For Orihime - Cake Town - Morning
[ Charlie was good at remembering places, different details of where she was. It was useful information, great to have handy in a situation where she needed to run away or make it sound like that was the town she was from. It was great to know where hiding places were, places she maybe needed to stay out of, places she could rest in for a moment or two.
And since old habits died hard, Charlie was out wandering Genessia. She starts around the temporary housing, taking in businesses and the like, trying to see where exactly everything is in regards to where she was staying. And she even wanders to the area near the bay, looking at the various businesses and trying to see if any of them might be hiring.
Truthfully, she has no job experience, unless picking pockets counted in which case? She has some there.
So deciding on a place that might be okay with how untrained she is? That's hard. And she really doesn't like the idea of starving, so her stomach wins.
She makes her way to Cake Town and pushes the door open, looking around for a moment before approaching someone she hoped worked there. ]
Excuse me. I was wondering if you were hiring? If there's a now hiring sign and I missed it, I promise I'm usually a lot more observant than that.
[ That was probably not as helpful as he hopes. ]
Attleton: Market - afternoon: OTA
[ With a job squared away, Charlie can be found trying to grocery shop. She has limited funds, a desire to see it extend well past her first official paycheck, and a small fridge to put food in. So she can't buy much, even if her stomach is telling her to buy everything. She manages to buy a few apples, some quickly cooked microwave meals and a gallon of milk and is now waiting in line to pay for everything, watching everyone and everything with casual interest.
Is she settling in? Probably not. But she's relaxed some. Nothing about this place is making her danger sense scream, so maybe she's okay? ]
Genessia: Starter Residences: Evening - OTA.
[ The small handful of errands run and Charlie's back home, heading to her place in the starter residences. Her tiny but pretty cozy apartment with the small fridge, shared bathroom. Okay, that part? That part she's not too fond of. But she has a roof over her head and it's quiet. She's good with both of those. She can be found either inside the halls, heading to her place, or outside on the front steps, writing in a journal she bought earlier and watching the people come and go. Nothing too intrusive or exciting, really. Just a teenage girl with an apple and a book and a pen, trying to settle in and remain as inconspicuous as possible.
So clearly, that means come and say hi. ]

Starter Residences
She is trying not to think about her mom though or anyone else that isn't around. Even more than that, she is trying not to think about the one person she does know in this place so far. So she scans the area for new faces which means spotting the young girl sitting nearby doing some people watching of her own.
Turning slightly to head in her direction, Courtney smiles. ]
Hey, are you new too?
Re: Starter Residences
Yeah. Been here about a week. You?
no subject
Yeah, about that long. Still trying to settle in and figure things out which is somewhat headache inducing at times.
no subject
[ With that, and with a faint twirl of the pencil she holds before she puts it down and extends her hand, she introduces herself. ]
Charlie.
no subject
[ Relaxing, she leans down to take the hand offered to her for a quick shake. ]
Courtney. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
[ This girl seems nice. There's nothing that causes her alarm, nothing that worries her. Nothing too worrying for her to walk away from. ]
How's job hunting going?
no subject
[ She asks it to be polite as she motions to a spot on the floor near her. ]
It's going so far as I think I might go check out the hospital and see if I can work as a healer. What are you looking at?
no subject
[ Charlie moves her backpack and makes room, giving the girl a small and semi-warm smile. She's slow to accept that people aren't terrible here so far, and this woman seems nice. So she's going to be nice in return. ]
Barista at Cake Town? I want to see what all I can learn there, though. [ A shrug. ]
Make myself useful.
no subject
That seems like a good way to go about it. All the different towns look pretty interesting too. I'm not sure which one I'm leaning towards yet but I guess I'll have to make a decision soon.
[ Glancing over, she smiles curiously. ]
Where were you before here? If you don't mind me asking?
no subject
[ The question makes her pause for a moment, considering her options. She could lie, but lying is tiring. Lying has become a way of life that she'd like to step out of. So she goes for a sort-of-truth. ]
I was on my way to Maine.
no subject
[ Courtney considers lying too but she doesn't see the point in it. At the same time, being honest might freak the other girl out. ]
I have never been to Maine. I was in California.
Attleton: Market
He swings by the flower shop to visit Kirika and then buys flowers because it seems like the thing to do. Except that he doesn't really want flowers and he has no idea what to do with them.
He spots Charlie at the market and heads towards her with a relaxed air.] Would you care for a rose? [He holds one of the red buds out for her to take.] It's a give. [He rolls his shoulders in a shrug.] I purchased too many.
Re: Attleton: Market
Who buys too many roses?
[ It's an honest, almost teasing question that Charlie asks, smiling at the guy before accepting the rose carefully, shifting her items to make things easier. ]
Thank you.
Attleton: Market
[At least he's honest?]
You're welcome. I had planned to give them to my neighbor but seeing you inspired a change.
[Seth smiles.]
Re: Attleton: Market
[ Nice things for no reason don't really happen to Charlie, so she's suspicious, but nothing is telling her she's in danger, so she gives him a small and cautious smile. ]
Thank you. I'm Charlie.
Attleton: Market
[If she doesn't know him then she's probably recently arrived. Up until recently, Seth found himself in the eyes of the populace and he disliked the mass attention.]
It's nice to meet anyone so lovely.
Are you new to Genessia? Not that I stalk everyone who shows up but I don't think I've seen you around. [He likes to people watch in a non-creepy way.]
no subject
Welcome!
[She's about to ask what Charlie would like to order, but blinks in surprise at the request for a job.]
