Some Texts [Locked] and Action! (Open unless otherwise stated)

So, my mother is having a party on June 23rd and 24th. It's going to be on the Nova City Islands, and there will be games and prizes. I wanted to invite you to join us as my guest? If you want to come please meet us at the Nova City Docks at 11am on June 23rd.

Trunks has gotten the lay of Nova City pretty well, and a decent start on getting to know and explore Attleton, so time to add Genessia city to his list. He'll be out and about exploring, with particular visits to the Genessia Scientific Research Foundation's lab--mostly to find if they have a head-office, a few shops and parks, and making note of certain locations.

[Action: Genessia Garden Park--Locked to Rose-Tyler]

Trunks hadn't wanted to disrupt Rose's yoga schedule, so he didn't meet her every day to work with her on meditation. But--aside from her recent hermiting because of things--they did try to meet regularly. One such morning finds them in the Garden Park, slightly off (but not too far) off the path by the trees.

[OOC: I figure this is probably like...3rd or 4th lesson for Rose, if that works?]

Oh she'll be fascinated by him, in good ways. The timeline she's from never got as bad as the one I'm from, and before I was born, she and her father were the heads of Capsule Corporation. It was on the cutting edge of tech, with she and grandpa as the primary inventors as well as owners. I'll be glad to introduce you. Most of the people from my world will be there, actually--Mom's trying to get us all in one place, since there are a few of us here now.

You probably remember Mai from when we first both sent out the video when we arrived. If you haven't met her, I'll make sure to introduce you to her too. She was the active leader of the Resistance in our world, I was just muscle and a meat-shield.

That's very interesting, yes, I would like to meet her. You mentioned before that she is a brilliant scientist but I didn't realize she owned a tech company back home.

I will also like to meet the other people from your world. I will return the favor as I am able to.

I talked to Mai after your first video. We had a pleasant conversation, I would like to talk to her again.

Mai and I are the only ones from our 'timeline' here. Everyone else is from an alternate (at least from our perspective) timeline and from different points along it, as it were. I know Mother and Father are from the same point, but from their view, that Mai and I are from. (We'd just left their timeline, when we were pulled here instead of our planned destination.) Goku is further along, as is 17 I think. I know 18's here too, but I'm not sure where on the time-line she's from.

...long story short: multiple time-travel episodes, desperate situations, changed one timeline for the better while the other timeline (mine) didn't change. It gets complicated after that.

In any case, the timeline Mother and Father and Goku are from is...relatively more peaceful, compared to what mine and Mai's was like. So Capsule Corp remained prosperous and on the cutting edge of things.

Seriously, my family is a bit...different. Anything in particular I can warn you about? Besides my Father, that is. He has a temper, and is very very prideful and arrogant. Unless he's being stupid and let's his ego get the better of him, he can back up that arrogance and pride easily.

Mai and Mother are probably the most 'normal' of all of us...

All these different origin points in the timeline must make for a very interesting situation, to put it mildly.

Complicated is putting it mildly.

[ They've had enough trouble with their own timeline and universes problems, he really wouldn't want to be dealing with any of that to the extent as Trunks is. Untangling such webs he will gladly leave to the more mystically inclined. ]

The father, it's noted. I will be cautious around him and instruct K-2SO to do the same. We're not interested in causing an incident. For what it's worth, I'm usually pretty good at dealing with difficult people.

Less so at other times, but I have plenty of experience trying to keep things from turning violent. It's a necessary skill when you have to enforce the law in a place where most of the people you are telling "no" could squish you like a bug.

I can explain in person sometime, if it'd help. Or try to. With diagrams. Our situation isn't as complicated as it might appear at first. Besides, I've had to learn to make sense of it, given time-travel.

On the subject though, first--Mother is already well aware of what Father is like, and hopefully he'll just be grumpily stand-offish for the most part. If you need to, don't hesitate to grab me, or Mai to to help. Mai is amazing at dealing with people, including father. Secondly, I've seen the coliseum in Attleton; it's not to my tastes per se, but it is necessary--and I might need to use it for my father... Any idea just how much and what levels of punishment it can contain?

Also, I'm not busy, if a video'd be easier than the texting. Might be easier to answer any questions you have too.

[ Like requested, Casssian moves the conversation to video, showing up on the screen to the background of what looks to be an Attleton backyard. There's a perfectly manicured lawn and a small pond in the background - and the usual screeching and shrieking of a bunch of bored pokemon all in one place. ]

Standoffish I can handle. I can handle murderous, too, for the most part, but I would rather not if there's no need for it.

