[The Beach, Fayren]

[Naturally, it hadn’t taken Katara long to find the beach once she and Zuko had found their way into Fayren. The waves were proving to be the perfect therapy for the anxious waterbender, and served as an even better playground for her new companions.

She can be found at the water’s edge later in the afternoon, beaming at the Lapras swimming not far from the shore as she bends the water it shoots to her higher into the sky in swirling formations.]

Good girl!

The Singing Meadows
[While the beach seems to have had a more positive effect, Katara has stumbled upon something just as mesmerizing, but… in a way that makes her heart ache. She can be found at the edge of the meadows early in the morning, arms wrapped about her knees as she listens to the wind weave through the reed-plants.

It’s soothing, but… it reminds her too much of a certain Avatar back home, and the worry is clear on her face.

...Could be the scowl. Could be the tears she hasn’t noticed yet.]

Fish Market

[It’s definitely not hard to find Katara wandering the fish market in the mornings as the catch comes in. She’s absolutely delighted, and it’s clear on her face as she meanders through the fisherman’s stations, trying to decide what she’ll be making for dinner. It almost reminds her of the Southern Water Tribe, and she’s comfortable here.]

Wow... all of this was caught this morning?

[While exploring the area, she might find herself outside of the cafe, wondering if they might have a decent cup of tea…]

[Katara isn't the only one interested in tea. Rika had been hoping to find a place to relax and gather her thoughts between job applications. She is about to enter when she notices Katara.]

Mii... Are you going in? [The fellow teen asks, contemplating herself. Drinking tea alone in a cafe looks kind of... lonely. And Rika doesn't want to seem like she has no friends.

Even if it's a bit true.]

The Doctor had really just meant to take a stroll, albeit quite a brisk stroll by most people's standards--which is likely how he wound up so far afield (ha!) without quite realizing it. That, and certain troubles on his mind. It was a strange place to walk himself to, given what had brought him there, before, what he'd had to do, and how it resonated with him at the moment.

Between his own reverie and the attention-grabbing sound of the wind in the reeds, he almost doesn't notice the girl sitting there. At least, not until he's close enough to pick up on her melancholy demeanor. Had he just seen her sitting there, he might have avoided disturbing her (and his own slightly morbid train of thought), but seeing she was upset, well, he couldn't just turn his back like a normal person, could he?

"Sorry to intrude, hello, couldn't help noticing you seemed..." He glances at her cheeks briefly, barely pausing. "...troubled. Ev'rything all right?"

Fish Market

I would hope so.

[The voice came from a woman standing a good 8 feet tall with large horns, a crate of fish hoisted onto her shoulder.]

Cured fish do well for long voyages, but I much prefer a fresh roasted fish over anything else.

[Katara blinks, turning to look at the girl in surprise before she grins, cheeks flushing a little. It's little embarrassing to be caught outside just...staring.]

Oh, um- yeah! I think so. Just wondering what sort of place this is.

[She can tell it's a cafe, but... she's new here.]

Beach

Koishi was watching Katara bend with a measure of interest. She was inching closer and closer, her nature keeping her unseen and unnoticed... At least until she was exceptionally close and one of Katara's movements clonked her in the mouth.

That's one way to get someone to notice you, Koishi.

The little youkai was sent drifting quickly back, covering her mouth and wiping a little bit of blood from her lip. It was't bad. She had just bitten her lip. But still...

"Ah! Miss! I'm here! Can you see me now? Miss?"

Meadows

[After looking around trying to find a job, Zuko had then gone looking for Katara. She hadn't been where he thought she would be, and he didn't like those phone things, so he didn't try calling. Instead, he went looking for her. After asking around a bit, someone pointed him in the right direction, leading him to the meadows.

And there she was, her blue standing out against the reeds and grasses. Pausing he blinked once, looked around, and then back to Katara. Yeah... it wasn't too hard to figure out.

So the firebender came closer and sat down next to her.]

Hey.

[oceanblue]

[It takes her only a few seconds to realize she's being talked to, lost in her thoughts as she is, but she's quick to find the source and realize her eyes are wet. A quick brush of her arm wrappings takes care of that for the most part, and she attempts a smile at the newcomer.]

