OPEN AUDITIONS

A magnificent chandelier hangs overhead, casting the theatre in warm, golden light as it dominates the space...

Throughout Theatre, casting signs could be seen posted here and there to guide those auditioning to the stage along with their guests, should they have brought one or two- anything beyond that would be politely turned away. Once backstage, they would be greeted by a staff member, pen and clipboard in hand and a table nearby on which to collect resumes and headshots. Musical accompaniment is, of course, provided if needed, and the sheet music for the individual’s chosen pieces can be left with the pianist stationed just off to the left.

There are a few moments to mingle (or warm up, should they not be socially inclined) before the actual auditions are to begin and a rather expensive looking couple takes the stage to greet the pool of collected talent… and shoo those accompanying them to the middle rows of the auditorium.

“Ah, hello! Good afternoon, everyone, and thank you all for your interest. Let’s go ahead and dive right in, shall we?” He rubs his hands together as he waits for the check-in list, flipping through the first two pages, then addressing everyone one more.

“As noted in the original casting call, we will be doing things a little unconventionally this afternoon. For those of you familiar with this particular production, you know there are quite a few duets scattered throughout. With that in mind, once our initial cut has been made after your solo performances, we will be pairing you up for a second exercise, just to feel out the balances and chemistry within our potential cast.”

The woman steps up beside him and gives them all a bright smile as she clasps her hands together before her. “Do remember- keep your head up, truly feel your piece, and… please project. While we do have the technology these days to aid you, we’d love to hear you truly give it your all and this is a musical about an Opera.”

Seems like that might be a bit of an inside joke with the stagehands that have collected along the perimeter of the stage, particularly punctuated by the few staff members that have taken up post at the back of the auditorium and are now giving them all a thumbs ups and waves.

“Break a leg.”

Each character will have received an audition packet either through their agent (for those affiliated with Fama Talent Agency) or through their own pursuit a week or two in advance. Inside the packet there are call times, the requirements for each roll, a rough schedule of rehearsals for the next two months, and sheet music for a pre-selected song the casting director would like to hear, depending on which role the character shows interest in. They will, however, be asked to sing a song of their own choosing first.

While most of the lead roles have been predetermined oocly, feel free to have your character audition anyway! Phantom has a rather large cast, and we’re definitely looking to make this a fun event for everyone in the long run! If you have something specific in mind, hmu up on plurk (@dovefire) or Dove’s journal. Even if you choose not to have your character make the cut, there’s still the gala and opening night to look forward to! Keep in mind that this is a professional production and the characters will be ICly treated as such.

Feel free to ‘interact’ with each character’s performance (reactions are highly encouraged), though do know that any heckling that disturbs the audition will not be tolerated (unless it’s totally cool with the mun..then go wild.)

Yep, both brows are raised.

"Wow... Either you've changed your ways or I am a terrible judge of character..."

He chuckled in response. "I'm sure many would tell you the second option. But to be quite fair, I can be an asshole."

"Can't most men, though?" she quips, rolling her eyes fondly. She's still not believing him wholeheartedly, but... she might be able to agree with that much.

"Nah, I'm a special brand apparently as I'm sure my brother would tell you."

"...indeed."

Special brand indeed.

She shakes her head at him, trying not to laugh. This is the most easygoing she's seen him, and it's... kind of nice.

"So what does a lady have to do to keep you in such a good mood?"

Well, good mood was a difficult term for it. He was always mourning his family, but this was certainly a better day then others.

"I can promise nothing I'm afraid, my lady." There he went being polite again.

"Drat, I knew it wouldn't be easy..."

The last time he had 'made no promises' he had ended up rescuing her from the ocean, though.

There's a pause as she narrows her eyes at her tea, then gives him a look.
"Nothing that's worth it ever really is though, right?"

Challenge accepted.

Excuse him, but he is not meant to be a challenge dammit, and part of him suspected that she was seeing him that way now. What was it with people always wanting to pull him out of his misery? For now though, he merely raised a brow at her.

"Do you wish for me to attend so badly?

A stubborn man would forever be a challenge.

She blinks at him a moment, surprised, but lights up a little. "You want to come to the auditions?"

[Not really, but then again, he actually liked plays so he supposed he could give her this one. He even sighs.]

Fine, I'll come if it'll make you happy.

[But only because she was his friend and.....looked so much like Beth. He really couldn't turn her down.]

Now it's her turn to raise a brow, but she's still smiling regardless.

"Really had to twist your arm, didn't I?"

There's a beep from her phone, and she looks away from him for a moment to assess whatever's on the screen, then drops it on her bag again. "We should probably head that way, if you really do want to come." She's not going to force him to do anything, but it had been his idea, and he's in a good mood. And, oddly enough, he did seem like the type that might enjoy it. Free entertainment was never a bad thing, right? "I've got to check in with the casting director beforehand."

"Apparently." He replies before motioning her to lead the way.

"At least we're not resorting to pitiful selfies this time," she snorts, turning to lead him out of the shop and head up the street. "I take it you've seen a play or two in your time?"

Ancient Greece? Come on.

"A time or two, yes. It was always more peaceful then home." He remembered his brother had been enjoying the same kinds of plays, and even more how they both used to sneak in just for that moment of peace they both needed. Styxx had even disguised himself, not liking the fanfare when he sat in the royal box.

She relaxes a little and drops the last little edge of her professionalism as she looks over at him. Theatre was always a great escape for most, but given what she knew of his childhood...

"Which plays? Any chance they've survived the ages?" She knows a few, but admittedly she's not sure how far back they really go.

He names a few off for her, but none of them are plays that she would know. All the ones that had existed during his time had been destroyed when Apollymi went on her rampage.

"I'm sure none of them have survived. The world kind of had a reset of sorts after my time."

She just shakes her head at each one, unfamiliar with each. "That's a shame. Were they all tragedies like the ones we have now, or did you get your sprinkling of comedies and satyr as well?"

A reset? Hm... noted for later.

"There were always a mix of play types. Never all the same."

"So you didn't have to suffer through Oedipus the King a million times in school like I did?"

Yuck.

"Uh, no." A simple answer it seemed. Though he sounded like he would have rather suffered through that when he was growing up then his actual life.

She laughs.

"Lysistrata was much better."

...She might be a little biased.

"I can only take your word for it."

She looks up at him again, then takes a sip of her tea. "I wonder if the library here has them... Though if I'm truly honest with you, I really prefer the Iliad and Odyssey, but they're more epic poems than play."

She makes a face to herself and stifles a laugh. "You didn't know Achilles, did you? Or of Helen of Troy?" How true is the story-

He actually chuckled. "No, I was trapped on a vanishing isle during that time, so I missed a lot of those events." He'd been asked by others before though and it had at least been explained to him.

"Vanishing Isle?"