As for the Colosseum... [ He frowns slightly. ] It's withstood everything it has faced so far. I've never heard of it failing, but I'll ask around with Deputy Dante, who has been in Attleton longer than I. What destructive capability are we talking here?

[Trunks is actually in a common room in the apartment, with some paper and notes spread out. Propping up the device so he can chat while having his hands free.]

I'm pretty sure Father's no longer murderous, so long as there's no need for it.

I met Dante, that was actually part of the de-escalation I mentioned.

[There's a sigh, and Trunks is raking a hand through his bangs.]

So, to start with--Father's not human. Nor an Earthling, although Earth is his home now. He's one of the last two known-members of a race known as Saiyans. Warriors, extremely adaptable and durable. I've been told Frieza has been here before--if you remember him. He basically enslaved the race and used them to conquer other planets, exterminating the current inhabitants so the planet was 'clean'. He's also responsible for wiping them out, given they were a 'threat'. Father was kind of...

[Pausing, and trying to think of the way to explain it.]

I suppose the best way is think of him as a hostage, so his father would cooperate. Freiza still wiped out the rest of the Saiyans, and the only ones who survived were off-world. And then eventually it's just Goku, and father.

So, we're talking major destructive capability. I'm pretty sure, if I'm remembering it right, mom and Goku met Father first when he and his partner Nappa came to Earth, to basically do what Freiza had had them do to countless other planets.

[ Not human. Cassian nods, piecing it together with what he has learned both directly from Trunks and from sharing with Kay, more little puzzle pieces to add to the mental files he is keeping. Yet he finds himself quickly distracted by the explanation on Frieza - it doesn't even hit that close to home, objectively speaking, yet it still feels like a close hit, at least paired with all the other ways in which he has seen something of himself reflected in Trunks.

His expression turns carefully neutral to hide that discomfort, the memories welling up, lips pressed together. There's information to be had. This is what he needs to focus on, especially when he is learning about a major threat who may return. ]

Major destructive capability, you say. I have seen your speed. I take it yours is only a fraction of your father's, and that Freiza... As these things go, I'm assuming he is stronger yet.

[ Better to think of it only in terms of threat levels and statistics, not of the destruction in another universe. So much destruction... ]

I'll give you more of a history lesson when I can later, but Frieza is gone in both versions of my world's timeline. Dead and killed before I was born.

[Pausing, thinking for a moment, on how to phrase stuff. Also back to the tour, and his stopping the thief.]

It's hard to quantify; I wouldn't put what you saw at a fraction, because that is about as fast as some of the fights and training goes, regularly. Depending on the circumstances, it can be faster.

[Bringing a hand up to his mouth in thought, chewing on a nail while he tries to think of how to quantify it in ways Cassian'd understand. Clear that he is giving this his attention.]

Probably best to give you an example... [Murmured almost to himself, before addressing the video again.]

So Mai and I were most recently, before being kidnapped, in the alternate time-line. The one everyone else is from, that is relatively more peaceful right? That's because the one Mai and I are from is gone, destroyed entirely--long story. The relevant point is that I was in the alternate timeline at a few points, getting help for my own.

One of those points, Father decided to train me. Or test me. Really it was kind of both?

[All as if this was entirely normal, and with a bit of a 'resigned' laugh.]

It's a bit difficult without showing you, and that'd draw a lot of attention, but I'll try to explain. Saiyans have a way of essentially powering up past their base capabilities. I can, Father can, Goku can. Then there are levels beyond that basic power up. Recently, somehow Father and Goku acquired levels of this beyond what I knew.

To give me a chance I had to land just one hit on him, during training. We were in the forest on the edge of West City and still on Capsule Corp grounds. I almost managed to land a hit right away, then got kind of pummeled for...

[Head tilting, obviously he's trying to calculate the distance]

...about a kilometer into the side of a small mountain. Knocked the wind out of me as well as out of my own transformation. Then I got chewed out and scolded, and only finally managed to actually land a hit because Father powered down. And wasn't expecting the head-butt.

[There might be a hint of shy pride and hints of satisfaction in his tone, with a small smile.]

[ That... is a lot to take in.

His facial expression remains carefully measured to show interest - too carefully, maybe, too blank, not to betray it as a mere facade - but no more than that, even as his mind begins to calculate the damage people with such powers could do to suburban Attleton if they took their fighting there. Yes, he finds himself suddenly quite glad that they live in Nova City. ]

I don't advise you go full power on the Colosseum until I have that double-checked.

