[Action | Closed] Spirit in the Sword
((OOC: The date is left intentionally ambiguous due to the investigation progressing at the speed of mod. More top-levels will appear to correspond with the investigation process as more information is given. Treat this as a freewheeling chance to mingle and stuff.))
[Private messages to Aeslyn, Arro, Dove, Elias, Orihime, and Satou]
[This is the night he's been waiting for. Or dreading. Finding a day that worked with everyone's schedules was tricky, but today seemed best. He'd talked to all his loved ones, settled any outstanding affairs, because after tonight, he may have to do something drastic. Yes, more drastic than busting open a sword with a vengeful spirit that'd like nothing better than to drain them all. But first thing's first. He sends this mass text.]
Good evening. Now's the night we look into those spirits we've spoken of. First, a few rules: we're not to breathe a word about what we discover to anyone. Second, we are not, under any circumstance, to harm, much less kill, the spirit, not even to protect ourselves. Only if it's absolutely necessary to free it from the sword, and, if necessary to seal away the spirit again. As you all likely know, the spirit we're looking into is extremely dangerous and will enervate you upon touch. Should that happen, I will do all in my power to restore you. Nonetheless, secrecy and safety, primarily towards the spirit, are our top concerns. If that does not sit well with you, then please, divorce yourself from the matter. I won't blame you.
For everyone still interested, proceed to these coordinates. I'll escort, if you'd like.
[The location given is a little ways into the Fayren's woods. The weather was dark and stormy, which suited the mood. There wasn't a soul besides themselves in sight, Ted made sure of that. The location given was to a large lean-to, its interior pitch-black. His void, another measure for utmost security, privacy, and room. It's bigger on the inside; all the room they could possibly need, in fact. Within lies a singular, bright light, and a wide table with the haunted weapon as its sole feature. He'd be waiting without the lean-to, in a dark cloak. Just in case the want for subtlety was too subtle. He'd be very surprised if everyone came, or that their arrival wouldn't be heralded by a troupe of knights or something. He can't enforce either of his edicts, leaving him to the mercy of the honor system. Time for introductions.]
Good evening, everyone. You've my utmost thanks for what will likely be thankless work. Allow me to introduce you all to one another. First, the magic team, who will busy themselves with the seals and arcane paraphernalia surrounding the blade.
Arro is a veteran researcher who was kind enough to help me clean up a subterranean mess once before. The smell, I hope you'll agree, is much better than then. He's been in the world a while, and has worked tirelessly to unravel its mysteries.
Ms. Blackrose is no stranger to magic herself, or to the make of all crafts. I trust she can take apart any troublesome blade; certainly made a fine one.
Finally, Elias. He once kindly assisted me with a magical conundrum without asking. Now that I have asked, I trust he'll make miracles. It's only right with a name like that.
Our next are empaths, who ought to provide keen insight into the precise nature of the spirit without losing their heads in the process.
Dove is one such, boasting much perception with regards to spiritualities of all stripes. I'd expect nothing less from an angel, hehe.
Orihime Inoue, who has likely brought refreshments to add to my own, is another who can sense the spiritual. Not too hard to pry out of work, either, which I appreciate immensely.
Last but certainly not least, we've Satou Kuroneko, who will be assisting both teams: both to safely deconstruct the weapon and ascertain the nature of the poor ghost confined within. My thanks for pulling double duty.
[Ted's solemnity is evidenced by the lack of a single chuckle at the word "duty". He ushered them into the lean-to, where the real work would begin, away from prying eyes.]
I'm afraid I won't be much use to you than a mere host, but please, if you need anything, ask. Once you're ready, I'll employ the empaths first. With some crude Everglade charms--which you're all welcome to improve upon, if you can--, I've constructed a barrier that ought to keep any incorporeal beings from entering or exiting. Please, direct your numinous senses to that sword, and to the pot I've got here.
[Somehow, he produced one in his hands.]
Both contain the sealed spirits that interest us. Tell me what you feel, if anything.
Oh, and in case I've forgotten...I appreciate the help extremely. Would I could grant better thanks than gratitude, and the promise of an interesting evening.

