[ Ever seen Weiss smiling this big for this long? No? Most people haven't.

But most people also haven't seen her with a little teacup maltese in her hands either. ]

Everyone, I want you to meet Frost. [ She's trying to keep calm but as she talks more, the less intelligible it seems.. ] He's going to be wiving with me forevew and evew and evew~ Yes he iiis~

[ She can't seem to even stop petting him long enough to turn the feed off, so enjoy nearly 30 seconds of this dog getting pampered to all hell by Weiss's fingers. ]

[ oh. crap. zuko knows when he's fucked up, and this is definitely one of those times.

he mutters, "why am i still so bad at being good?" under his breath and slides out of the window and into her room. ]

...sorry.

[ Weiss stays quiet for a moment, her arms crossed over her chest and her back to Zuko. Frost still hasn't stopped growling, even if it's the tiniest little growl in the world. After some silence from Weiss, she eventually turns around. She doesn't look like she feels much better, but she points at the dog. ]

Make up with him. I don't know a lot about dogs yet, so I don't know how to fix this, so you're going to have to.

[ b-but he's not good with animals!! ...no, that's a lie. zuko is actually wonderful with animals. appa adores him, taking every opportunity to slobber all over him or affectionately nuzzle him while zuko tries not to suffocate while being smashed between the bison's snout and the floor. ]

Okay, okay. Fine.

[ at the risk of being bitten, zuko moves up to the side of the bed and holds his hand out for frost to sniff in an act of contrition. he can't help that he smells like smoke, ash, and spice. it's a firebender thing. (he likely smells a bit like weiss, too.) ]

[ Weiss goes to grab a book from her dresser and sits on the bed, legs folded underneath her so that Zuko and Frost have most of the bed. She's not going to leave them alone in the room since she doesn't want Frost to feel like she abandoned him with the big scary fire-breathing man.

Frost seems to be scrambling back and forth between running toward Weiss, being nudged back toward Zuko by her, then confusedly barking at Zuko as he holds his hand out. At least the little dog seems to be slowly inching toward him during the barking. ]

[ zuko holds his ground, filled the the same sort of determination he was when he descended the face of the cliff to the air temple hanging beneath it in attempt to gain the avatar's trust. except this time, he didn't have a sky bison that adored him or blind earthbender to vouch for the validity of his sincerity. ]

[ Frost gets close to a point, whimpering instead of barking for a couple of moments as though he's not sure if he should go closer and Weiss looks up from her book to watch the two of them. After another moment or two of the dog apparently being too skittish now to approach Zuko, she lays down on her stomach on the bed next to the dog, holding out a hand to put over Zuko's. She isn't sure it'll work, but maybe Frost trusts her enough by now to see that he can trust the people she trusts.

It's entirely possible that she's just being impatient or hopeful, but at the very least Frost stops growling, even if he's not excitedly approaching like he has with anyone else he's met. Frost makes a couple of huffing sounds and takes two steps forward, then one back. ]

[ with weiss willing to touch him again, zuko tries a new approach. he laces their fingers together and holds their joined hands out, closer to the dog's snout. ]

See, Weiss likes me. [ he shot her an apologetic look. ] Hopefully she still does.

[ Frost whimpers and barks at the new approach, even if Weiss hasn't said anything just yet, and he ends up running in a circle before barking at their hands again, then quieting down and sniffing them slowly.

Weiss waits to actually respond to Zuko, unsure if she wants to be done tormenting him for screwing up yet. It appears that she decides in his favor, since she nods. ]

I still like you.

Good. [ he tilts his head towards weiss's, an innocent tap of his forehead against hers. ] You liking me is one of the reasons I still get out of bed in the morning.

[ and a significantly better reason than making sure his sister didn't decide to throw her amicable approach out the window and stage a hostile takeover. ]

I won't bend at you anymore. Promise. [ zuko edges their joined hands a little closer. ] I'm not actually a dragon. Dragons would've use windows. They'd knock.

[ Weiss doesn't smile at the gesture, but she at least stops looking upset and she doesn't pull away from the closeness this time. ]

What about the mornings you don't see me?

[ Frost didn't actually get hurt from the fire, luckily, so while he's reluctant he ends up sniffing their hands a bit more, deciding that Zuko's might be okay after all, even if it smells funny. But just to be on the safe side, he'll lick it as a test. Meanwhile, Weiss is giving Zuko a doubtful look. ]

Zuko, I don't think dragons can fit through doors or windows.

