Moonlit Beach Party (backdated, shhhhh)

Who: Anybody!
What: Rip wanted a moonlit beach party for her birthday, so that's what she's getting.
When: May 17
Where: Fayren beach

Mid-day May 17, a simple text message gets sent to the network:

Moonlight Beach Party
TONIGHT
Fayren
Bring Your Own Booze and Music

Thanks to a full moon and a bit of angel magic, clusters of blue and white bioluminescent algae light up the water from the ocean floor, bright enough to see well enough to surf or swim without issue. If getting wet isn't your thing, a small schooner lit with colorful paper lanterns and fairy lights is moored near the shallows, and there's a dinghy on the shore to take people out to enjoy a bit of night sailing.

A series of small bonfires dot the shore, surrounded by stumps for sitting on and tables spread with roasted or barbecued foods of all sorts, a birthday cake and open coolers full of ice. There are several bottles of booze and soda, but if you want to get yourself really smashed you have to bring your own. A couple of the coolers have a fingerpainted hazmat symbol on them, and those with sharp noses will notice the smell of blood, this time available in several different flavors thanks to a shopping trip to Haunted Eatings. A little ways off to one side of the bonfires a volleyball net has been set up, and a little ways off to the other side there are several cans of glow in the dark body paint and a battery-run boombox sitting next to a couple large pieces of cardboard that have been taped together to make a DIY dance floor. The boombox does have a mic, so if you're in the mood for a round or two of karaoke, feel free.

Of course, having all of this glowing fish food concentrated in a single area is going to draw the attention of some larger predators. A pair of monstrous anglerfish crash the party in the wee hours of the morning, deciding that humans and humanoids might be better at filling their bellies than microscopic algae. Will there be another round of fresh roasted fish on the menu? Or will you find your end in the dark guts of something that looks like a dentist's nightmare?

[She feels a little like she is trapping herself.]

That is just the way life worked out...

[Hopefully it's enough of a dodge...]

[ Kind of. If she doesn't want to talk about it then he won't push it. He offers a hand to her with a tiny smile, the other lifting the folds of his hakama. ]

Come. Let's feel the water.

[She looks at the offered hand for a moment, wondering on the propriety of taking it. She finally takes it, nodding her agreement. The world was turned on its head anymore anyway. She toed off her shoes easily enough before leaning down to pull off her tabi.

[ As he waits for her to take off her tabi -- ]

--!!

[ -- When she slightly bends, the scent becomes quite noticeable. Often he got used to geishas and maikos to cense themselves, even Kohana. The white plums certainly had a strong smell, only not for many ladies to wear.

The sea breeze really helped him find out particularly this time. ]

White... plums...

Hmm...? [She tucks her tabi away and then nods in recognition.] It was my mother's scent...

Ah--! [ Okay, he didn't mean to say it out loud. Now his cheeks are flushed. ] I-- I mean--! It doesn't smell bad!

[ He might be pulling his hakama way too much and she will feel his grip a bit tense. ]

[She huffs lightly through her nose--the closest she gets to actually laughing]

No, I would hope not.

[She straightens the rest of the way and takes a few steps toward the water.]

[ Is that an attempt of laughter? It is really surprising coming from her.

He follows her with peach colored cheeks. Are they still holding hands? Hm. His grip relaxes a little. ]

[Attempt? That's not attempt, that's her laugh. Come on, now.]

[She takes her hand back when his grip relaxes so that she can pull her kimono up a little higher to keep the hem from getting wet.]

[ One day, Tomoe. One day he will make you laugh as you deserve. ] [ She really is a mysterious and odd woman. He wants to know her better. ]

Have you visited the beach frequently?

Occasionally... I tend to wander when I'm not working... [Or when she's not sleeping...]

[ He steps into the water as he followed her. ]

Where else do you go?
willing_sheath: (Default)

[personal profile] willing_sheath 2019-07-05 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Just around... no where in particular...

[This is actually the first time she's stepped into the water though... she hadn't even thought of doing it before...]

...

There is one place near the inn, an overhang where the river drops into falls. It's a safe diving area warm weather. [Not that she's ever dived...]

Then I'd like to go with you next time.

[ Smiley, smiley!~ ] [ He points at the shore. ]

Look! Isn't the algae beautiful?

[She doesn't respond to that--whether she is amenable to the idea or not. Instead she just looks out to the water and the fascinating bioluminescence there.]

Yes... I did not know it could do that. It's fascinating.
