A common misconception perpetuated by those too ignorant or imaginative to write the truth in their books.

Kind of seems that way. It's not an uncommon occurrence where I'm from. But an Academy for training gifted people, my Pops had a school like that. I my world, I'm what you'd call a mutant. A human born with a thing called an X-Gene. A lot of us have powers and or physical mutations that set us apart from the regular world.

My Pops made a school for people like us where we could go to and be safe, because regular humans aren't exactly fans of us.

It's important that all living beings embrace those differences that spring up. It's your adaptability and changeable natures that make you such hardy beings, after all.

The situation of these people with this 'X-Gene' you speak of, they remind me of the Weapons of my world, and how some humans, fearing what they didn't understand, persecuted them.

How ironic it must have seemed to them that these same Weapons would eventually become the right hands of those who tirelessly defended them from those that would threaten civilization. It was a sad chapter of our world's history, but one I am glad to have put behind us.

Lucky for those people in your world. It's still a rampant issue with mutants. I don't know that it will get any better, come some mutants are arseholes and do nothing by antagonize normal humans. Though humans don't treat us any better. It can get pretty dangerous depending on the powers that we pack and our level of control.
