[It had been some time since Mai made her presence known over the network. Time for her to settle in, so to speak. Adjust to a more peaceful life, where she had a bed to be slept in nightly. Food readily available without having to scavenge. Friends and the closest thing she had to a 'family' nearby. More of whom continued to arrive the longer she was here.]

[Somehow, all of that was stranger to her than the idea of being 'trapped' in an alternate universe.]

I was wondering... [A pause, and she pressed her lips together in thought. Knowing exactly what she wanted to ask, but attempting the most diplomatic means of phrasing her question.] ...if there were any current prevailing theories or ongoing experiments with regards to the means of time travel and inter-dimensional transport that seems to be responsible for bringing so many individuals from so many different worlds and points in time here?

[A conversation that had begun with a select few, and was perhaps more interesting to her at this time than...almost anything else. For all her years as the head commander of Earth's resistance force, her scientific mind had never wavered.]

ACTION

[Mind lost in thought, the (apparently) young woman could be found walking the streets of Genessia later that morning, pausing just long enough to collect herself a copy of the local newspaper.]

[She'd been hearing some very interesting stories about a certain paperboy as of late, and as such, was hesitant to subscribe to the delivery service...but deemed the information located within to be important enough to still seek out each issue. Even if it meant taking a seat on a nearby bench and reading in public, rather in the privacy of the residence she currently shared with Bulma and the others.]

Here we just get some strange things that can affect us mentally. Like change who we are as a person.

[Which could either be fun or not at all depending.]

But mostly we get things like blizzards.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not...but that's not really something I'd tell most people so casually. The fact that there's something strange about this place that can get into our heads like that.

You would think, but it's best to know the world itself can throw out things that can make a good guy evil. So if a friend changes you are then aware of the situation at least.

[A sentiment that was...a little too close to home. So close, in fact, that it not only caused her to frown deeply, but sent an unpleasant chill down her spine. A face flashed in her mind--one of a former enemy, turned friend...turned genocidal nightmare. Even if Goku Black wasn't actually Goku, he'd worn Goku's face.]

We should all hope something like that never happens here. Because if it does...

...I'm not sure the city would survive.

Thankfully so far a city possibly being destroyed has yet to happen. The closest thing we have had is the frozen palace in Fayren when someone took over that.

[He hadn't been involved in that, but he had heard about it.]

A...frozen palace?

[It wasn't impossible for her to imagine something like that--Mai could immediately think of a villainous fortress constructed in some of the coldest parts of the world--but that still sounded like quite the story to be made aware of.]

People got turned into statues or had their hearts frozen from what I could gather. I never really went there in person.

You can potentially get worse, but it also gets better in between.

[So much of this was new to her. And 100% being relayed back to Trunks at their earliest convenience to be entered into his notebook.]

With such possibilities, it's...surprising to hear that so many are so calm about remaining trapped in this world.

I think it's a case of we've gotten used to stuff like that happening and with no way out in sight right away. Not much else one can really do.

[Compliancy. Numb acceptance. Whatever one wished to call it...Mai was neither surprised, nor did she have any urge to follow suit anytime soon.]

Has no one tried to figure out a way to stop it from happening again?

[Even then, that would be something.]

Not sure because I don't know everyone here nor do I talk to everyone here.

I know I can never sense when something is going to happen, so it's not magic based or something we can predict.

You can...sense magic?

Yes. I can usually pinpoint where a magic user can be. But it's not really something I try and do.

Why not?

It does seem like a useful skill. To know such a thing off-hand. Just in case.
