First Puzzle | Action, Video

[Luke is a rather calculating young man, all things considered. As such, he's already been awake from his odd slumber in the bay for quite some time before he decides it's time to test the video feed out. He's sitting on a bench outside of the library--libraries are always a good place to figure things out--when he turns the feed on. For a thirteen-year-old suddenly stranded in a new city, he seems rather calm.

Sort of.]

Hello!

[He waves at the video feed and straightens his hat.]

My name is Luke. I just woke up here, and I'm a little bit confused as to...well, as to everything, honestly. It's always best to start an investigation by asking people around town, and this little phone makes that a lot easier!

[Luke glances behind him and then points.] I'm outside the library. I didn't go around the whole city yet, since it's so huge. But if anybody has anything important that I should know, I'd really appreciate it!

[Luke fidgets just slightly in his seat. He's very set on seeming calm but the facade is wearing thin.]

And I suppose I have to find the Professor. And place to live...and somewhere to work...

So, if anyone can help at all...

[Fai was currently leaning against a table, his own phone lightly pressed up again something for the time being so that his hands were free to do other things.]

You should have a key to an apartment, so that should be your place to live for the time being... Until you find suitable work of course.

[Luke nods, a small frown on his face.]

It's important to know everything I can, especially since it's just me for now! Unless the Professor is here, I supposed.

[Though if Layton was here, Luke would have hoped he'd contacted him already...]

Information is always a good weapon to have as well, but in this case, it's just useful to understand this place.

So what do you know so far and what would you hopefully like to know now?

[He shrinks slightly behind the camera, a small frown on his face.]

I don't even know where to start..

I should warn you, there is more than one city. There are five overall so if you thought Genessia was big, wait until you see the others.

[Not the most reassuring, but the best way to letting someone know before they surprise themselves later.]

Oh.

[Luke fidgets behind the camera. There is a lag in his attempt to remain confident and calm, but eventually he smiles weakly.]

Well...is there a map somewhere, then...? That's at least somewhere to get started!

A map... I think there might have been with the leaflet, but if there isn't I think someone should make one to help others.

[She can't exactly recall if she had a map or not.]

Um...okay!

I'm sure I can find one from someone. I bet other people want maps too!

[Yuuki was finally going to her lunch break from the library and as she started to leave she happened to notice the young man sitting outside the library. Or at least on a bench near the library. She she walked closer she noticed that she had never seen him before, even as a possible native, so in order to figure this out she moved closer.]

Hello there. [Said with a smile as she went and stood in front of him.] You seem a little lost, are you new?

[Luke, who is puttering with the phone in his hands, looks up at the stranger with a weary smile.]

Ah--hello, Miss! I am new.

[Swinging his legs reveals both the fact that they are too short to reach the ground and that his shoes and socks are soaked--indicating the recent trek through the bay.]

I just woke up here...

[She could tell now that he was new which mean he didn't know much about this place much like she didn't when she first arrived.]

We all do that when we all first arrive. It's quite strange isn't it? If you need help, I can try and help. I mean after all no one likes to not understand the situation.

It is. I feel like I've been sleeping for ages.

[In fact, his head felt fuzzy, and heavy. He rubbed his eyes.]

It's a lot to take in at once...how do we even end up here? What about our friends back home...?

[Why yes there is a talking yellow pony with a pink mane saying hello.]

Nice to meet you Luke, I'm Fl-Fl-Fluttershy. [She finally got it out at least.] The phone does make talking to people easier, especially for me... [Who finds it hard to interact with people face to face still.]

But as for work, you can always do something you are good at. I did.

[Luke, who talks to animals in his home world, is completely nonplussed by the talking yellow pony. He smiles at her, puffing himself up to appear calm and collected. The longer he's spent sitting on this bench, the more nervous he's become.]

Hello Miss Fluttershy.

[The small boy fixes his hat, mostly for something to do. It was straight before he touched it.]

I...well, I'm still in school at home. I'm not sure what sort of work I can do.

[It was a first for people not to be weirded out, but she was kind of glad that to be the case.]

Oh, I believe there is a school around somewhere you could go to and maybe staying with someone who works might help house wise.

I don't know anyone to stay with.

[It comes out almost as a whine, but it's more nerves than anything else really. How is he supposed to have somewhere to stay? What is he supposed to even do? He tries to force a little smile.]

I guess I have to make friends fast!

[It took a few moments for Midboss to open up a video feed. Slowly, but surely, he was regaining his confidence after his defeat.]

Let me see... Genessia City is fairly stable for the most part, unlike Everglade. Fayren is rather pleasant, as well. I have a fair few friends there. Nova City is far more high-tech, but it does not have the same charm as the other worlds.

Ah...also, if you happen to meet anyone by the name of-- of L, Lucifer, it would be in your best interest to avoid him.

[Luke leans in slightly, peering at the small screen.]

Hello Mr...

[He pauses. Mr. Dark Adonis? Mr. Vyers? Mr. Dark Adonis Vyers?]

Mr. Vyers...

[Off the screen, it's clear that Luke is scribbling notes on what Vyers is telling him. He does so without question, until the comment regarding Lucifer. His voice is nervous when he speaks again.]

L...Lucifer? As in the name for the devil that they use sometimes, Lucifer?

[A+ Vyers Luke is inordinately terrified of the supernatural! Even when he pretends he's not!]

Mr. Vyers will be fine.

[Noticing Luke was scribbling down his comments, Midboss slowed his voice to give him time to write it all down.

It was a bit of a relief to see him wary at the sound of the name, though. That would mean he was more likely to avoid him, he hoped.

How Luke would respond to the idea that he was talking to a demon now on the other hand, was anyone's guess.]

...Yes, the same one. He is in this world, as well.

Woah. Take it one thing at a time. Worry about working later, that's what the money in your welcome kit's for.

[Which is awfully considerate of their captors, whoever they are, allowing them the luxury of breathing space to take care of their immediate needs while looking for a way to cope with the unknown length of their stay.]

What's this professor look like? Maybe someone's seen 'em.

But that money won't last forever. And I don't know if a building would let me rent an apartment!

[Because he's a kid. Really.]

The Professor?

[With both hands, Luke draws the outline of a figure in the air. He gestures to try and indicate what he means, but it probably isn't coming through particularly clearly.]

Well, he's taller than me, and he wears a dark top hat with a stripe on it. And he likes to solve puzzles. He's very good at solving puzzles!

Nnnnot really ringing any bells.

[Which is kinda a shame, seeing as he'd like to help and can't; Luke's a kid, and has an earnestness that reminds him of another of his friends.]

If I see him, you'll be the first to know. The name's Riku, and take it from me, these guys will rent out to anyone with money.

[Hark, that looks to be a very young child in trouble Maka he's not that much younger than you! Naturally, Maka's latent big sister instincts come in and she has to attend to it.]

Hey there, Luke. I actually work in the library, do you mind if I come out and talk to you?

That would be nice, miss!

[Luke is smiling politely at the video feed, and he nods. An actual real face, in person, instead of this newfangled phone thing? Luke preferred that, hands down.]

I think I'm just outside the main entrance.

[video] --> [action]

All right! I'll be there in a second.

[And so the video flips off and a few moments later, a teenage girl comes out of the main entrance. Nothing special, but friendly-seeming at least. When she spies Luke, she waves and trots on over to him.]

I'm Maka, by the way, you don't have to call me "miss." How'd you end up at the library?
