I think it unwise to accept I can be redeemed. Rather, I should work towards it and let others come to that conclusion - or not - independently. [He isn't much influenced by the opinions of others. He never has been. Except where Albus is concerned.]

But it would be nice to be free of the guilt.

There must be some hope in there, else you wouldn't be asking. Working toward it is a sound plan, though. I think most humans spend the majority of their lives going about it that way.
