Apparently, I've been nominated for best dressed! [A giggle.] I think this calls for a new outfit or two! I don't suppose anyone would be willing to go on a shopping trip?

[Mami sort of felt bad to be putting off patrols like this, but they haven't found any sign of witches at all. The closest thing she's found to one is Uai...And it would be a shame to let whoever nominated her down, right?]

[At least that's what she tells herself to focus on the task at hand...Which is presently buying way too many groceries for a normal person. This is because she was also nominated for best cooking! If you haven't questioned her absurd amount of groceries or anything, perhaps she comes up to you asking:]

Do you know where I can find sugar? [She giggled at herself.] I can't seem to find it anywhere?

I suppose that's true too. But I don't feel right standing back and doing nothing when there's a problem. It's my duty to help people, I wouldn't feel right if I just stopped.

I usually patrol after work, and alternate which city I patrol in depending on the day.

You agreed to tea and snacks after patrols. I was also nominated for best in cooking. So as you're coming over to eat what I make, you might as well give me an opinion on it, right? I won't take no for an answer.

[She was not expecting a reaction from her gem in the middle of the store. Especially this nearby.]

[Soma could probably see a dim light pulsing from her ring. She hid her hand behind her back quickly, and took a look around, trying to make it seem like she was trying to figure out where she was in the store. When in reality, she was looking for a barrier.]

[She was sure there was none nearby...So what is her ring reacting to? It couldn't be this guy, could it? How would she even bring up that possibility? Should she follow him around the store to see? No, that's a bit weird.]

We're...all from different worlds, right? This may be a bit odd, but I'm really fascinated about where other people came from.

[Not near as odd as you hiding your hand behind your back, or the giant pile or groceries your planning on buying, but ok.]

[Yeeeah, sorry Mami, that ring isn't evading his notice. He knows a magic ring when he sees one. But he does have enough tact not to comment on it.]

That's a bit of an odd thing to ask someone in the middle of a grocery store... but okay, I'll bite. I'm from a version of Earth where vampires, demons, and other assorted monsters are real, magic is highly secretive but available if you know where to look, and where a highschool kid just might end up the prince of shadows without really wanting the job.

[Are his canines just a bit longer than normal? Does his gaze feel heavier than a human's should? Do you feel like you're trapped in a cage with a lion? All of those are common experiences for most humans around him. But if he's a vampire, why does he have a basket full of what looks like snack foods?]

[She listened to his explanation. That would explain why her gem is reacting. She definitely felt a distinct feeling like danger was present, but she was confident enough in her abilities to keep her cool. She faced monsters on a daily basis, surely she could handle any problem here...If one arose, that is.]

I'm assuming that high school kid is referring to you, then?

[She bit the inside of her cheek as she debated how much to tell him.]

Well, I've never been too far from the city I grew up in. It's has a slightly more high tech feel than Genesia City, but other than that, they're pretty similar. There is some magic there too, but only certain people can wield it.

I'm assuming you're one of those certain people?

[Answering a question with a question. Such subterfuge. He nods, though, as a concession.]

You could say that about me, yes. But you could also say I'm just a guy trying to get by in a world that's increasingly hostile, too.

[He frowns thoughtfully a moment, extending his senses toward her. What he finds... is not NEARLY what he expected. That frown deepens.]

You... Who the hell did this to you?

[That expression? Pain and horror, in about equal parts.]

[She giggled]

[What was that reaction?]

Pardon me? Who did...what to me?

[He moves closer, staring at her rather intently. It takes him a little while to locate the faint hint of what he was originally looking for - in the ring she hid before.]

Is... Is it normal for people where you came from, to have their souls outside of their bodies like that?

My soul...is outside my...body?

[She sounded like she couldn't believe it. But in her head she immediately thought of the one item in her possession that had the word soul in it's title. No way, though right?]

No. I am in no way joking, nor amused, nor any variant of affected by humor you care to name. Who did this to you?

[Soma. Is. Furious. That flashing thing her ring did before? It's probably damn near a solid glow right now.]

[By now she was no longer hiding the ring, and very much noticed it's glowing. She took a step back, reflexively transforming in a glow of light. The gem was now on her head.]

I-

[This was a bit too much to completely process here, and it probably showed on her face for a moment before she shoved trying to sort it out to the back of her mind. Her expression schooled into cool determination. The guy in front of her was dangerous. Even if his anger wasn't at her, she should still be on her guard.]

I did this to me.

[At least in her mind she did. She made her wish. This was her choice, even if she wasn't aware of the repercussions.]

[It's the transformation that makes Soma realize what's happening to him. He takes a step back, several slow, deep breaths, and just... forces himself to calm down. Her words take a few seconds beyond that to register to him, and he meets her determined gaze with one of deep sadness and sympathy.]

Then you have made a very grave mistake. The soul and body are not meant to exist separately. The body, knowing that it has been violated, will seek to regain its soul - and the soul will seek to return to the body. Kept separate, both will become increasingly corrupted, and eventually... you will turn into a monster. Possibly several of them. The power to separate soul from body is not common among humans. If someone assisted you in achieving this... please tell me who or what it was, because they must not be allowed to do it again.

[That is the second time in a handful of days that someone told her her decision to become a magical girl was going to turn her into a monster. Its really kind of hard to ignore it a second time. She was quiet for a few moments. The only way to tell her apart from a statue was that she was shaking a little.]

Kyubey...I took advantage of the opportunity Kyubey gave me. I was dying, and he gave me the opportunity to continue living.

But I've never heard of anyone turning into a monster before. That can't be the case! It can't be...If nothing else...Kyubey would've told me...And I-

[Yes she did just ignore a discovery that her soul was no longer in her body for the possibility of becoming a monster.]

No. You have to be wrong.

[He slumps a little at that. Well. It's hard to tell someone they made a mistake when the only other option was to die. Still...]

I take back what I said about it being a mistake, then. But my warning stands - unless you find some way to halt or reverse the corruption, you will be changed. And if this Kyubey is around... well. He had best hope I don't meet him. What did he get out of this deal, anyway?

[Could they really become witches? Did Madoka and Sayaka know? What about Kyoko...Her precious kohai... She made to leave, ignoring her groceries.]

[That moment of realization. Well. Looks like his own fears are confirmed. Whoever did this probably knew exactly what they were doing.]

I know of some, but it all depends on one's style. Mine might be vastly different to yours.

[Chiaki paused for a moment. She didn't care that she was put in worst dressed. She liked her clothing regardless, but she figured she might as well try something new clothing wise at least once in a while.