I get out of bed in hopes that I see you. [ or maybe he just rose with the sun as a good firebender should, but that doesn't necessarily mean he got out of bed. waking up is not the same as leaving the bed.

he smiles at the dog when frost licks his knuckles. he's slowly warming up to the idea of a dog that's just a dog, just as frost is warming up to him. ]

That's not the point. Dragons are honorable, noble. They'd knock. It's the proper thing to do.

Are you trying to sweet-talk me so I feel better? [ Because it's working.

Frost's tail isn't wagging yet, but it's come out from between his legs at least. He's also trying to nudge his way between their hands, apparently. ]

What would they knock with?

I'm being honest so you feel better. [ something weiss will quickly learn about dating zuko: he can actually be something of a lovesick sap, given the right moment.

he lets the dog nudge in between them, curious to see what he'll do. his fingers unlace from weiss's, hovering in the air just to the side of the dog's head. ]

Their tails. [ he says this as if he's suddenly a dragon expert by virtue of being one of three people to actually meet the surviving dragons. ]

It's working.

[ Weiss takes her hand back once Zuko releases it, tucking her elbow in to more properly prop herself up on the bed. The dog seems to decide that nudging Zuko's with his nose in an attempt to get pets is exactly how Zuko can make up scaring him before at that point. ]

So the honorable thing to do is to tap on someone's door with your rear end if you're a dragon. [ It's entirely possible that she's trying to get a rise out of his logic more than make fun of dragons. ]

[ the turtleducks would do something similar when they wanted their feathers ruffled, so it's not hard for zuko to guess at what the dog wants. he gently scratches the creature's head, finding the fur to be softer than its coarse appearance. ]

Their tails are long. [ zuko says, shooting her a look from the corner of his good eye. ] They wouldn't necessarily have to turn around to knock with their tails.

[ Frost seems to find this satisfactory, trying very hard to lick the inside of Zuko's wrist in appreciation while he gets pet. ]

If you really want to find out, we can just ask.

[ Weiss rolls her eyes and gets off of the bed, going to her dresser where there's a red and white ball lifted on a holder by ribbons. She unties the ribbon. ]

Come on. Leave Frost in here.

[ —wait, ask them? what's that she just picked up? having been in trouble with her just minutes prior, zuko doesn't bother to ask. instead, he obediently rises from his spot and follows weiss to wherever it is she's leading him, leaving frost sitting on the bed. ]

[ Frost looks like he wants to follow, having come to the edge of the bed, but has also decided that the drop was far too steep to continue so he just barked after them, whimpering. Which was just as well-- Weiss needed him to be capable of being alone for periods of time since she was going to have to leave sometimes, plus after Zuko's little firebending fit, a giant firey dragon probably wasn't the best thing to introduce him to.

Once Weiss had the ball, she started heading out the front door, pocketing her keys and scroll (just in case). Once they were both outside the door, she closed it and pressed the button on the front of the ball.

..And out came a Charizard, who stomped a couple of times excitedly for being out then looked at Zuko, putting his face close to the boy's to check him out. The boy smelled like fire, he was probably pretty okay by Charizard's standards. ]

Hey, Char. [ She'd taken to calling him that since he was Charmander, then Charmeleon, then Charizard.. 'Char' was the common factor. ]

[ zuko balks at it, his mouth falling open in shock. she— this whole time, she's had—

he whirls on weiss. ] You've had a dragon this whole time and you never said anything!?

Technically he's a Pokemon, not a regular dragon, so it slipped my mind.

[ Whoops. ] I used to have a bird pokemon that was bigger than I was too, but he went back to his world. Charizard decided to stay with me.

It's still a dragon! A dragon that you've been keeping in a tiny ball this whole time.

[ zuko is more upset about charizard's pokéball confinement than charizard is. ]

That's where he lives! I think he shrinks, but he's never complained about it.

[ She pauses looking pointedly at Charizard. ] And you complain as badly as I do when you don't like something, so it's probably fine.

[ At that, Charizard crosses its arms and huffs some fire out of its nose at the accusation. ]

[ zuko watches the giant lizard cross his arms and huff fire, an interesting mirror image of himself when he does the same. ]

Is that what I look like when I do that?

You're less orange when you do it.

[ zuko huffs a blast of fire of his own — from his mouth, not his nose — just because he can. ]
