[Lea's sitting on the couch in his apartment, looking thoughtful. His Growlithe, Fireball, is laying next to him with his head in Lea's lap, and Lea idly scratches the Pokémon's ears as he talks.]

...What kinds of things do people do when they're feeling down or lonely? Sparring is a good distraction for awhile, but that only goes so far, so I'm looking for ideas.

[And what he did the last time he felt this way is right out for multiple reasons.]

You know Xion, the friend of mine from back home that I've been living with? She's gone; sent back home.

[Lea sighs.]

I mean, I guess there's way worse things that could happen? She's back where she belongs, I'll still be working on helping her there, and I can still remember her here, but still... I miss her. The apartment feels really empty without her.

Hmm...

[Karla frowns.]

That's a shame...I was hoping to meet her one day...

I know it should be considered a good thing when people are sent home...but I know that doesn't stop those of us who remain from feeling sad...nor should it. I often remind myself that it's a good thing to be able to feel these emotions...happiness, sadness, or fear...but I know "normal" people wouldn't say that...

It is good to be able to feel them. Definitely preferable to the alternative.

But yeah, while it's good that our friends are back where they belong, it doesn't make being separated from them any easier.

[pause]

Do you have any friends from back home that you especially miss?

[Karla nods in agreement, but then falls silent at Lea's next question. She doesn't even have to think about the answer, but she does need a moment to sort out all the thoughts and emotions that come rushing to her at the thought.]

...My brother. I've been searching for him for a long time. The whole reason I took up the sword was...to become closer to him.

[Lea nods.]

Sounds a little like me and Isa, back when we were kids. We both decided we wanted to be palace guards when we grew up because it was something we could do together. We aren't related, but we might as well have been back then; we did everything we could together.

[She lets out a sigh. Lea mentioning Isa briefly reminds her of his recent time as a youngster, but now isn't the time to gush about how adorable his younger self was.]

If only it was something we had decided together. My brother lives for the sword, and I...to be honest, I hate the sword...

[Head tilt. That clearly wasn't something he was expecting.]

Any particular reason why?

Well...do you remember that time? That time when I was consumed with a lust for battle? That's why. I fear that's what's happened to my brother. And...I fear that will happen to me eventually...for real.

[Lea frowned.]

I guess it's possible. I never met your brother, so I couldn't tell you how likely it is.

But I do know that if that's what happened, it's still possible to come back from it. Especially if you've got someone who cares about you.

[He smiles slightly.]

At least...in this world I have people who can pull me out of that hole...

[There's a faint hint of a smile from Karla as well, but it only lasts for an eyeblink. She can only think of the dark reality in her own world, where she wanders alone. And she has no one to blame but herself.]

Yeah. I'll always be there to bring my friends back.

[There's a more determination than usual in those words, given what's happened. Xion's vanishing here has only made him more determined to restore her and Roxas in his own world.]

Though I'm sure you'll find somebody back home to help you out there too, sooner or later.
