[Satou wants to be a good roomie to Ada. She really does. She also wants to be as open-minded as her quirky roommate. Ada's ability to face scary topics with a smile and kindness has awed Satou, and she truly believes learning to be like Ada will make her a better public servant. In Attleton, especially in Everglade, and just in general...!

So she's rented a bunch of horror movies, marathoned them, and scared herself shitless.]

I-I did iiit. I watched them all. The cursed casette tape movie, the haunted house movies, th-the mummy movie, the sw-swamp m-monster in your tub drain m-movie... I-I did it.

Can I put that on my resume? Are there any more that I need to watch? I-I want to be more open-minded and kind to the citizens of Everglade, s-so...!

[Now Satou is a scaredy-cat wreck. Whether she's coming home from movie, buying groceries, or patrolling... Satou is on edge. Not enough to hurt anyone, of course. She watched those movies to become more open-minded and try to understand curses and scarey things, not to learn how to beat them up.

But she's still a teenage girl, and those movies are made to scare kids like her. They've gotten in her head. So when she's encountered on the streets, Satou will squeak in alarm and dart away to hide. Then realize she's being ridiculous.]

I-I'm sorry. Ehehe... C-Can I help you? I'm Detective of Everglade, Volunteer Deputy of Attleton, Magical Girl with no fear K-Kuroneko Satouuu. [and she weakly strikes a pose while holding out her actual glittery pink business card. she's just the image of reliable.]

[Ah, maybe that was too much. Satou sees the lock on the video, but she still locks up her words. Her demeanor becomes more guilty regardless, as she feels bad for how scared she is to tell the truth.]

... I'm just clumsy with my words. [She settles on a partial truth.] It's been so long since anyone normal had a conversation with me. I want to be someone people like, so... accidentally hurting someone... That's something I can avoid if I try, so I should.

Stop by Torchwood Tower. It's really easy to say something that accidentally hurts people, but good people will understand you didn't mean to. My best friend's a bit of a jerk. He's rude on the best of days, and on the worst, just cruel. Accidentally. But he tries hard. And that's why he's got me, because no one can do everything alone.

Didja get a chance to meet Koishi at prom?

Um... What's Torchwood Tower?

... Oh. And yes, I did! Her... empathy? Was... something.

My office building. We specialize in nonhuman relations. We're located in Everglade, of course.

Oh! [Blinks and headshake.] She's not empathic. Koishi has a void instead. It's um... Well, I've found it useful. Easier to sort out what emotions are my own instead of others' when I'm with her. And she can numb things if they get too overwhelming. I try not to do that often, because -- [FACE SCRUNCH.] my two best friends are super psychic, and my home is telepathic too, so it can have wacky ripple effects on 'em, yeah?

But Koishi works at Torchwood too. So does Jack and the Doctors. A lot of non-humans look plenty human, even if they act too wacky to really blend in right. It'll give you some practice. Pretty much everyone in Torchwood has things we're sensitive about, yeah? The first month I was here me and my friends were pretty much yelling and screaming and crying and snoggin'... it was a real mess! [Grins all the same and bites a finger's knuckle.] But that's part of bein' friends. Gettin' past the worst rough patches. And we still have... [Crosses eyes and flails both hands.] Lots. Bwoosh. But... it's fine. The Doctors, Jack, and I, and the others could all use practice in gettin' past our sore spots too. Especially since we all sort of accidentally poke at each others'.

So if you can get used to bein' around Torchwood without losing yourself, you'll handle the rest of the Everglade fine. And you might pick up a thing or two. We're currently working on vegan plasma for vampires, and infusing emotion into flesh. Which sounds way more messed up than it is in practice, I promise. But with vampires, and people working on a haunted house comin' in and out, you'll get the hang of how to figure out which topics are unapproachable. Well. At least better at it. [Another face scrunch.] The Doctor says I'm like one of those yorkie small yappy dogs that gets straight into whatever's messiest in my Mum's yard and digs it all up. But he's the jerkface who got us both exiled for goofin' around. Wellllll okay, that was probably more me than him. But he licked the wall, not me.

Do you have a summer job yet?

W, Well... If it's no trouble then I'd love to meet more people. Work has kept me so busy lately...

[She nods slowly.] Yes, actually. I'm an Detective here in Everglade, and I work as a volunteer Deputy in Attleton. I don't go to school or anything.

[bigbadrose]

[Head tilt.]

Detective? Freelancing or do you have a boss?

I work at the police department here. It keeps me pretty busy, but it’s something I’m good at. But it also means I meet more criminals than not, which is a bummer.

Understandably.

Okay! So this'll be great practice. You probably won't even know if you're talking to human or not at first, so it'll definitely get you some real life experience, and practice, yeah?

And then I can get better at treating everyone equally! The way it should be! That's the kind of detective I want to be, anyway. Fair and kind!
