Hello, I'm Lily.

[She pulls away further, giving a better view of her equine face with bright blue eyes and her long silver horn. Her long black mane drapes from her neck, a long forelock to match hanging down in front of her face. She snorts, and looks about, not sure if this was actually working, but willing to give it a try, and seems to gain some of her confidence as she goes.]

This tool is such a strange device isn't it? But that's not quite what I came on to ask about. You see, I don't have much experience being.....of the equine variety and I was wondering if anyone could help me learn somehow? Or at least explain to me how to not be at the bottom of a herd. Yes, I know, a very human thought probably, but human is unfortunately what I know. I don't know how to be another way. So, can anyone help? Even more is what does a unicorn do? What's our purpose, and yes I know there are legends out there, but they're all different. I guess....what's everyone else's knowledge of my kind is what I'm asking? I'm sure everyone knows something different and maybe those stories could help me figure it out somehow.

I didn't really have a herd before coming here, but it was mostly something someone else said that made me think about it. I grew up human so I'm not so familiar with equine hierarchy.

You still are at least part human, so probably not all of the same rules would apply. I don't know anything about equine herd dynamics, but I can research it for you if you need me to.

As for what unicorns do, I think that depends on the unicorn, don't you? You didn't stop having free will or suddenly become something you weren't when you changed. What do you want to do?

We don't know if I am or not. Just that I can take human form.

[She shook her head at the offer.]

No, I haven't. It just feels strange so I don't entirely understand it yet. I think right now I just want to be me before I decide on what I really want to do, though it certainly seems a difficult and daunting task to find me under the new circumstances. It feels like such a new perspective now in comparison to before, but I suppose there's much that is still the same.

I can't imagine what it's like to go from opposable thumbs and bipedal locomotion to teeth and four legs.

[ He thinks it would actually be panic-inducing to not be able to reach for a glass of water if he was thirsty or think that he was hungry and not actually know how to eat grass. And not to be able to brush her hair or her teeth or any of the things she was used to doing to take care of herself.

But your mind seems to work the same. You can read and use technology not intended for equines. You problem-solve like a human, researching to inform an OODA-loop. Observe, orient, decide and act. And your emotions seem the same from the outside. Do they feel the same?

Mostly, yes. Though there's instincts now that seem to make my mind shift on occasion from its usual thought pattern. I'm not sure I could explain it since it's quite a strange sensation.

Can you give me an example?

Like the feeling of being prey now. It's not a feeling I was used to in my human form. Not to that degree anyway. Every human can still feel like prey in front of the right creature. Even in human form I felt it when faced with a dragon for example.

That makes sense. As a human you're probably less dependent on that awareness. Also, whether it's true or not, we tend to think of ourselves as apex predators.

True, but we still get senses of feeling like prey around the right creatures. Like dragons for instance. Well...most of us do anyway.

[ Sam nods. He doesn't feel like prey very often anymore. ] So what makes it different? Just the strength of the awareness?
