the day than evenings.
Re: video
I doubt it. Emerald isn't that well connected. And Grell wouldn't meet up with her without telling me.
[Beams.] Aye, she has sharp teeth. And whips.
Nay. [Water was covered with Namur, who actually found a submerged city in his search. And Grell didn't need to breathe, and had her pirate memories too now.] Demons. Soul eaters. But she made that work for her. And we danced when Vlad tried to summon an army. [True story. Welcome to Genessia's most fucked up couple.] That's why I'm so puzzled. She's as resistant to drugs, alcohol, cuts, and more as I am. [Well, she's blind without her glasses, but she fought blindfolded with him back to back in darkness and versus blackholes. In fact, she was the one keeping him from freaking out with the blackholes and darkness!]
[Finally Marco's eyes narrow. He knows one thing.]
[He glances at Thatch, all but telepathically communicating with his right hand man, thinking through whether the information could hurt her or them.]
[Weighing it.]
[Grell might be mad at him for exposing it, but if it got her back... no more importantly....]
Children. She loves them. Our son is protected, so she wouldn't have been fooled by that, but if someone was kidnapping children she would go alone thinking she could handle it. And normally she could. But she wouldn't leave if there was even one child still in danger. [Thus no teleporting, especially if there was more than she could carry to safety, and just expecting Marco to find her.] Look for actual kidnappers, and if there's an underground ring of slavers, she wouldn't leave until they were dealt with no matter what the cost of pain to her.
Re: video
Genessia is fortunate that his attempts to do so were...thwarted.
[The magical quill beside him dips itself within the black ink briefly before writing boldly "They're mad! Absolutely mad in every sense of the word."]
In anycase, I wager the only way to overpower Miss Sutcliffe or gain some sort of leverage over her---is for them to use children as bait.
[The quill writes that down and circles it in red.]
If there's a slavery ring in the Everglades, then your wife definitely would've sought to stop it. This is her jurisdiction after all and from your claims, she shares a similar weakness much like myself for the little ones.
[He frowns.]
Still, I currently have no suspects other than possibly Emerald. Think hard, who else had possible gripes with your beloved?
Re: video
[Shifts his jaw and reluctantly shakes his head.] Too many to list, and too few worth noting before. I assume it's gotta be my city, but if they're smart, it's not. If it's connected elsewhere, that would be another reason she wouldn't have told me, since we try not to interfere in the others too much.
Not even the birds have seen much though, yoi. But I haven't asked the other cities' flocks. We lived in Nova before Everglade changed its anti-non-human policies. But Grell has connections all over. And therefore; enemies as well. Fayren we've checked, she hasn't come through. I can't think of anything in Attleton to interest her though.
Re: video
[The quill writes down those cities before going back and adding Attleton to the mix just in case.]
I do apologize for this entire ordeal. In truth, it's startling that no one attempted to find your wife sooner. If I come across anything, I'll be sure to contact you promptly.
Re: video
But even with this fire, it's very targeted. A lure.
Re: video
[Marco! That is not how a deputy should act but that seems rather effective.]
Try not to burn everything to the ground! At least not when I'm there.
Re: video
THIS time.
[Marco prioritizes Grell > family > territory under his protection > the multiverse > time > justice-lovers and then > slavers at the very bottom. Buildings can be replaced. Days without Grell cannot.]
Re: video
Smashing.
