[Can’t a bloke fade from existence without ending up in some place that he didn’t plan to be? This was hardly what not existing should look like. Unless he died instead of fading from existence. Then that would make this place Hell or possibly Heaven. He’d assume the latter. He just finished reading the little flier, and he’s finding the stuff a wee bit hard to swallow. So after messing around with the device for a while, he decides to say something.]

So what the piece of shite pamphlet said is true. Someone just brings our arses here and dumps us off here? And for what? None of you figure out that bit of info yet? There’s gotta be a purpose for all this.

[It's a weird hair convention, and both David and this kid with three white stripes wrapping around half a head of black hair are in attendance.]

Regrettably, that's a detail none here have been able to divulge yet. Not for a lack of effort, mind.

You'll do well to keep the medallion you will certainly find on your person, as it is your way through the archways that lead to other areas connected to the main city.

You're in luck, as I happen to be able to demonstrate.

[The phone sweeps away from Kid's face, showing a blurry image of a city street before settling on a grand archway.]

This one in particular leads to Everglade, known by most to be somewhat dangerous for the unprepared.

[Lingering there a moment, it eventually turns back to Kid.]

Although I suppose it's better if introductions were made. My name is Death the Kid.

[The young man lifts his eyebrows at that, as if the concept was utterly alien to him. Indeed, when you're raised in Death City where skull motifs are en vogue and local slang would have definitely fit the bill of morbid.]

A pleasure, Mr. Haller. I was named after my late-but-no-less-exalted father, whose role as Lord Death I have recently assumed.

[So matter-of-fact.]

[Although muted, Kid's expression seems one of pleasant surprise.]

Precisely and exactly.

[Isn't it nice when you don't have to go on and on explaining what you are? What a delightful surprise.]

Where do you come from, if I might ask?

[It's not common around here that someone identifies a reaper on 'hello', after all, he's curious.]

video;

[personal profile] symmetrophile 2014-09-15 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that explains everything.

[A satisfied nod, and Kid moves on, assured that his awareness of reapers was a product of his origins. After all, Lord Death did make his base of operations in North America.]

Non-existence? What a waste of a soul. Tell me, why would you seek your own eradication?

Then....Seriously that hair defies logic. It's like a permanent bad hair day. I feel sorry for you.

It depends on the person.

[But something like this tends to happen about nine times out of ten.]

Everyone is different.

Two lives and an afterlife between have taught me one thing: Not everything has a purpose and some stuff just sucks. Though on the scale of sucking this is pretty low-level suck.

With a few exceptions, it's a pretty normal world full of abnormal people. And a bunch of people who get second chances from being dead, too.

[personal profile] tenminutes 2014-09-23 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, realistically I don't know that you could call anyone "normal" if they're a real human being. Have you ever spoken to someone who was actually totally normal? It's creepy and it's usually fake. But aside from that point, abnormal in this case means something along the lines of "spectacularly good looking" or "crazy superpowered demon" or "guy who has an extraordinary obsession with yo-yos."

[ Okay, there wasn't anyone she knew who had a thing for yo-yos, but it was an example. ]

That's the same for me, but there are other kinds. As for the spectacularly good looking, they're in abnormally concentrated amounts. Not everyone here looks like a celebrity, obviously, but it's honestly questionable how many people do.
