[Video/Reaction] Cooking with Grumpy: The Third One
Who: Satori and YOU
What: Cooking with Eyeball Monsters, ROUND THREE.
Where: Chireiden
When: 10/17
Warnings: Excessively spooky dour youkai, snark and cute sisters being even cuter.
The feed starts up with Satori. The timestamp seems to mark this around sunset, just past most sane people's dinner time. Once again, that expansive kitchen is arrayed with all manner of utensils, jars, bowls, pots and cups and all of them immaculately clean and ready for use. A few pumpkins can be seen lining the counter, including one that's already been cut and pre-scooped - suggesting wordlessly at the contents of the first couple jars.
Except this time, Satori seems to be wearing what appears to be a set of baggy dark robes and an equally spooky-looking hood over her dour features clasped with a brooch resembling her third eye. Her real third eye can be seen vaguely peering out the side of the folds of fabric, judging everybody ever, forever.
"Greetings, mortals and otherwise. I'm aware that in some lands and worlds, this month is all about fear and darkness, as the days grow shorter. Expect this recipe to be equally...heart-stopping. Satori Komeiji, the premier chef of Chireiden has deigned to offer you some festive cooking tips to ameliorate even the most frightening of your questionable life choices."
Oh, and let's not forget the Satori action figure on the counter. She's posed in a manner that seems overly dramatic and intimidating, her little plastic hand cupped over a rather disturbingly inhuman grin. When the hell did they make one with a face like THAT?
"For this recipe, it's advisable to pre-heat your ovens up to proper baking temperature to avoid embarrassment - I've read that's about 218C or 425F, depending on measurement. I was making this for my sister at a certain person's request. Assuming either of them haven't already caught wind of it, by now."
...There's a faint noise and a slight scraping of metal as Satori positions the pumpkin on a worn cutting board.
"Our special guest is the ever-lovely seasonal squash-esque plant, the pumpkin. Let's give it the warm welcome it deserves."
She lifts a hefty looking knife and suddenly, with frightening dexterity, cleaves one of the lesser pumpkins in half with neither pity nor remorse. Those pumpkins are roughly the same size as a human head, making her ease of slicing it all the more visceral.
"By dividing it lengthwise in half. We've enough pumpkin for two dishes, today. In either case, make sure to remove all the seeds and separate them from the flesh. The seeds, when roasted, can also serve as a quick snack when there's little else to eat. My sister and I are quite aware that even seeds are better than starvation."
Using a ladle, she quickly scoops out the innards of the pumpkin and stuffs it in the jar, her third eye unnervingly focused on the camera the whole time. She looks remarkably sinister, even doing something so simple, when that hood falls over her face. She grabs an implement to mash the pumpkin filling until it's a very smooth consistency, almost a puree.
And that's even before she gets out the pie tin and the pre-rolled dough, carefully folding it into the dish. She dumps the mashed pumpkin into two large, separate bowls. She gathers up some containers from below the counter, filled with sugar, mixed spices and salt. Very, very carefully, she lays a few eggs on the counter.
She cracks the eggs into a smaller bowl and pours the yolks and whites into the pumpkin mix. She adds the milk without any trouble and mixes in a dash of salt, sugar and the spice-mix. That is, until a certain racoon's furry hand steals an egg, to Satori's rather visible dismay.
"...Oh gods." A sigh... "You'll need to combine and mix some eggs, milk, sugar and whatever other spice and garnish you'd prefer, to taste. Cinnamon is popular, as are cloves. But will be sticking with the former. Cinnamon's a taste I've grown rather fond of, while I've been here...and Koishi isn't too fond of cloves."
She begins beating and mixing the ingredients until they're nice and smooth, then pours the mixture into the pie tin, making sure that none of it spills over, placing the resulting pie into the oven.
"This part is so simple that even young humans can manage. Place it in the oven and bake the pie for roughly a half-hour. Though, if you have time to waste, you could equally let it run for 40 minutes and nothing of value is lost."
She turns away after checking the oven again and produces a pot, taking the pumpkin puree and pouring it inside.
"I've already pre-cut many of the ingredients for this second recipe, to save time. Using the remainder of the pumpkin mixture, I'm we would all be fond of some soup, as the weather grows colder. To this end, chicken stock and onion for flavour, some thyme, and some salt and pepper. This recipe called for garlic, originally, but I'm omitting it in case of...health concerns."
She places the ingredients into the pot, one by one and turns on the heat.
"Let this boil, then simmer for twenty minutes to a half-hour. If the soup is far too thick to even consider eating, be sure to stir and beat the content until creamy. Boil again for another twenty to thirty minutes after that, and you've a perfect meal for company on a fall evening."
It is at this point that a certain green haired youkai floats over to the pot, stirring it several times. She drifts over to where Satori had set the sugar down, extending one finger for a taste--
"...Koishi! Don't you dare, I'm not nearly done..." Satori waves away her sister, trying to dissuade her from messing about with the ingredients further. "Give it some time and we'll have more than enough to eat..."
"Okaaaay." Giggling, Koishi zipped off, doing a little loop in the air before rounding a corner.
She looks over to one side of the room and mumbles despondently...
"Look at the time...I should have spent longer preparing--"
Before shutting the feed off for the night. Seems she's got some plans.