--Oh, that's a good idea. Usually I just ask now and then over the network, but a sign would definitely help.
[She'll have to remember that for later.]
Yup, we've got all kinds of positions! Baker, cake decorator, bouncer, crepe maker or dessert specialist, delivery...
[She taps off each option on her fingers.]
We can definitely find something for you if you're interested! What kind of work do you like?
no subject
[ Is that going to be a mark against her? She's hopeful it isn't. ]
I'm a fast learner, though. Absolutely willing to train and take the time I need to learn how to do things right.
[ Though, if it helps? ]
Do you need a barista? I'd love to learn, if you do.
no subject
[She makes a fist. She's honestly kind of honored that Charlie would choose to make this place her first!]
Actually we kind of do! We have a coffee machine, but it's nothing fancy, and we can only serve one kind of coffee. All of our tea comes from tea bags too. We don't have a very good set up here, I guess you can see.
Oh, but!
[She interjects quickly so Charlie won't get disappointed.]
We'll be opening a branch in Attleton next month, and I thought it would be fun for each store to have something unique about it. This one has a crepe bar, but coffee would be a great specialty for Attleton, ne?
[She claps her hands together.]
If it's okay with you, you can work here as a cashier and a server, and I'll teach you anything you want to know. You can let me know what kind of equipment would be good for you, and I'll add that to the building plans when I submit them. It'll be like your own personal place that's customized just the way you like it!
no subject
And then the idea of helping set up and run the other store? Well, maybe not run it? But getting it started, being a help in that situation. That'd be super. ]
I'd love to learn crepe's and help you start a coffee bar in the other store. Cashier and server sounds great. Anything you think I could learn so I can help with the second store, I'm for it.
no subject
[She clasps her hands together and bows her gratitude.]
When do you want to start? I'll teach you anything you want to learn. Crepes are really simple, especially since we let the customers put in the fillings, and the rest is just keeping the store clean and comfortable.
no subject
[ She can't help how overjoyed she is right now, the grin on her face probably not going away for a while, all while feeling very foreign to the younger girl. ]
I would absolutely love to learn crepe. It sounds like a blast.
no subject
[She ducks down behind the counter, rummaging around for a few moments, then pops back up with a clean apron in hand.]
Here you go! You can shadow me today if you want, or just start fresh early tomorrow morning. Ha ha, maybe you can teach me to make coffee the right way too, ne?
Attleton
At the moment, he's hungry and Lorna doesn't eat enough. Fortunately, both of them like healthy food, so he stops into a market to pick up vegetables, lettuce, some tuna, tea to ice and some of the sparkling water she likes. Because he's already figured out that she likes it but won't get it for herself, he picks up a fresh pastry out of a case, and adds that to the bag.
Of course he noticed the girl who has been watching everything -- including him -- since she got into the store, and so when he winds up behind her in line, he deliberately slouches a little so his height's not so threatening, gives her the smile that Lorna calls 'schoolboy' and offers a quiet, warm, "Hi. Are you new in town too?"
Re: Attleton
"Yeah. Just got here a day or so ago."
Re: Attleton
That might not have been a concern of hers, but it had been his first thought. And he had to start somewhere with her. Getting personal wasn't going to work.
"Oh, I'm Sam, by the way."
Re: Attleton
"Charlie."
Re: Attleton
"Are you doing all right now?"
Re: Attleton
Now being the operative word. Truthfully, she's not sure what to make of Genessia, or her current shitshow situation, and she's paranoid enough to believe it's another guilded cage.
"This isn't the worst mess I've been in, really. I'm fine."
Re: Attleton
He cautioned himself not to get dismissive of condescending when what he meant was to give her a little confidence boost and maybe a friend.
"Have you found anyone from home yet? They say that happens a lot."
Re: Attleton
No. No one from home. She doesn’t seem upset by that, but the idea that someone from home could show up was another issue entirely. One she was stuck thinking about, despite every effort not to. God. Dad showing up would be bad. Rainbird or Hollister or any one of the nameless and faceless scientists that she hated. It would be ugly.
“What about you? Anyone from home?” She asks quickly, shaking her own hand some in a nervous gesture before tucking her hand in her pocket.
Re: Attleton
That wariness he'd noticed before had broken into a more obvious combination of anger and fear. Something was chasing Charlie. He'd bet on it.
"But if you're in some kind of trouble, I can help."
Residences
Re: Residences
First, Charlie's heartrate ticks up in slight alarm. The scent of smoke or fire picks up briefly, too, but it's mixed with her scent so maybe it's coming from her. And she exhales slowly, calming herself and all of that fades away as she sticks her hand in his.
"Charlie."
Re: Residences
"Pleasure," Matt replies easily as he shakes her hand then quickly let's go. He also backs up to give Charlie a bit more personal space since he did catch the up tick in her heart beat and he really doesn't want to scare her. "Have you been here long?"
Re: Residences
Stupid. Dumb. She needs to think a little more.
"You?"
Residence
Re: Residence
"Oh, for the love of..." No. No, she will not get angry at this guy. She will in fact change tactics and check on the guy instead.
"You okay, man?"
See, world? She can be nice sometimes.
Re: Residence
Newt pulls out his wand and reserves apple tart back together and into Charlie's hand.
"Yes, I'm alright. Quite sorry again."
Re: Residence
"How'd you do that?"
Re: Residence
"It's the least I could do for bumping into you."
Re: Residence
"Do you want half of it? I'm not going to eat the whole thing. I just bought it while I was hungry, and shopping on an empty stomach is never the best idea, is it?"
