"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

The plaintive wail of having lost his job in one fell swoop was something Sadou Maou was keenly aware of. He screamed to the heavens at the injustice of it all, being ignored mostly by the other newcomers as he dropped to his knees.

"My job...!" He wailed. "My perfect attendance record, just... gone...!"

And his friends, servants and even noble steed Dullahan was gone.

"This sucks."

Backdated 3/20 An Hour Later

Walking into Everglade in an exploration made Sadou realize one thing: this place gave him so much power he felt at full power.

As a rule, he didn't transform into his full demonic form, and yet he rounded the corner to see a young girl being chased by a werewolf. As she passed him by, he grabbed the werewolf by the snout and slammed him into the pavement.

"Huh, so I did regain a lot of power just walking in here," he said, as the girl thanked him. And the werewolf whimpered as he picked him up. "Hey, buddy. Don't prey on innocent girls."

And he punted the werewolf across the yard towards the police station.

NOW - 3/21

"Welcome to Geraldi's Pizzeria, my name's Sadou Maou I'll be your waiter for today."

HE SECURED WORK! And sure it was the bottom of the totem pole, but Sadou was glad he found work. He needed work, and the first thing to buy was a new bike. And then find a new home to make his Demon's Palace.

And then... well...

"May I suggest the special for today? It's a two pies for one deal, and it comes with a fresh batch of chicken fries."

[While Ted is very good at ignoring things, especially things he doesn't mean to, that forlorn wail catches his attention as he makes towards its sorrowful source. Darting his gaze every which way, he cries out.]

Who! Who has uttered that mournful cry?

Sadou sat down, folding his legs under himself as he sighed deeply.]

That was me. Yo.

[He'll cross his legs and sit down too. For sympathy's sake.]

Oh.

[Well the young man sounded not-as-distraught as before. That's good, right?]

Whatever for?

Ah. My perfect attendance is ruined.

And I just got promoted to swing manager.

This sucks. If I wanted to go to another world I'd just head back to Enta Isla.

Oh! Not, ah, not necessarily. The current theory--forgive any abstruseness--is that time where you're from has ceased, as far as you're concerned, entirely. The you that's here, I mean. They'll hardly know you're gone!

So your record, in all likelihood, remains untarnished.

[Another salvific fact heroically delivered by yours truly. If only he knew the proper noun.]

I've never heard of that land. You held an occupation of some import there, then?

Why would a theory like that even work? Time doesn't just stopper up when you go to another world.

[said sadou with a cross look on his face.]

Yeah, well, that job's not important. I'm more interested in getting back to Tokyo, to my MgRonalds job.

I'd agree, were it simply a question of space or relocation. It's more that...mm, like a branch, say. Your own world was going along, as it would, before splintering you off into this one. A bit like a duplication, say. Not that you're a clone, or anything; well, you might be, but that theory's unproven.

[But enough about highly disturbing existential theories.]

MgRonalds? Odd name; what was the nature of the vocation?

Geez, well, I'm not going to bet on anything right now. Chiho would be mad if I was missing for months.

It's a fast food restaurant. Burgers, fries, sodas, that sort of thing. I just made swing manager.

[He wouldn't have expected a job like that to carry any significance for...anyone. What an odd young man?]

Hey, it's an important job. Not anyone can do it. As for me, I'm Sadou Maou.

[From somewhere around his waist he produces a thick tome, from which he pores over pages converting Japanese to English. Sadou, sadly, means almost nothing, being very common. That leaves the "Maou". When he finds out, he bursts into a shocked laugh.]

Hahaha! "Demon King!" Oh I can see why they wanted you for management! Good Lord! Hahaha!

Yeah, funny ain't it?

[He was a little amused at the guy's need to figure out names.] No weirder than that huh.

[They rarely lead him astray when it comes to figuring out one's essence in a pinch. That or they're just plain funny.]

Very; ah, yes, no stranger, and no saner either than some I've seen. Well, do you have your phone? I'm sure it could direct you to something right in your wheelhouse. You're the first in the world I've seen with such aspirations to both the culinary and the convenient. I'd fain speed you towards destiny.

Ah yeah sure. Hold on.

[Pulling out the phone, he held it out for Ted to see.] Any ideas?

[He eventually winds up working for the Pizza place so...]

[Darn backdated posts. Ted's careful to avoid touching anything himself; the phone gets very upset when it's handled by any but the owner.]

[Eventually he directs Sadou towards the employment recommendation page.]

Impersonal as that might sound, it rarely steers one wrong when it comes to vocation. Just tell it all, and I'm sure you'll be on your way to another perfect attendance record.

Okay thanks. I guess I should probably sort out securing a job, securing another home, the Demon's Castle II I suppose... or we're going on III now. I'll need another loyal steed...

[Mostly muttering to himself.]

[Ted nodded with gay confidence along to each resolution.]

Yes, yes, a castle and a colt, with the means of employment to secure each. Of course, without your own Rosinante you do worse than Quix-

[Wait. Demon's Castle? That funny name may have been a realer thing than he reckoned.]

Eheh, is your surname so seemly?

[Considering castle is more of a rental room than anything, he's working at getting someplace to stay as soon as he leaves here.]

Huh? It means a apartment and a bike, not a actual castle and a horse.

Kinda? Not really though, if anything it's an inaccurate translation.

I, heheh, should hope so. Well, I'm glad that was just...hyperbole.

[Or so he really hopes. Benefit of the doubt is the only thing keeping him sane these days. He gets back on his feet, as if to encourage the the burgeoning worker to do the metaphorical same.]