[Despite secrecy or the nature of their work, Arro is wearing a suit, though this one's style is much more indicative of his home, complete with the long jacket rather than a standard blazer and gloves more akin to archery gloves than regular. Making a bow to the rest of the group, he took a moment to survey the entire group, and silently thank Ted for the allowance to discern the nature of his void.
Seeing what everyone else brought to the table would be interesting to analyze as well.]
How does everyone feel about this endeavor?

Oh. And she's just about three feet tall. Someone call CPS!]
Good evening Theodore, everyone. What I will be doing is not simply taking the blade apart piece by piece, but unmaking it entirely - in Eorzea, we call the process Desynthesis. It will be rendered into its component materials, with none of them resembling what you see before you. Because of this, I have made a backup containment vessel based on the original - though the materials I used were somewhat more exotic.
[From a pouch surely too small to have held it, she produces a twin to the sword on the table - though where it is base steel and similar materials, this one has a deep, dark blue sheen to the blade - adamantite - and the handle appears to be made of some kind of bone. Dragon fang. The scabbard is likewise more ornate and made of richer materials, including dragon hide and aurum regis (purple gold) for the fittings. The crossguard of the blade is also made of adamantite, though it has aurum regis accents, and the pommel has a single large blood ruby set in it. She demonstrates the edge through the simple expedient of using the blade to slice through a small ingot of what looks like steel. It cuts the metal like butter.]
I made this also as an example of my skill as a blacksmith, which some have doubted because of my size. If anyone would like to examine it, feel free.

While she definitely arrived on time (lest Ted do something dangerous on his own), she...must have missed the dress code. Her wings fade immediately once her feet touch the ground, but the subtle glow about her is likely to remain for at least the duration of the introductions. Her hair is, at least, swept back from her face into a long graceful ponytail, but the rest of her outfit... well. Skinny jeans, boots, and a well fitted and somewhat too bright blue, entirely backless tank top isn't exactly...inconspicuous. She does, at least, have a rain jacket tossed over her arm as she stands about to listen to the others.
Boasting divinity she may be, but she's really just here to make sure no one is going to get hurt.]
I can also heal if anything goes wrong, [she adds to 'Theodore's introduction.]
[She listens to the other two who speak before her, though her eyes rarely leave the sword laying on the table. She.... doesn't like this. While she's definitely impressed, and offers a small smile at Aeslyn's capable display, she turns her words to the first man, looking....rather skeptical for the Archangel.] Well... I'm definitely glad to be sturdier than I look...
[A vote of confidence? ....perhaps not, but she's there, so it counts. She never did respond to that first message though... and doesn't intend to let this thing hurt any of those gathered here.
She does take a step forward to check out the second sword, clearly impressed.] That's... kind of amazing, actually...

[Even so, Satou is watching Aeslyn carefully. The second sword has also caught her eye, and the blacksmithing skill itself her attention. This is someone she should be learning from later, in order to refine her own skills and magically crafted weapons.
It isn't hard for her to put those thoughts aside and focus on the task at hand. Her black dress and twin-ribboned hair doesn't exactly meet the apparent dress code, but she has laced her frilly clothes with magic for protection.]
My magic allows me to deconstruct items, so I'll do my best to assist. I can try to contain anything dangerous as well, should this go wrong.

[Truth be told, she doesn't know a lot about what's going on, but she can't pretend she isn't curious. Spirit work is something she's had a lot of experience with, and she can definitely feel a strong reiatsu coming from the sword. It arrests her attention the moment Ted points it out, and her smile fades. It feels...strange. Incomplete, somehow. She can't really tell why that is, or what could be missing, so she can only guess that it has something to do with the seal perhaps?]
[She hugs her elbows, frowning pensively. Whatever this spirit is, Ted seems to care about it a lot if he's prioritizing its safety above theirs.]
[At least she's prepared to react. If there's something wrong with the spirit, she might be able to restore it. For now, she stays near the back. The only thing that pulls her attention away from the sword is Aeslyn's comment about 'unmaking' it, because that sounds incredibly familiar. She even starts to open her mouth to ask about it, but...later. They can talk later.]
