[Any attempts at seriousness are ruined when there's a yelp, a shout of] Galantea! Get back here right now! [and then there's a Sylveon wearing a tiny tuxedo throwing herself at Kay smugly crowing Sylveon! Sylveon! Cassian appears a moment later, plucking her from Kay’s shoulder. If you look closely, you can see a matching wedding ring on Cassian’s hand, worn along with the gunmetal-grey ring made of Kay’s frame he’s been wearing since Christmas.]

That’s it, you’ve been wearing this tux since the wedding. Enough now. [For his troubles, he gets his cheek licked– slowly and slobbery and with great relish. He finally notices the phone in Kay’s hand.] If you’re going to announce it, you might as well tell them we’ll be unavailable for our honeymoon.

Oh right...Cassian and i got married. It's when two partners formally recognized their union. Depends on the culture but usually rings are exchanged to symbolize it and to make it easier for other peopel to know someone's taken.

[As of now, the only way others would know that Shayla is taken is when Qubine beats the shit out of those who mess with her.]

I think humans and other humanoids species are the only ones who formalize things that way. Most of other races across the galaxy doesn't do this. Must be a cultural thing.

How can you tell when a dragon has a partner?

[He pauses for a moment. It isn't something he's ever thought about before.]

We...don't really have a way to tell, other than declaring it verbally. The dragons within my clan already know who has a partner. In fact, our matriarch actively searches for mates for those who don't already have one.

Oh! I see. Some societies do that, but is not the matriarch who does it. Not always at least, they call them matchmakers.

She does like to play matchmaker. It's always been her goal, each dragon in her clan to live in happiness with their mate, and also to make each dragon beautiful.

It's only the most recent match that the matriarch made that hasn't gone as well...yet. So I can safely say that she's good at what she does...

As for the last match? The mate that was brought home was Pelindar, who turned out to be a narcissist. The matriarch, Usha, had introduced him as a mate for Rafadel. Pelindar initially rejected Rafadel because she was a Plague dragon, a Fae dragon, and had experience in combat. However, I promptly showed Pelindar the error of his views regarding all warriors as savages. So we'll see what happens from here...

Yes, Fayren is a pleasant place. It seems to fit us dragons more than any of the other cities.

She sure does. She's already ashamed of being a Plague dragon as it is, so Pelindar's prejudice didn't help matters.

I do have a question - What is a "honeymoon?"

Marriage? Oh. [ He looks down at his ring. ] It's when you formalize your relationship, making it legally binding with rights and obligations for both partners. The ring is an outward symbol of our commitment. It differs from culture to culture, but for us it means we promise to take no other partners in the future.

A promise to take no other partners, hmm? That's interesting...

[Some dragons have had better luck with that than others.]

Yes. It's more relevant for people who will have and raise children together but it's still a choice we have made... one with different implications here, I guess.

Ah...raising hatchlings is definitely different in my world. At least when I was first raising my clan, I've had the dragons mate out of necessity. Sometimes it took more than one mate to decide that they wanted to unite in that manner...

I'm sure it's like that on many planets in my galaxy, too. Kay and I are unusual even by the standards of my people, really. We already shared responsibilities like having a family together before we entered a relationship.

...I see. Do you plan on raising...children?

[ Aaaaand there will be no words, just a choking fit as the smooth spy is very-unsmoothly choking on his own spit. ]

He can not have children in our own because we are not compatible like that. [ There's a pause and then Kay adds; ] Cassian doesn't have an uterus.

I...see. Well, the children you raise don't have to be biologically yours. You could adopt orphans. Quite a few dragons in my clan came from abandoned eggs.

Oh, we know. [Kay waves a hand around, as it to poitn at their 2 dozen pets.] So far so good, we're fine in that regard.

Demyx and Sonico also live with us.