Ah, sorry. This place just reminds me of a friend back home.

[There. That will work, right? It's not a lie, and she's not dumping all of her troubles onto a total stranger.]

[Theres a natural tensing in her shoulders at the sound of someone else approaching- she's not sure she wants to face another round of the embarrassment of being caught so emotional out in the open-- but it falls away the second she looks up.

Ah. Zuko. She doesn't have to fake it this time.

She doesn't move much as he approaches, and keeps her arms wrapped around her knees, only lifting one to swipe at her cheek as he sits.]

Hey...

[lordhotman]

[And with that, there was several moments of silence as Zuko drew up his knees and folded his arms over them. His Torchic finally catching up with him and hopping over instead he's standing in front of them, tilting his head and blinking his eyes.]

Chic?

[Zuko just looks at the Pokemon, still not sure what to make of these things. But that's not important right now.]

I'm sure he's fine.

[He's not looking at Katara but the words are obviously meant for her.]

He's the Avatar. Whatever happened to him, he'll get through it.

[oceanblue]

[Her eyes go to the torchic as well, though she responds without hesitation. There's no use in denying it; Zuko's seen right through her.]

I know. It's not that I don't think he can do it, but...

[She has promised him he wouldn't have to do it alone. Despite it being his destiny to take down the firelord, she had thought she could at least be around for backup if he needed her.

There are also her brother and the others to think about as well. Sure, Sokka could handle himself, too, but...]

I just hate being so helpless.

[Not knowing was making it even worse, and being in an entirely new place against her will with no hope of return in sight...

There's just a lot going on..]

[She turns, surprised at what she sees and awe clear in her expression for the first few beats.

…she’s quick-ish to recover though, and smiles up at the woman, feeling…. Really tiny.] There’s nothing better than food fresh from the water, [she agrees with a shrug. She’s…clearly very happy to have found something similar to the food from home.]

[Katara’s reaction is immediate once she’s realized she’s hit something, and the water stops to hover in a glittering stream midair as she turns to locate the sound of the voice.]

Oh! I’m so sorry, are you okay?

[Alexstrasza just similes down at Katara.]

I'm more partial to the mammoths of Northrend of my own world, but I'd never turn down a good roasted fish.

[She reaches up into the crate and produces a rather large trout before inhaling and breathing a large plume of flame onto the fish, cooking it in a manner of moments.]

Care for some?

[She might look a little sheepish for a minute-- what on earth is a mammoth?-- but she's still beaming nonetheless.] I haven't found anything like the sea prunes from my tribe, but I'm happy to see seafood at the very least.

[While Alexstrasza might be expecting an actual answer, Katara's far too surprised to actually give a 'yes'. Instead-]

You're a firebender!

Koishi steadies herself and licks the blood from her lip. "Yeah. You got me pretty good Miss. Hehe." Completely fine. After all, she was laughing.

"I came by because I saw the sparkles. They were pretty. Are you making the water do that?" She hadn't even introduced herself and already she was prying into other people's business.

[Alexstrasza blinks and cocks her head to one side for a moment before smiling.]

I've not come across that term, I'm afraid. If you mean my breath, that is not unique to just me.

[She glances around with a smirk as if she's going to let some big secret slip before leaning down and whispering to Katara, the illusion around her eyes fading slightly allowing her golden eyes to turn more reptillian.]

I'm actually a dragon.

[She straightens up again, one hand smoothing out the cape behind her.]

I take this form primarily to avoid putting anyone on edge.

The Beach - Fayren

[Seth doesn't spend a lot of time in Fayren but since the arrival of Pokemon in Genessia, he's been expanding his walks, showing the odd little creatures the different climates of the worlds that connect to Genessia like a puzzle.

Today, Espurr is following behind him, not unlike a baby duck. Seth doesn't understand humans or animals very well but he hopes that his pokemon friends will be quick to become comfortable with their new surroundings and develop hobbies of their own. He'd hate to put them back in those depressing pokeballs for any long period of time.