[Action]
She is dressed in a similarly spooky way, a black version of this dress with a hood for this date night.
"Satori, ma chérie! I hope I'm on time?"
[Action]
"MISS BAAAAAAATS!" So Enthusiastic. Also, tentacuddles. And nuzzles.
"Sis is inside. She's been pacing for awhile now and mumbling and I couldn't get her attention but then she nearly tripped over Scribbles so I gave her a hug and made her sit down.
Re: [Action]
"...Koishi. You're messing up my dress. I must look my best for her, you know!"
[Action]
God dammit Koishi.
She did eventually let go at least, a tentacle winding its way up Remilia's arm as the little youkai began to drag the vampire off toward the front door.
"I bet you guys will have lots of fun. Sis did a lot of things and she even made a dessert but the dessert is secret so I'm not going to tell you what it is. It's delicious though! Sis made extra for me!"
No doubt Koishi already ate her share.
"Do you like sweet things? I love them!"
Re: [Action]
"Enough that Sakuya might express concern that I sometimes have too many."
[Action]
She pulled Remilia through the front door around the side of the grand double staircase, across the tiled floors, passed numerous stained glass windows and frescoes in various states of ruin...
Finally they arrived at a large double door, Koishi stopping enough to put her hat on Remilia's head, letting her hand go and pushing it open, revealing the dining hall and Satori sitting inside.
Next time Remilia looked Koishi would be gone, leaving the vampire standing awkwardly in the doorway looking a little disheveled and wearing Koishi's hat.
Re: [Action]
[ The vampire was annoyed now... and tries to tidy herself up a little. She wants to be presentable, after all! ]
My hyperlinks aren't working, so outfit reference is over here: https://imgur.com/a/z2IXtst
"You look lovely, tonight. Shame I had things ready on such short notice. The Scarlet Devil can overlook a few imperfections, I hope?"
She chuckles, a little bitterly and still quite self-deprecating. Satori's kept on those odd, baggy robes, but has opened them to reveal an impressive gown rivaling the outfit worn at their get-together at the Prom. This must've been some sort of attempt to make herself look charming for her altogether cultured vampire guest. Not as if she needed any help, she's aware. But she's trying, but is increasingly self-conscious the entire time.
On the table, there's two decently sized bowls of hot, fresh pumpkin soup waiting to be enjoyed. A large bottle of some rather ancient vintaged sake was nearby, two dishes already filled. At the centre of the table is a pumpkin pie, likely fresh out of the oven, the scent of the delicious treat almost overwhelming. Or so Satori hoped. She planned this all out for Remilia and wanted things to be...well, special.
"...Don't worry about your appearance so much, Remi. I am more than happy you've shown up, at all. Please, be seated. And make sure you hang that hat of yours up properly."
no subject
"Koishi's hat kind of... clashes with my dress." Before she takes a seat, there is the impulse of stealing a kiss. And Remilia will act on it if Satori doesn't stop her.
no subject
It isn't as if Satori's going to refuse Remi going in for the kiss, either. If anything, she seems to welcome it. There's something about the phrasing of her earlier words which is almost too adorable, coming from her. It's almost...sweet, with a tinge of Satori's normal sourness.
Then, she meets Remi's gaze. She knows, of course. She always does.
"Ah, ah. No need to say anything more about me. As austere and regal as you appear, your emotions never lie, do they?"
no subject
She lets her gaze meet Satori's afterwards.
"Mn, they certainly don't." She can't wait to continue.
no subject
Satori's gaze is, while still a bit stony, one that contains a fair bit of admiration for the vampire and all she's done. And a faint blush, though she tries to hide it by turning away slightly and avoiding eye contact. She quietly points to the chair at the other end of the table and places a hand to Remilia's shoulder.
"We'll have plenty of time to curl up together by the fire...or whatever overly emotional thing you'd prefer...once you've tried my cooking. It's your suggestion, after all, so I should hope my hard work has turned out right. Koishi, of course, thinks it's fantastic."
She always does. The youkai wonders if her dear vampire would feel the same. She did everything the way she was told, though with a bit of flair. A sappier person would say 'I made it with love', but that isn't really Satori's thing, either.
"I...just wanted to do something nice, for once. To make up for all your kindness."
no subject
"I'm sure it'll be aa good or better than Sakuya's cooking." She appreciates it... there's nothing hidden from Satori here, after all.
Apologies for the slowposts! x_x
Satori lets out a bitter little chuckle - but not too bitter, mind - Remilia's hit the nail on the head with that one.
"Oh, don't worry, I tend to complain about many things, even those rare things I enjoy. Everyone has flaws. Some make beautiful things less so. Some make unsightly things much more tolerable. If my complaints help you appreciate what went well, that's your choice. I like to think my occasional dry wit keeps you on your toes."
Despite how backhanded that was, it's the closest thing to a direct compliment she'll get, right now. The mind-reader offers her typically wry smile as a retort.
"...Well then, as you might say, Bon Appétit."
Re: Apologies for the slowposts! x_x
Satori is of course more or less constantly on her mind today.
"Bon Appétit indeed." She'll take a bite... and her face lights up. It's not an amateur's work... not if you ask her.
