[It's March 13, 2018. Somehow, the date seems quite...significant for Karla. Come to think of it, it was about this time of the year when she first arrived in Genessia. So she searches her device for her very first network post. Said post was dated on March 13, 2014.]

Four years. I've been in this world for four years now.

[She stops to remember all the times she's had here. All she's learned. When she first arrived, she had no idea what to do with herself. She certainly didn't care about the whole Guardianship thing, and never even bothered to vote. And now she was part of the Guardian team in Genessia City, and it just feels right for her.]

Well...there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, except...wow.

[Action - Holodeck'd in Genessia City]

[Doing what she normally does, Karla can be found in the Holodeck'd in her daily training sessions. Only now, she has her three Pokemon with her: Squirtle, Poochyena, and Swablu. This time, they were in a grassy field, where the Pokemon were having tackle wars with three Pidgey, while Karla was battling it out with a knight in silver armor wielding a large sword. After trading heavy blows for a few moments, the knight was defeated. Karla gave a sigh, sheathing her sword as she glanced at the Pokemon. The three Pidgey had also fainted, leaving Squirtle, Poochyena, and Swablu standing victorious. Karla approached them with a smile.]

All right, you've done well. I think that's enough for today, don't you think?

[The Pokemon give her an affirmative nod. Karla then stretches out her arms. Swablu takes notice of this and moves around in front of her. Karla looks down curiously at the little blue bird.]

...What is it, Swablu?

[The Swablu gives a soft, soothing hum, as if it were singing a peaceful lullaby. Karla blinks for a moment before she blacks out, collapsing to the floor. Poochyena yawns and curls next to her, falling fast asleep. Squirtle tips backwards, pulling its head and limbs into its shell. Swablu stops singing, blinking at them and chirping in delight.]

[Eliot shudders. There's no way that's right.]

Did I mishear you?

Um...no, you heard correctly.

[She can't help but giggle slightly, though she doesn't know why.]

... That's a lot time.

Do you, um... Enjoy it here?

Well...

[Karla has to think about that one for a moment. She hadn't wanted to become complacent here, but she can't say she's ungrateful for her experiences here.]

...I suppose I do. Though I still wish I could return home to continue my journey.

I see...

I've been wondering if it's okay to enjoy myself here. I have an important job back home. It feels so strange not to be working.

Well... happy anniversary then, I guess? I mean I guess being kidnapped is a weird thing to celebrate, but do people usually do anything for their arrival anniversaries?

Um...not that I'm aware of. I just take a few moments to recall my experiences here, and how I've changed since I first arrived.

[Lea nods.]

I wouldn't mind hearing about some of those experiences myself if you're up for it. And while I haven't been here nearly as long, I could tell you a bit more about my world.

Well...they're not too different from what we've experienced recently.

Although...the story of how I became a Deputy Guardian is...not exactly normal procedure...

Well I doubt mine was either, but it definitely sounds like there's a story behind yours that's better than 'just responded to Guardian's network message and asked for a job'.

Wanna talk about it over lunch later or something? I found this tea shop awhile back that also has great sandwiches.

I'm not sure if "better" is the word for it, but...it's certainly a story.

[She giggles a bit.]

Sure, I can tell you about it over lunch sometime.

[Lea grins.]

Alright then! Any particular day good for you? Or should we just do it today?

[Ah, there's that endearing grin. Karla's smile widens.]

Hmm...today is fine. I don't have anything else going on...

OK, I'll meet you at the office a little before lunch then, and we'll head over.

All right...

[After meeting at the office and heading over to the tea shop, Karla takes her seat at the table, waiting for Lea to get settled also. She takes a deep breath.]

Well, shall I begin?

[Lea nodded once he was settled.]

Sure, go for it.

[They'd likely have to pause briefly when the waiter showed up, but for now, he was all ears.]

All right...

[She paused as she pondered just how she was going to explain everything. She then thinks of the irony of her current position versus her view of the Guardian position in her earlier days. So she decides to start from there.]

Believe it or not, in my earlier time here, I never even thought about the Guardianship position. I didn't really know what Guardianship was, really. The way people talked about it, it sounded somewhat like Guardians were rulers. Some people did like to act like Guardians were rulers, anyway. I even had my reservations about voting for the Guardians, because anyone can say anything to convince people to vote for them.

The idea of running for Guardianship or even becoming a Deputy Guardian had never even crossed my mind. But then one day, when nominations opened up, an anonymous person nominated me for Guardianship of Genessia City.

[She stops for a moment to give Lea time to process all that so far. Good thing, since the waiter came to take their orders.]

[Lea quickly placed his order- a turkey and cranberry sandwich and chips, plus a cup of spiced chai tea- before replying to Karla.]

