AQUARIUM TRIO Closed (for sanity's sake)
Carver got her a necklace for Angelique's birthday. Although it was the human's birthday, not technically the being she became afterwards, Carver agreed that he never knew the human, and wouldn't have known she existed if Chrysalis hadn't told him. They were still celebrating her birthday on that date, half as an excuse, and half because it was something her family still did and she loved having the family
food sourcearound. So new family. He also got her a C letterman jacket, because he's a gigantic loser like that. It wasn't quite the heat wave they'd arrived under, but it was still hot, but Carver knew from
stalkingdetective inspecting/reading up on the network that it was going to get cold and snowy, and Chrysalis had never seen ice outside of a glass, much less heard about frozen poles to a planet. And Sora....... Carver had no idea. There was that snow scene in Beauty and the Beast, but that didn't mean WHEN Sora had been there. And if he was at Halloween Town with Jack Skellington, that still didn't also mean Christmas Town. It was weird to think about, so Carver mostly... didn't.
"See? Penguins." He rubbed the back of his neck, still wearing the black trenchcoat no matter how hot it was, and to Sora, "You might have seen them be waiters?" Because that was a Disney thing beyond Mary Poppins, right? Although Carver didn't remember where.

The necklace made her smile, because it wasn't clear what it was, a dragon, a succubus, or even a strange butterfly as he told her to say if anyone not in the known asked. She didn't waste time asking him to help her put it on, same with the jacket though that one made her tilt her head in confussion, not sure of the meaning or reason for it. But it was a gift from Carver and that alone was enough to make her love it, so she put it on as well, even if it clashed a bit with her clothes and it was hot. Carver himself still wore his black trenchcoat so she could do the same.
"Whaaaaat?! Those are penguins?! They like look like weird, fat, big pigeons. Why are their legs like so small?" Her eyes sparkled as she looked at the animals, pushing herself ahead, balancing on the railing, in an attempt to get as close as possible to look at them. "But didn't you like say that they lived in like giant ice cubes?"
She turned her head to Sora when she heard Carver ask about penguin waiters, taking it quite literally. "Waiters like are penguins in your world?!"

"They kind of are. On ice cubes. Giant ones. Glaciers. They're not inuit, they don't make architecture," not that she would know that reference either.
"Yeah waiters were sometimes dressed all fancy in suits that looked like penguins."
late to the party like win
“What?” Carver’s waiter comment was taken as if it were just a joke and Sora peeled his face from the window to give the older man the common expression whenever Carver tried to say something that was a silly thing. “Bah, what?” He laughed and smooshed his face back to the glass.
He answered Chrys with a soft snort. “Nah, he’s tugging on your leg!” Wait, “pulling on your leg!” He peeled his face off the window to look at the blond with a big grin to his face. “Don’t you worry though. I bet Carver will get you anything you ask him to~” Indicating the detective was her personal waiter.
Aquarium || OTA!!!
Maybe he was overthinking it. Maybe to all of them, it was like how it was for Chrysalis; alien as could be.

So far, so good.
Then he realizes that the animals are all wrong, and his mood turns a little sour. What a reminder exactly how far from home he is.
He's watching the stingrays when he bumps into a man, turning to mumble a half-hearted apology only to pause when he recognizes Carver. ]
It's you.

[New phone, who dis?]
[Oh!]
Hey. [Awkward wave.] Yeah. Angelique's birthday.

[ She told Cassian that you nearly got yourself killed, Carver. ]
She is truly an extraordinary woman.
[ She helped Cassian plot how to cunningly and elaborately fake having normal hobbies instead of pushing him into having actual hobbies. She is awesome in his book. ]

[Smiles.] Yeah. She is. [Dopey puppy grin!!!]
[Carver was not gonna die
yes he wasit was a just a six-year-old girl and she was really scared! And lashing out and ready to kill the universe...]no subject
We had a good conversation. I'm sure she's busy around here so if I don't see her wish her a happy birthday from me, alright?
[ He eyes Carver again. ]
How're you holding up in Everglade?
no subject
Nah, she'd love to see you in person. [Glances.] She might be distracted though, none of these animals exist in her home world, and wild animals aren't allowed to be kept in aquariums or zoos on her planet.
Good. [Thumbs up.] You know Satou, right? She was one of your volunteer deputies, I think? She's also there. Hooked me up with some blessed bullets, and I haven't had to use them yet. So that's a good sign. That and not dying. [Because if he does, Satou and Chrysalis will kill him :V] They're making me put up a jar with money for every time they think I get in over my head and they have to rescue me, though. [Eye roll.]
[Gestures.] You'd think just because I lived on a planet with these guys I'd be able to handle working with them, the way they talk, but it's not how it works. Police work is police work. Just as I'd bet a zoologist could handle figuring out alien species better than a native with no zoology experience, right?
no subject
[ Yeah, so it had been a steep learning curve for him. But his experience as soldier and spy had still helped. ]
Either way, I'm glad you're adjusting well enough to Everglade. I knew you would. [ It's keeping an open mind more than powers that matters. He's so pleased he was right with his advice, really. ] Just don't get yourself killed. We can come back but the price for it is steep, you don't want that.

If I were you I'd think now about what you don't want to give up. Should you die.
But I'm glad you have a few choices that aren't a pacemaker.
Hallo!
[The Doctor remarks cheerfully to both Cassian and Carver]

[Good job Ten.]
[You just made Carver jump about 3 feet.]
Jumping Jehosephats Jiminey Cricket, DO YOU DO THIS TO EVERYONE?!
[Luckily he doesn't pull out his gun, despite the American cop stereotype, BUT he does have a hand over his heart, and instantly has to take some of the pills from the Doctor himself. GOOD JOB TEN. SCARE HIM INTO GETTING THAT HEART.]
no subject
[ Unlike Carver, he didn't have a heart attack - too much experience with a trolling droid - but he sure did flinch and whirl around, hand going for his gun. And is now giving him his best scowl. ]
What are you doing here?!
[ Hey, he nearly killed his friend from right, this warrants some rudeness. ]
no subject
Same thing you are.
[Then to Carver]
Yes.
[It comes from lives of living in the shadows and just passing through]
no subject
[And looks around for a bottle of water.
Luckily he's American.]You're going to get shot one of these days. [Hoarsely.]

Well, never mind that now. Nothing happened. But you might want to avoid sneaking up to people around here. Some of them pack more firepower than Carver and I do.
[ He's mostly thinking of trigger-happy magic users here.
Cassian gives Carver a concerned look.]
Are you alright?
EVERGLADE COPS
Except the nighttime thing.
It was weird to think he had to -- in theory -- head home before dark. It was weird to have a home. It was weird not to spend 120 hours a week+ at work. It was weird not to hate that. But good. Technically he'd be safe as long as Chrysalis was with him, but he was trying very hard not to push the limits of what she could handle, especially since he could barely do anything to protect her in return.
But during the day, even with the omnipresent fog, and predators that considered humans prey; it struck Carver it was more how it should be. The gang wars were of course more like Reno than San Francisco, but that was good, it was by and large easier in a lot of ways. And at least he wasn't getting called out for broken chicken fences. Yet.
