...Do you ever feel like you're not strong enough?

Especially for you guys who don't have any magic, or whose powers aren't useful to fight. After Mr. Demon King of the Toilet Bowl had his tantrum a while back, I've been kind of worried.

There was some clattering, some fumbling, some dropping of the video phone... and eventually a smiling girl came into focus. The ambient light around her was very dim but the screen's glow as well as the inner glow of her green eyes illuminated her face well enough.

After a moment... "Is... It working? Yay! I got it to work!" her smile got bigger. "Hello miss. You have a very very sad face right now. Please smile. You would look much nicer with a smile." It had nothing to do with her question, but the little satori seemed sincere.

Huh? [Kano blinks. She hesitates before stretching her face with her hands into a goofy smile.] Maybe like this?

The girl laughs a bit, brushing some of the hair out of her face. "You're silly Miss! Even I can tell that's not a real smile without reading you. Why are you so frowny?" This girl was either very young or very strange. It was hard to tell.

[Kano is, thankfully, also very strange. She puts her hands down and shrugs, shaking her head.]

I can't fight like other people can. I usually just tease my enemies and make fun of them, but I don't know if it always works.

"And what's wrong with that?" She tilted her head. "Are you human? Most humans don't have that much magic to begin with. Besides, when you have a lot of power you can hurt a lot of people and its really scary to fight."

That's true. Even my friends don't have their abilities anymore. But I felt really useless when that demon guy decided to go around blowing up hospitals.

[koishi_komeiji]

"Ohh... Yeah I couldn't do anything about that either. Everyone's minds were screaming in my head. I helped other people do things though. Because I could hear people inside the smoke and could keep people calm. But that's okay. I tried my best even though my head hurt and I couldn't stop coughing..." She shrugged. "Attention is nice but sometimes it's better to not be the hero. Because the hero is always pestered and its no fun."

Minds? Are you a telepath?

"No. I'm a satori youkai but don't be scared because I can't read minds anymore." She tilted her head forward, the screen illuminating a scar above her left temple. "See? I can only read and manipulate the subconscious mind now. I like that power a lot better. It isn't as loud!"

Whoa, really? I don't think I'd be scared anyway. Most of my friends were weird. Actually, most of them were dead and they could still talk, so.

[koishi_komeiji]

"Really?" The little youkai tried to hold back a giggle. "The nice lady with the boat and red hair must not be doing her job. Poor little human souls lingering around. We have a lot of vengeful spirits around old hell. It's hard to keep them in line without Orin's help though." She didn't bother explaining who Orin was.

It's a little complicated. Is that where you came from?

[koishi_komeiji]

"Yeah! Sis and I live in The Palace of the Earth Spirits in Old Hell." She raised something to her mouth, taking a bite. She was snacking on a plum or some other dark fruit. "There's lots of interesting things here. And a whole city of oni!"

So I guess, here... your city is Fayren, isn't it?

[koishi_komeiji]

"Yeah! The green one. But there's another place to go through and you get to old hell!" Another bite, the girl chewing happily. A little nose poked up on the bottom of the screen and the satori looked down, jumping a bit, the picture shaking. It was a raccoon.

"Scribbles... Scribbles no! This one is mine. You can go get your own. The tree is full of- no! Scribbles! Stoooop!" It seemed keen on getting her plum. After a few moments (and some unpleasant shaking), Koishi finally gave up, throwing the plum off in one direction, the sound of scampering feet following.

"Greedy thing..." Her third eye bobbed a bit in irritation.

Mine's Everglade, but I live in Genessia City. Oh, you opened a door to your world?

Ehehe, aww! Have you tried talking to them?

"I can't really talk to them anymore. Not like my sister can. I can influence them though and make them sort of understand my intentions. Sis has lots and lots and lots and lots of animals because she doesn't like the minds of a lot of sentient beings. Simple minds are comforting to her. And the animals like her too because she can understand them."

Sort of like me, then. I never considered it magic, but that's just because it wasn't the magic I wanted back then.

[koishi_komeiji]

"Well I can't understand them because my head is broken now. I can't understand anyone. Especially you. Because you're in this little box and I'm out here." She frowned a bit, shaking the video phone. "It's really bothersome!"

[She smiled- feeling worried for the girl.]
