So I'm going with Everglade PD. If they'll have me. But I'm stocking up on specialized bullets, just in case. And taking a bounty. -- Which is really weird to say. Don't worry, I'm not going Dog the Bounty Hunter, if anyone knows who that is.
Anyway, I'm taking recommendations on firearms, and specifically, anti-magic bullets. What is there that combats superpowers? Anything? And what's the normal defense against such things?
Oh annnnnd to all the Doctors and healers that helped first day, tha-- [Wow he can't even get the word out. WHY IS IT SO HARD?]

He's not even old enough to use the terms he is, they were outdated even when he was young. Save him.] I need some help testing it again for a bigger thing, though. You know. No big deal. Order Carver - Martha - Ten - Chrysalis
However, does give Chrysalis a hearts filled hug back]
Good to see you as well.
[Then turns his attention to his face]
Glad you came, Detective.
[Yes, Detective. The Doctor can smell the rise in your testosterone- and doesn't understand why exactly. Chrysalis loves you deeply and he has his Rose.]
[He is glad that Emmett didn't get jumped by anything on the way. When everyone is done - Ten is just gonna lead them to his office where The Tardis is]

[She whispers it in the hug just for the Doctor before letting go and turning her attention to Martha. Chrysalis offers one of her best smiles as she takes the offered hand in a handshake.]
Nice to like meet you, Martha. Or should I like just say Dr. Jones? Thank you both for like taking some time to attend to us.
[She will return to Carver's side -and his hand- right after, remaining there even as they go to the Doctor's office. She says nothing more for now as it was Carver who set this up and she assumes the doctors will decide how to do it and instruct them as needed.]

[Although the artificial grass, the tree bookshelf, the lab equipment...]
[The plants make it seem almost like a jungle more than a lab. Then again. Was that blood being made?]
[What did he walk into?]
[He's closing his eyes, focusing on the plants, thinking of Hot Fuzz.]
Right. So how do we do this?
[Oh, right. It was his idea.] Usually -- [Falters. Doctors hated it when you acted like you knew what was going on better than them. Especially if you were just parroting back what other Doctors told you in the first place. Then again, did he care if they hated it?]
[Extra gruff and growly, and a teensy bit hoarse, but pretending not to be the slightest bit worried for Chrysalis' sake.] My heart arrhythmia acts up from too much stress. Too much electricity. Not weakened, just over does it. Pacemaker and I guess the meds act as a control. But Chrysalis feeds on... I don't completely know what. The injections are to slow it down. Were to slow it down. Pacemaker would have been for the same. And I still want to do my job with the Everglade police.
[Arm fold. His gun's still in its holster, and just because he almost never uses it doesn't mean he'll give it up easily. So not going to mention having it taken from him over the blackouts. Either they can figure that out themselves, or not.]
I haven't had a blackout here... or heart attack yet. I haven't tried to run anywhere either. That's... usually the worst of it. Running sends it into complete overdrive. Like it's trying to pump blood for two men. [Huff.] But how much is the pills, a magic heron's effects, or Chrysalis' is anyone's guess. And like I said, I haven't tried running yet. The one time I came closest, Chrysalis sat on me so I wouldn't get killed. [The soft grin he gives her is pretty much a 180 degree polar opposite shift from the rest of him. His baby succubus <3 Looking out for his thick skull. Even if he still bought Mariko a bunny plushie that is likely to be taken apart. Gotta start somewhere?]

Thank you, Carver. I may have more questions for you in a bit.
[ She gestured to Chrysalis ]
Can you explain what it is you're doing and what you feed on? While it's his heart we'll be monitoring for the test, I'd also like to make sure it's safe for you. No point healing one patient only to gain another, yeah?
[ And then a glance at the Doctor ] We may as well walk and talk on the way to the TARDIS.

