After hearing a bit about Torchwood from the kelpie and having been there - Newt liked the idea of the restaurant giving creatures like a kelpie an alternate choice to eating others like Newt. Taking Albus and Tina with him, and the briefcase and Bowtruckle sticking out of his shirt coat pocket.

"Excuse me. Who's in charge here?"

"Which one? Doctor, that is. There are 3 who it could apply to, but only two who seem to fight over the name." It's a firm and friendly shake, matching Trunks' expression and demeanor. "Right now I'm tinkering. Maybe Rose'll find it useful, maybe she won't. I have my Mother's notes though, which means at least the hard part of figuring out and inventing is done."

Definitely some circuit boards, although the computer has moved into a screen-saver mode by now. "I'm Trunks. Not entirely sure what Rose has me on the payroll for, besides being a meat-shield and defender if needed. She seems to collect people, and then figure out uses for them."

"That's what she did to me," Doc laughed, shaking his head. I think I'm meant to be some kind of liason and inventing assistant. I work with the brown spiky haired one. He's.. Interesting."

He angled his head for a better look. "Bit a meat shield is a strange task for this organization."

"You'd think so, but here in Genessia and its surrounding cities?" Trunks gave a shrug, not bothered by the question. "Besides, I do a lot more than that--even if that's what Rose likes teasing me most about."

A hand reaching up and scratching at his neck, with a faint flush of embarrassment.

"I tinker though, I'm familiar with urban scavenging and survival, I grew up around mechanics and computers enough that programming and engineering is almost a second language. Except I didn't inherit my mother or grandfather's inventing-genius. Which I'm alright with, honestly, as my life turned out very different from theirs."

Doc flashed him an answering smile. "It's far better to be well-rounded, I believe. I may be an inventor, but I'm good for little else."

He grinned and shook his head. "Of course...if there's ever anything that may need a second hand, I'd be glad to assist."

"I doubt that's true. Although I'd love to pick your brain and compare notes." A friendly grin, because Trunks would be nice about it. And he really was interested in talking more. "If nothing else, I'd like to hear about where you're from, and how you arrived here. I'm taking notes and gathering more data. See what commonalities I can find."

"Also, as much as I joke about it, I'm pretty sure I am here as a defender and protector type, among other things. If you get in trouble or need a hand, feel free to call me okay?"

Doc could provide him that much. "Earth, California, 1985. Most people are familiar with that, but not all, of course. And is it really so dangerous?"

That was cause to worry. He wasn't entirely unfamiliar with defending himself, but he was undoubtedly less capable than many of the others.

"Never heard of California, and the year is too advanced for my Earth, so we might have to compare notes further." But Doc had already anticipated that Trunks might need more. "I'm from Earth, West City specifically, in the year 796."

As for the other question...

"Yes and no. Yes, in that the Everglade seems to be home to what a lot of people view as monsters, like vampires. There are also a LOT of really powerful people in the cities, things that would seem to be super-powered to a normal person." Especially since Trunks counted as one of those. "Torchwood also seems to be involved in a lot of things, and from what I understand--on the Earth it originally is from, was a peace keeping organization of sorts."

"Ah," Doc shook his head. It wasn't quite what he'd signed up for, but he was sure he could find his way in the organization.

"And that means negotiation---and mechanical preparation, in case diplomacy fails, right?"

Trunks shrugged and admitted "I'm not entirely sure, but from what I understand that was likely. Here it seems to function more as just an organization trying to understand every single being, and help meet needs in a way that everyone can coexist peacefully. The doctor you've met, and Rose, are also heavily anti-fire-arm, when it comes to defense as well."

But he really didn't want to scare the other, just invite him to be cautious. "How much do you know about where you've landed? In terms of the different cities, and the domes and stuff? The Everglades are slightly different than the others, but as long as you know what's going on roughly, and who to turn to in trouble, you should be fine."

"I visited each of the different cities once. They all have their charm, but Nova City seems to be where I belong. I've read things about subarchways as well, though that seems to be quite the mess."

He folded his hands thoughtfully. "I understand. Peace is certainly the goal, and...I've already made my mistakes in war."

There is an eyebrow raise, as this is not how Trunks expected the conversation to go. Not that it's a bad thing at all. "I can guess at their reasons, but it's not my place to judge. My partner is an ace sniper though, and has saved my backside a lot. I'd probably trust her without her rifle or hand-gun, but would be slightly distracted by worry about her." In the end, a gun was a tool just like any other weapon. One that made certain things easier and require less skill in one area, in trade for more skill and responsibility in other areas.

A pacifist, Trunks was definitely not.

"If you want a tour of Nova though, let me know. Mom also opened up a branch of business from our home there--Capsule Corps." Which Torchwood has a lot of products bought from because they are useful useful things.

"I'd appreciate that. I get lost enough just within the walls of this building, I still haven't oriented myself within the city."

There were positives and negatives to working under the Doctor, he supposed. Doc was about ready to branch out and explore.

Trunks chuckled somewhat. "Well, Genessia City itself is organized along a grid, so that makes it a bit easier. Attleton isn't hard to find your way around either, and Nova--once you get used to it, anyways. I can't speak for Fayren as I haven't spent as much time there."

"I assume the magic would make it a tricky proposition," he nodded. "Magic. A concept I'm still struggling to grasp is real, and not merely an illusion or unexplained science."

But he had a feeling that being here could be of some assistance with that issue.

"It might still be the latter, or at least close enough. They don't have magic where you're from?" Curious, but not necessarily the first 'world' Trunks had heard of that didn't have magic.

"Mostly Fayren seems to be forest. And much lower tech than any of the other cities."

"Magic as I know it is rumor or illusion only. It never appears the way it does in fantasy novels...yet here, fantasy seems to become real."

He shook his head, full of equal parts wonder and skepticism. "Though I do appreciate rustic charm. Might still be worth a visit, do you think?"

"I've been to Fayren a bit, but not often. One of the people from my world started an animal sanctuary there." Doc's expression made Trunks' grin brighten a bit with amusement.

"I'd be happy to check it out with you, if you want?"

That definitely caught his attention. "What types of animals are there?"

"I'm not sure yet, although I had the impression he'd be okay with any of them as long as they cooperate with each other. He was a park ranger doing the same kind of work back in our world. We could go there if you want. Or just ask for Seventeen on the network."

Yes, he meant that as a name--'seventeen'.

"I'd be happy to go," he agreed. There was so much more to see in this place. "Not dangerous, is it?"