Well they kinda are and they're kinda not, so yeah, I can see why it might be confusing to people, especially at first. I had a good bit of time to get used to the idea of voting for them though.

And wow, you were nominated for Guardian? How'd that go?

[Karla simply orders a beef sandwich with lettuce and tomato, and a lightly sweetened tea. At Lea's question, she shook her head, suppressing a laugh.]

Well, this is the crazy part. The person who nominated me was actually a criminal named Roman Torchwick. David approached me, suspecting that Roman only nominated me so that he could use me. I really didn't know what I was going to do as a City Guardian regardless, so I withdrew from the race. That's when David offered me the Deputy Guardian job, which I accepted.

Well that's definitely an interesting way to get a job. And to meet your future boss. Though did you ever find out why that guy actually nominated you? Cause if he thought he could use you he obviously didn't know you very well.

Well, I actually knew David before then. I just hadn't really thought of him as a friend until that point. And that was because he told me that I was a friend.

Well...I never was good at making decisions, and Roman must have known that. So he could have taken advantage of that...

I dunno; you had enough sense to turn down the job of Guardian, rather than try to do it just to prove something. That's better decision making than a lot of people might display right there. And since I've known you, you seem to be better at it than me, for what that's worth.

Hmm...I suppose.

[It was a good point, but she definitely not certain on the second one.]

Well...that might be just from experience. Occasionally I question just how effective I am as a deputy, because so many people have some sort of super powers or special abilities, and I don't. While I have been given some items to help me deal with enemies with such abilities, I still can't help the feeling that I'm at a disadvantage...

I more meant 'better at decision making', but I do think you're a good Deputy Guardian too. You're really dedicated and you seem to genuinely care about the people of the city.

Me, I only first asked about the job because I felt I didn't really have that many prospects otherwise. Yeah, I can kick a lot more butt in a fight than the average person and do fire magic, but that's about all I've got as far as marketable skills goes. I don't really know how to do anything else useful, at least not well enough to get paid for it.

Well, that makes two of us. I'm good with the sword, but not much else. I was a waitress for a short while in my early days here, but it still felt awkward to me. But then the owner of the restaurant was sent home, and I was left looking for work again...

[Lea nods his understanding.]

Out of curiosity, ave you managed to find a way to make... non-fighting related things feel less awkward since then? Cause I'm kinda stuck on that point.

Well...not really. Since I've been a deputy, I haven't really had to think about it. But there are always security guard jobs somewhere. I've actually been part of the Schnee Company's security team for some time as well.

Huh, interesting. I've never really thought about taking on a second job. Mostly because the paperwork from this one is more than enough, and it pays enough to cover everything. That, and it's good to have time to relax too; might not have much if I had two jobs.

[Karla nods.]

True...it isn't necessary to have a second job if the one you have pays the bills. Honestly, I don't really need the second job myself. But the deputy job came rather unexpectedly, and I just hadn't bothered quitting the Schnee Company. I wouldn't have much to do with my free time anyway. Most of the free time I do have, I spend training in the holodeck'd...

Seriously? OK, that settles it. Once the weather warms up a bit, I'm gonna have to invite you to a BBQ or something. Because no offense, but I'm not about to let my friends have less of a life than me.

[Lea is well aware that he doesn't have much of a life, so someone having even less of one is kind of sad.]

[She can't help but laugh.]

I'll look forward to it. I have to say, I feel like I've been having more of a life since I met you...

[She briefly wonders what it is, but it'll come to her when the time is right. She is kind of puzzled at his last remark. As far as she can tell, he certainly has more of a life than she does. Perhaps there's more to him than what's visible on the outside.]

[Lea chuckles too.]

Well, glad I can be of help then.

[And it's right about then that their food and drinks arrive. Lea politely thanks the waiter before turning his attention back to Karla.]

Anyway, guess it's my turn now. Is there anything you've been wanting to know about my world?

I didn't realize you've been here that long.

[Enis pauses before rolling her shoulders in a shrug.]

Has it changed much since then?

Hmm...

[The question gives her serious pause for a moment.]

I suppose it has changed in a few ways...new areas being discovered, mostly. But I think it's the people here that change more than the place itself.

Are there many people here from four years ago?

[She's trying to imagine being here that long and can't.]

Well, there are a few. David Haller has been here that long...if not longer. Weiss, too...and her fiancé, I believe. And Satsuki Kiryuin was here when I arrived as well.

[That sounds like a lot of people.]

I hadn't realize it was so many. I know most of them except for Satsuki, I don't believe I've spoken to her.

Oh my goodness, congratulations! I've only been here for two.

It's been a while since we last talked.