[Satou stops to look at the weird boy who just collapsed onto his knees. That kind of melodrama demands attention. And a short witch offering her hand.]

... You don't look okay. Can you stand?

I can stand... I'm just really, really upset right now.

[He took her hand and got up, and surprise surprise, she was as short as Chi was. Wow.]

[She helps him up, still lost as to what happened.]

Can I do anything to help?

Not unless you can magically whip up a managerial job for me.

Terra was nearby though she made no move to assist after the boy had subdued the werewolf. She was out for a walk and a little surprised to see violence prior to twilight. She wasn't sure why it was a surprise but the feeling shook through her. With a shake of her head she attempted to clear her thoughts and focus on the strange boy in front of her.

"Excuse me." Her voice was soft like the coo of a dove.

"I over heard you but you said that you regained your power here." It was an odd statement though Terra didn't doubt his prowess. "What did you mean? Do you not usually have access to your powers?"

She had trouble control her magic though she doubted his situation would help her.

"Hmm?" Turning towards Terra, he shook his head a little. "Ah, you heard that huh? Yeah, my powers are pretty drained. But this place, I kinda sucked up all the uh, energy, in this place and now I'm almost to full strength."

He rubbed his head a little. "I never realized how much there was in this area. I was just exploring."

"What is it that you absorbed?"

She can feel the ground beneath her and the energy that thrilled through the air but it wasn't the sort of thing that Terra thought she could touch. Was he talking about something else? Would he even want to tell her? Terra wasn't sure but she didn't think it hurt to ask.

"Ah... fear," replied Sadou, rubbing his neck with a almost apologetic expression on his face. "This place is saturated with it, and I just sucked it up like a sponge."

He didn't really want to get into details but the young woman seemed like she was all right to talk about magic and stuff. "I can get a boost or a recharge from fear all over the place. And this place is like a giant beacon."

"I see. I believe that the shield here is also strengthened by fear." If he wanted a place to regain his powers, this was the best place for him to hang out.

"Does that mean you'll want to live here?"

"Huh, imagine that. I hadn't realized that this place had fear as its primary shield function. That would make a whole lot of sense." said Sadou with a nod.

"I probably won't want to live here though," he added with a grin. "I'm more used to the hustle and bustle of a actual normal city with normal people. And it's closer to work too! I need to get a bicycle though."

Is was an odd person.

"Where do you work?" Terra didn't meet a lot of people like Sadou. He was friendly enough and she was curious about him. Not only that, it was strange to think that he wouldn't want to stay here when the power of fear fueled him. She found that admirable.

"Geraldi's Pizzaria in Genessia City. Back where I came from, I was working at MgRonalds, a hamburger restaurant. It was really nice, and the co-workers were all rather pleasant." explained Sadou. He had a pleasant smile, and a happy looking expression.

"It's so easy to find work here! I'm quite impressed. Finding work can be an unpleasant chore back home, especially if you don't have a resume."

Terra's fingers brushed thoughtfully against her lips. "I don't believe I've ever had a resume." She wasn't entirely sure what that was. "I work with flowers, in Attleton." She was thankful to have a job with something that she enjoys.

"I've notice that there aren't many flowers in Everglade. I think it's because of the fog."

"Neither did I. I had to start at the bottom to be perfectly honest." said Sadou. "It took me a year to get promoted to the shift manager position."

He rubbed his chin a little, looking around. "That's probably the case. It's not a good environment for flowers; too damp."

"There are some flowers that grow better in the damp. However there are less flowers that are able to grow with a lack of sunlight." Each flower needed their own balance of light and water. Everglade was an odd mix of the two and while it had some flowers, they were mostly all the same type.

"I take it that you don't know a lot about flowers"

"I hadn't really had the time to study flowers," admitted Sadao with a shake of his head. "There's not much I can do about that except ask you about it."

"You're working in a place here I take it?"

"The flower shop is in Attleton. I was looking for new flowers and seeds since it's early spring." She was going to see what she could find and help fill some of the green house that hadn't been taken care of in her absence.

"I want to find flowers from all the cities."

"I see. That makes sense. It would be easier to cultivate in a shop with more light." said Sadao. "Is there any specific ones you're looking for?"

"I am looking for flowers that aren't as common. Something special that I can grow." She's planning to make a corner of the green house darker if she must in order to help whatever she finds grow.

"Maybe some kind of cave or forest specimen then," said Sadao thoughtfully. "It might be a good idea to go into the forest. I could go looking for some?"

"That's a good idea." She smiled. "If you happen to go that way. I don't want to ask you to go out of your way for me."

"I'm still exploring the town, so I'll kip over to the forest and check it out. It's on me. I can take care of myself."

He grinned at Terra. "Oh by the way, I'm Sadao Maou. Nice to meet you."

"Thank you, That's very kind of you." She smiled. "I am Terra. It is very nice to meet you."

She liked meeting new people and making new friends. It was all still very new for Terra.

"Nice to meet you too Terra." said Sadao with a smile. It seems like he made a friend, a strong one too magically if his senses were telling him as such.

"Looks like the streets are quiet for the time being. Oh by the way..."

He reached into his bag and pulled out some coupons. "We're having a pizza sale in two days. Try some out, our store is in Genessia."

Terra looked quizzically at the coupons before gently taking them from Sadao's hand. This was the first time she had ever heard of coupons though it looked like it's a way to save money.

"Thank you. I will. I'm not sure if I've had pizza before but I'd love to try some."

She'd stop by with or without coupons.