Chrysalis feeds on secondary life energy - so - [Ten pops his mouth and also opens the Police Box] in theory - it's possible that the extra discharge from Detective's heart could be stabilized by just having her around.
[Upon entering the Tardis; Emmett and Chrysalis will feel that there's something alive - and Chrysalis will probably feel that when getting nearer the Police Box from the outside. The main room is not only bigger on the inside but also steampunk.]
[As The Doctor leads them through the console room and towards the medical bay]
Keep close so you don't get lost.
[And when The Doctor gets to the medical bay - pulls out a human heart that is pumping blood in some kind of complicated box that has blood and veins.]
Or
We could give Detective another heart. Rather than trying to drug him and fight against what his body wants to do naturally, which is creating extra electric impulses that is the equivalent to two hearts.
no subject
To be like maybe a bit more precise, I feed on the soft electric energy that like any living being produces upon staying alive. Like, there's the life energy which like it absolute vital for you, and like affects aging and such. And then there's like that secondary life energy which only exists while you live? One of the general side effects of me feeding may be like being tired and out of breath, but it's an energy that you guys will like recover in a matter of hours tops. So long that I like, don't take more than what your body can like generate in which case, well, you die.
And I can like control how much I take so it's not as if like just by touching I'm feeding. It's really like you with your bodies, I mean humans can like put things on their mouths or even swallow them, but like it's not until it's in their stomachs and they start to digest that the food really feeds them.
[She stops in her tracks as they're about to enter the Police Box, frowning and looking at the box. She hadn't noticed at first, thinking that all the energy she noticed was from the plants and the other three, specially the Doctor. But she can tell now and she can't help to hesitate to enter, and even when she does she makes sure to stick close to Carver and eyes the Tardis suspiciously.]
Ehm, Doctor, just to like be sure... Do you like know that your box is alive?
[She has no questions about the bigger on the inside bit though. But she can't help to get suspicious when entering a room, or building, that is actually alive.]
no subject
[There is not enough mental nope for Carver.]
[He knew the box was weird.]
[He knew it was not a normal phone booth, but no.]
[This is not okay.]
[He BARELY catches what the Doctor said, and something about a second heart? WHAT?]
[And then Chrysalis...]
[It's a living box.]
[If someone doesn't grab him he's leaving.]