[ His tone of voice is as bland as his face. And then, because he will always think of worst-case scenarios first. ]

Your enemies have these powers, too. [ Not a question. Because of course they would. That's how their luck goes. ]

[Cassian ia good---and Trunks isn't as observant as Mai is. But he can recognize that the other man is wearing a poker face.]

Not what you were expecting, huh? Sorry about that.

[Trunks is genuine in that; he really didnt mean to put the other off-balance.]

Our enemies do, but they aren't here. Or rather, one is--but if he makes trouble he'll have about 5 of us ready to squash him like the bug he is.

Mai and I though...we...spent the last year fighting to protect what's left of humanity from an enemy like this. I wasn't strong enough on my own, either. It's why I went to the past for help.

Hmm... [ It's not as reassuring as Trunks might have intended it to be, just because he's come to terms with it that it's his job to nudge more powerful people into place to fight the important battles doesn't mean he has to like it. But it is a fact, one he's had a year to come to terms with, so he forces himself to shrug it off and move on. ]

Well, as long as there are people here who will fight any who pose a threat. Whoever poses a threat. It will have to be dealt with when the time comes.

But no, I wasn't expecting it. I'm sure you understand that as a Guardian, it's not the news I hope to hear. But it is as it is.

[ They'll just have to account for one more group of superpowered people in their plans. At least this group seems neither hostile nor eager to cause destruction for destruction's sake. ]

If you choose to come to our gathering today, it might give you an opportunity to speak to others like you and Mai.

[Blinks, huh? But the smile remains.]

No, I completely understand your position as Guardian.

[Pausing again, tapping his pencil for a few seconds.]

Depending on the threat, not just our enemy, but what the threats are, you'll likely have 5 of us ready to squash it anyways, not counting Mai who'll fight and strategize and do her best, or Mom who's also used to being a strategist and inventor. I've lived my whole life defending others, so I...do not take threats kindly.

Goku can be childish, but also does not take actual threats kindly. Father is more mercurial, but he hates when someone thinks and acts like they're better than he is. He IS also more protective than he lets on.

On the subject though--I won't like it, but I also AM more than willing to fight my own family, if the need is great enough.

[Slightly grim there, and a bit lower voiced.]

It...came up in my past before. Father was being goaded and not thinking as strategically, and I had to go against him to make a point.

[Said point might have involved blasting him with Ki when Vegeta thought Trunks wouldn't actually do it... Vegeta learned otherwise. Then back to a more thoughtful and normal conversational tone.]

I can't speak well for 17 and 18 just because I don't know this version of them well, but I think they'd help too. They're part of the '5' I keep mentioning.

As a guardian, although also as a friend, what else can I answer for you?

Remember that rebel gathering last month? I've been thinking that we should get something like that going more often. Maybe not regularly, but every now and then... It's a good way to connect and keep up with people's lives.

[ Both to make connections, or just see who needs a closer eye to keep on.

He inclines his head slightly. ]

I thank you for the information on your companions. I promise, I will take all you have told me into consideration when I meet them, whether as Guardian or at the party or in some other capacity. I do want us to have good relations, I hope for them.

[ He's usually pretty good at dealing even with difficult people so... Yeah, not too concerned. But more intelligence is always valuable, even on friends. ]

I believe you have answered my questions well for now. [ He smiles a little. ] I feel well-prepared for meeting your family.

Huh, that might be nice.

[A nod, and a genuine smile.]

I think it'll be fine, honestly. For the most part. Our world was a backwater in terms of the galaxy, but has attracted some very bad luck over the years. Also some good luck--and if it helps, we weren't actually that 'common' back home. It is normal to me, only because I was in the center. We were the exception, more than the rule, in terms of abilities.

If you want a demonstration too, I promise not to break the coliseum, and can give you enough of an idea in person without going all out. I usually keep my own ability 'masked', as it were. I've had to learn to hide.

Well, at least it's going to be nice to be in the company of people from spacefaring civilizations, who are familiar with life from different planets. There aren't too many of these here.

And I'm not going to ask you for a demonstration as such, but if you're going to have a duel or training there? I would love to watch.

Not everyone on Earth is, but out smaller group is. We're also kind of the exception in a lot of ways, in terms of martial arts capabilities and technology as well. I sometimes have to remember what 'normal' is for others isn't quite the same as 'normal' was for me. Even before throwing in the homicidal androids and rebuilding and time travel and genocidal god.

If we can find a way to keep you safe then sure. I'm not too worried, but it's still something to keep in mind.

Yes, of course, I'm not going to endanger myself recklessly, or take away from your training experience to hold back on my behalf. We can see how or if it's doable when the time comes. If it's too dangerous to watch right there, maybe a video?
