I'm sure a lot of you have been wondering where I've been. My brother Whitley left some time ago, which means that someone's needed to run Schnee Company. I'd been trying to focus on the GSRF's advancement and it all came in at the same time, I've been more than occupied. Particularly considering I've been trying to organize a fundraiser for the GSRF. My money from selling the mansion I inherited isn't going to last forever and while we do have a number of generous donations, there are a significant number of costs to deal with as well. [ Labor, equipment, food for longer expeditions, repairs and maintenance, and more.. ]

I'm thinking of scaling back Schnee Company. Rather than full centers, I'd like to focus on having Schnee Company's primary location be the one in Genessia City and offer information kiosks in the other cities that link back to our and the GSRF's databases, as well as a call center that can be accessed from any of the kiosks. The biggest problem with scaling back is that it'll likely decrease profits from advertisement opportunities, which means I won't be able to afford to continue funding additional deputies for Nova City.

[ And frankly she wants to actually do huntressy things rather than be stuck in the office all the time. While Schnee Company helps, it's only part of the equation for what she wants to do. Her other option would be her father, and that's. Nope. He's probably already about to have a fit because she's thinking of decreasing profits instead of increasing them. ]

I don't suppose anyone has any brilliant ideas?

I might hold it after the elections. I used to hold them before since it was a good way to boost exposure for candidates [ namely herself when she was running ] but I think it might be better to give myself a little extra time for once. [ Between Schnee Company and the GSRF and wanting to plan her wedding and bounties and her new stalker... ]

I cannot say I understood most of what you've said, though that's likely because I've never had a mind for business ventures. But might I ask what the deputies do?

Deputies are a part of the City Guardian system.

City Guardians are individuals elected and charged with the protection of the city they are elected to. They may hire deputies to assist with their charge, two of which are paid for by the city.

However, given the scale of the problems many of the cities face, two is doable but not efficient- especially for Nova City. The Guardianship has been worked into a sector-based system that places deputies in charge of smaller areas in order to decrease response times to dangerous events. I instituted it when I was the City Guardian and it's been working to keep the city much safer than before without putting undue strain on individual Guardians and deputies.

In order to do that, however, I had been paying for additional deputies out-of-pocket with my income from Schnee Company. When my brother took over so I could focus on my Guardianship at the time and the GSRF, he continued doing so, and now it's back in my hands.

Certainly there could be a volunteer force of deputies to the Guardians? I would offer my services part time myself were Nova City a place I was comfortable in. I cannot be the only one who would be willing to do so.

As long as you can just avoid the last weekend in May... Provided Mayor Palmer can get that boardwalk of his completed by then it's when I'd like to have the Attleton fundraiser.

But yes, I'd say do it afterwards. I won't claim to know a lot about running a company but that rescaling you have planned sounds like it will be a lot of work.

I've found it's more effective to pay them when possible. Paid employees have an obligation and a guarantee- they're easier to fire if they aren't effective or behave in a way unfitting of a deputy. Volunteers tend to simply refuse to leave or stop doing what they're doing because this world has a tendency to bring in people who refuse to believe anyone is more right than they are, regardless of the rules.

Obviously it would be up to the Guardian himself right now, but I'd rather not pull funding and put them in that position.

It is unfortunate that Genessia would bring such people here in the first place, in that case. I cannot imagine the same happening in my homeland.

Perhaps a decrease in pay across the board? And if possible offer benefits that would make the role remain appealing but not put you in further financial strain. I'm not positive what those could be, however.

As I said before, I haven't the mind for business, so my apologies if my suggestions are unhelpful, Lady Schnee.

It'll be a lot of work at first, but it'll ultimately bring us down to two locations instead of one in every city. We would be able to have an IT person handle the information database and just check in on stations. Plus, we could expand to Everglade without the ongoing safety concerns that way. Since most of the workshops we offer at the non-central locations are for people from other worlds to adapt to the environment, they can all be at the primary location as well, and I'll talk to Aster Tech about getting a WaysPoint installed at the Genessia branch in case anyone needs immediate assistance.

What sort of fundraiser are you holding?

Maybe, but with Nova City being the most expensive city to live in I'd hesitate to suggest it. The payment is the same regardless of city- Attleton is easier to decrease the pay in because the cost of living is lower than the other cities.

Simply Weiss is fine. Sometimes not having a mind for business can be for the best or there's someone else I would've asked to begin with.

If the payment is the same regardless of city yet the cost of living is different, why not adjust the payment to match the cost of living in each city? Even if the amount received is different as long as the worth is the same I don't see why there would be an issue.

That would be something the local city government would have to do and considering Nova City's mayor, I would hesitate to rely on them for answers.

Sounds like you've got it all figured out... and I'm glad you won't be cutting the workshops, just relocating them, because my next question would have been who you are hoping to take over the task of helping new arrivals acclimatize. I'm glad Schnee will keep providing these services.

If there should be need for a local contact person, it can be handled by the municipal authorities. I'll bring it up when I next meet Mayor Palmer for our fundraiser planning. We're hosting a fair so we can hire a full-time head of the Neighborhood Watch.

Yes. Nova City, Genessia City, Attleton, and Everglade all have mayors. Fayren is run by a monarchy, though at the moment I think they have an acting reagent.

Of course. I have no intention of leaving everyone without necessary resources. I just need to do it in a way that I can still move forward, too.

Yes, though they're elected by natural residents of the cities rather than the whole population.