Martha turns her head to catch Chrysalis's gaze. "Your partner trusts the Doctor. So far, you trust me." Help me out, here, Chrysalis. He trusts you most of all.
The glare she turns on the doctor is fresh and fierce. "You should have told me about the heart, Doctor. I'd have told you no. You don't start with with transplant surgery. Opening a man's chest, cracking his ribs, even without a major surgery that requires cutting and clamping major arteries--it's a risk you don't take without knowing it's necessary. And frankly, it's not a surgery I'd undertake without a cardio-thoracic surgeon."
If she sounds narky, she damn well is. He's not a doctor, and he needs to stop acting like one.
no subject
Yes. I do. She won't harm you. Any of you.
[With an undertone of 'trust him']
[Then over at Martha]
I have his DNA. That's how I was able to make his pills. Chrysalis - might be an option.
Thar aren't many choices for a heart producing electronic pulse outputs enough for two hearts.
We either fight it; absorb it or go with it. But we can't correct his genetics.
no subject
[She doesn't let go anyway and pretty much clings to his arm, opposite of where Martha is.]
She's right, Carver, we should like take this as a mystery to understand. And like it's safe, I don't like sense any threat from her and like the Doctor has confirmed it too.
It will be fine and like we both need this. I need to know like for sure that I don't like hurt you with this.
[Because even if his heart produces more energy and she absorbs the excess and thus all seems fine... She's not so sure that it can't cause other problems. Which is why she wants them to do tests and monitor it.]
[She looks at the Doctor and then at Martha.]
What about pacemaker? Though like, personally I would rather like avoid him going through surgery here. But like that is his choice... Though I like dont' think he has become a fan of that.
no subject
[Treat it as a puzzle. Fine. Engage curiosity... fine. Honestly, he's not sure how much he trusts the Doctor with no name, definitely trusts Doctor Jones more, not the least of which is because she's human and seems annoyed with the alien doing alien things.]
[He glances around at the ship. He'll stay for Chrysalis. So she doesn't have to fear anything. He can be a man for that.]
Hello ship. What's her name?
[If she's alive it's only polite to say hello while standing inside of her.]
[Seriously, he would like to run. Okay. Breathing. Breathing good.]
I'm not getting a pacemaker without Julienne. I was only going to do it for her in the first place. And the second heart is... intriguing? [AND MASSIVELY WTF. IS THAT A THING? A THING PEOPLE CAN DO?]
[But what Doctor Jones says...]
But I'm not big on the recovery time. I'm guessing it'd be worse than just a pacemaker? And six weeks is way too long. I don't like six hours of not working.
[All right, people watching be damned. He moves Chrysalis to the front of him, leaning over her with both arms in a hug, letting her be a temporary shield of his sanity. It doesn't last long, but just long enough that she knows he's protecting her too, and only here for her sake. He doesn't have enough self preservation to care about his own health to be honest.]
no subject
[ She needs to understand his resistance to the pacemaker, and it isn't going to happen with all of this noise. To Carver, she says]
Open heart surgery is a bad option right now. Give me a few minutes, yeah? You and I can talk about your choices and your priorities.
no subject
Sure.
Fine.
[HE MIGHT BE A LITTLE TENSE. YANNO. But he agrees that stupidly long recovery time is a big thing, and also... second heart. WELP.]
[ALTHOUGH How cool would it be to BE the Bionic Man?]
[OR ROBOCOP?!]
[Without the dying and multiple surgeries it would take though.]
no subject
[Which the ship might say hello as she does in her way to Cavier]
In the meantime - why we're here and that's to measure Chrysalis's input with her ability and to see if that's an option.
[As The Doctor seems to be digging through various and foreign medical tools. Which are either from a far-off future in human history or alien or both. Before taking out a device that looks more like a tracking device than medical. Then looking over at Chrysalis]
If you could relax, that would be great.
no subject
[As Martha asks for no interruptions, Chrysalis leaves Carver's side a little, focusing on the Doctor instead and looking at the device he takes curiously.]
[Arching an eyebrow at the request.]
Depends on which way you're asking me to relax.
[A chuckle but she is quite relaxed already.]
What else do you need from me?
so sorry! this got buried in my inbox. ;_;
She stopped and then walked back around Carver so that he would be both facing her and able to see past her to his partner. It wasn't a blooming stretch to know he'd be more comfortable if he could make eye contact with her. ]
All right, then. You've said repeatedly you don't want a pacemaker, but from a medical perspective, it's the correct option. The surgery itself is minimal by comparison to an open-heart procedure. It allows for distance monitoring and regulation, which could save your life in a crisis. And while you'd still need medication, you'd need significantly less of it.
As your doctor, I can only advise you on what's possible. The choices are yours and I'll work with you to make sure that whatever path you choose, you do so as safely as possible. But to do that, I need to understand what your priorities are, here. I'm not challenging you, you understand. Just talk to me about what you want.
ahahahaah ENJOY YOUR EMBARRASSMENT IN REVENGE
[BUT THE SMILE FADES INSTANTLY TO A FROWN AND SCOWL.]
[He's LISTENING... but....]
I only was going to do a pacemaker for my daughter's sake. She's not here. [Rubs the back of his neck in thought.] I-- yeah six weeks is... a lot. Too much right now. Definitely.
[Shakes his head, eyes closed. What he wants.] I want to -- do my job. Work. Be a detective. I checked myself out of the hospital every time they checked me in and that only happened when I dropped unconscious. [Small scowl and clenches teeth, he hates admitting that.] So six weeks is... maybe later. Because two hearts, even if I die from it, I could just exchange one to live again, right? But if it works then I'd be able to do my job a lot better.
[Arm fold.]
[Doctor.]
[Professional.]
[He could totally tell her his stuff with Chrysalis.... right?]
[Could.]
[Can't.]
[Won't.]
[STUBBORN.]
[STUBBORN AF.]
[He glances over at Chrysalis and the Doctor, resisting an urge to football tackle the other Doctor and prove he was the better face. Yes.]
If... she does eat the electricity that the pacemaker would inhibit... then I wouldn't be able to feed her, right? Or at least not as well? And... [Deep breath, SCARLET CHEEKED and rubs the back of his neck.] we've been safe so far in sex. [LALALA SO RED OH HIS GOD HE'LL DIE.] Not sure that would continue.
I hadn't... [AWKWARD COUGH NOT LOOKING AT HER.] done much even with my ex-wife since it started, so I don't have much else to compare it to. [DROPS HIS VOICE TO A NEAR WHISPER.] Only other woman I had a shot with turned me down because she was worried about it, and until then, I didn't even think of how it might affect... performance.
Re: His embarrassment. Martha's just gonna do professionalism here, kthnx ;)
She listens until Carver has brought himself to a close and then nods once. ]
All right. You want to do your job, you want to continue to supply Chrysalis with electricity, and you'd like to have a normal sex life for a man your age. These are all understandable concerns, and with appropriate medications and monitoring, you should be able to have most of that.
[ She can't say that feeding a succubus is a normal concern, but she's spent enough time around non-humans to know she can't apply human values to things outside her experience, even if he's human. What she also knows from listening is that Carver is motivated by love -- for his daughter, and now for his partner. The best way to get him on board is going to be to keep Chrysalis's well-being in mind. ]
Based on what you've told me, I believe we should begin by understanding how Chrysalis feeds and what effect it has on you. This may require more than a simple test, including some journal-keeping on your part. It may be somewhat awkward and uncomfortable, but if we discover that its a mutually beneficial symbiosis, then we can dispense with some of the more drastic solutions, yeah?
And if we discover otherwise, we can consider a pacemaker or a transplant. I'm reluctant to add a second heart because your symptom isn't designed for it. It may regulate the electrical impulses but it would also increase blood supply and have unknown effects on other organs. Despite the Doctor's considerable expertise in scientific matters, he isn't a zenobiologist or a cardiothoracic surgeon. If you're serious about this option, I'd like to make a study of it and talk to several other doctors before undertaking it.