His light golden eyes land on Katara and then her Lapras in the distance.] Cute. [Seth steps forward, his thumbs looped into his pockets while Espurr waddled behind him.

He likes the beach though specifically for summer days where there might be a vendor selling ice cream. The water itself held little entertainment for him.]

[Looking over at Katara as she spoke, he then looked away again. His Torchic fluffing out his feathers before placing himself between them.]

I know.

[He knew that feeling of helplessness so well. It was never something he liked. He always tried to be so tough and independent so that he wouldn't have to feel that way. Zuko has had a lot of lessons since then though.]

There has to be a way back.

[She's quiet for a few minutes, trying not to focus too hard on the reeds and their song. It's easier now that Zuko's here- more obvious that they're not alone in this weird situation.

She turns enough to watch the strange bird settle between them before she risks a quick glance at the boy beside her, then turns out to the meadow again.

She's not sure if what he says is true. Some of the people she's met have been here for a while, and if they haven't been able to find a way home, then...

Rather than focus on that, she addresses another topic that's been pressing at her mind while sitting alone in her thoughts.]

Are you okay? I mean... Azula just...

[Theres a lot Azula had just done. Enemy or no, even Katara had been shaken by the other girl's meltdown, even before she had hurt Zuko...]

[He raises his eyebrows, acting like he hadn't noticed her swiping at her eyes at all, and gives her a sort of wry, knowing smile as he looks off across the meadow.]

...funny, reminds me of someone a bit, too. Not the singing, just somewhere I happened to run into 'im having a... bad day.

[A bad day for both of them, but no need to bring up with her details he hadn't talked to anyone else about either.]

Don't mind if I sit, too, do you?

Riza didn't normally travel too far outside of Genessia City, but she was told about a beautiful meadow that seemed to sing, and was curious to see if the stories were true.

It really was beautiful, and serene. Definitely an alternative to the range (although that was where her heart was if she was ever stressed), especially with her recently overworked mind, and nightmares of home that she didn't want to admit she was having.

As she walked, calming with what sounded like a natural sort of music, she spotted a young girl alone... with tears...?

Concerned, she slowly made her way to the girl, making a bit of noise as she grew closer, in an attempt to not surprise her.

"Excuse me... is everything okay?" Riza sounded calm and the concern showed through her voice.

Yeah, I'm okay.

[And he said that without hesitation. He was fine.]

I knew what I was getting into, and I had to do it.

[It was the only way to free his country. That was Zuko's part in helping to save the world. Not only that, it was his duty.]

[oceanblue]

[Well... if he said so. He sounded resolute enough for her to believe it for now.

She's quite for a few more beats before-]

How are you feeling?

[She's tried so hard not to pester him to death with asking, but...]

I'm so sorry, [Katara repeats, very clearly embarrassed. The girl looks okay, though, all things given.] I guess I really got lost in my bending.

[That had, afterall, been her overall intention in coming down to the water. Bending distracted her from thinking too much about home.

She grins at the girl's question.] Oh, no, that wasn't me. I only control the water; the sun does all the hard work. [As if to prove the point, she tosses another short stream of water up from the waves before they hit the shore, sending it spraying into glittering droplets as it falls back down.] My name is Katara. I'm a water bender.

Upon the sound of footsteps, Katara was quick to blink away the tears and turn to the source, though it was obvious in her expression that she wasn't immediately sure how to answer the woman's question. On one hand, she could lie, cover up her anxiety and doubts with a feeble excuse for the tears. It wouldn't be too hard to explain that she was new in this city-- this world. Surely anyone else her age would be just as shaken.
But on the other hand, she could be honest, weigh someone else down with her burdens, the ones with no real answer. They couldn't get home, and no one she and Zuko had met had been able to give them any reasonable hope.

"I... I'm alright. This place just reminds me of someone from back home," she excused lamely, giving the woman a somewhat feeble smile. The worry in her eyes was more than enough to shatter the illusion she had hoped to create, however, and she was quick to turn her attention back to the reeds. "My friend and I were just brought here a few days ago."

There. Not a lie, yet not the full story. That would work... right?
