[Luke is a rather calculating young man, all things considered. As such, he's already been awake from his odd slumber in the bay for quite some time before he decides it's time to test the video feed out. He's sitting on a bench outside of the library--libraries are always a good place to figure things out--when he turns the feed on. For a thirteen-year-old suddenly stranded in a new city, he seems rather calm.

Sort of.]

Hello!

[He waves at the video feed and straightens his hat.]

My name is Luke. I just woke up here, and I'm a little bit confused as to...well, as to everything, honestly. It's always best to start an investigation by asking people around town, and this little phone makes that a lot easier!

[Luke glances behind him and then points.] I'm outside the library. I didn't go around the whole city yet, since it's so huge. But if anybody has anything important that I should know, I'd really appreciate it!

[Luke fidgets just slightly in his seat. He's very set on seeming calm but the facade is wearing thin.]

And I suppose I have to find the Professor. And place to live...and somewhere to work...

So, if anyone can help at all...

Nnnnot really ringing any bells.

[Which is kinda a shame, seeing as he'd like to help and can't; Luke's a kid, and has an earnestness that reminds him of another of his friends.]

If I see him, you'll be the first to know. The name's Riku, and take it from me, these guys will rent out to anyone with money.

[There is a slight pause, and then he sighs. Luke is generally collected enough to know that he needs to calm down. Besides, if he wanted Riku's help then it is important for him to provide information that could be helpful. Right?

That doesn't make him sound any more confident when he speaks, however.]

His name is Professor Layton. If...if you see him, that would help a lot.

[Finally, Luke crumples behind the camera and looks away from the screen. He's overwhelmed. Too much happening, now, for him. Too many weird things. Unfortunately for any friendly faces that come along to talk to him, that means they get to hear a combination of Luke's attempt to keep it together and his slow meltdown.]

I'm Luke. Thank you for your help, Mr. Riku.

Woah, hey, it's just Riku, okay? I'm not your old man.

[No sir, no mister, he's only a few years older than you, jeez!]

S-sorry!

[He fidgets behind the screen, puttering with his hat.]

The professor says a gentleman is always proper, but I suppose if you don't like being called mister than it's all right not to! Right?

[Right, Riku? Of course!]

Right.

[He means that in the reassuring way, not the sarcastic one. The corner of Riku's mouth twitches in a smile he barely manages to suppress, because this Luke's pretty frank and earnest, and it's hard not to like.]

In the meantime, don't sweat finding this professor too much. Chances are if he shows up, he'll be asking on this device, same as you.

[He elaborates.]

Worry about yourself. Besides, your friend's gonna worry if he shows up and you're run ragged or sleeping on the sidewalk, right?

Gentleman can't sleep on the sidewalk!

[Huff.]

So long as they will rent me a flat, then I won't have to.

[Aaand there is a little pause.]

...but I'm not sure how one goes about renting a flat. Do you just...ask?

Yeah. Can't say that'd help a 'gentleman's' image any.

[There's absolutely no use in disguising his own amusement; Riku pauses to chuckle, nodding.]

It's that easy. Pick something small and cheap, your money goes further. A guy's still gotta eat.

[He starts to bristle--Riku better not laugh at his goal of being a gentleman! But it's gone when the suggestion about food comes up.

At that, he grins.]

That's right! You have</i. to make sure you eat well!
