Ninth invocation; video

[betel_geuse]

Betelgeuse floated above a bed. He didn't know who owned the bed, but he was borrowing it for a bit. He tended to switch which house he was haunting, whenever he got bored. A big danmaku event was coming up, but it was taking time. Idly, he flipped through the videophone, reading and playing people's messages and randomly throwing out comments. After a while, he began his own video.

"YO, GENESSIA...and well, the other places, too. How are you babes and fellas getting on? Gotta admit, your resident Ghost with the Most is a tad bit bored. NOW. I could just come up with some brilliant scheme to prank you all, because honestly, you need some shaking up. I've been listening in on some of your messages on this thing, which is the best gossip hotline I've ever seen, I gotta say.

Where was I?

Ah, yeah, yeah, anyways, it's just too damn quiet, know what I mean? SO, instead of pranking you, I'll give you a chance to distract me. I don't care how. JUST MAKE SOME DAMN NOISE ALREADY!"

[ it's not his bed, thank the sages, but the g-word has caught zuko's attention. he knew that betelgeuse was otherworldly somehow, but he didn't realize he was a spirit — or something like one. ]

We kinda have a different idea of what spirits are supposed to look like where I'm from.

[ as if he were an expert on spirits. all he's seen are depictions from scrolls and nightmare causing bedtime stories of koh the face stealer. an avatar, zuko was not. just the great-grandson of one. ]

I've only seen drawings, heard stories about what they look like... Well, I did see the Moon Spirit before she was a spirit, but I don't think that counts. She was a girl at the time.

"Eh, in a little green house, a few blocks off main street. Just, y'know, hanging out a bit. I've haunted worse places."

Ted fooled around with his comm and his maps, trying to pinpoint the location. It wasn't quiiite the time of year for this, but why not? Just to make sure he didn't have the wrong guy, he sent another message about an hour later, having put up a curtain hiding something in front of the house's window.

"Nah, nah, not walking dead," Betelgeuse corrected. "I'm not a walking corpse. My old bones are somewhere in England. I'm a ghost...all spirit, no flesh, y'see."

Wow...I've never met a real ghost before! [Even in a world of reincarnation and spirits he's never been completely sure ghosts exist. But here he is, sorta face to face with one]

[She's going to actually show you something interesting this time!! Well, maybe. It's a rather lovely lower cave with various strips of mineral deposits. But the way a soft glow just behind the camera reflects off the surfaces makes it look like a cave full of raw gemstones.]

Make some noise? I could make a whole mountain range spout fire or even explode... But why? It's beautiful.

Betelgeuse sits up, grinning. "You robbing a diamond mine? I could give you a hand or three!"

"Why would I rob a diamond mine? Diamonds are cheap and cut glass looks just as pretty." The camera is going to swing around to a 10-foot tall deposit that looks suspiciously like a strip of bacon.

"Huh. I'd like to spend a bit of time in your world, then. On my world, diamonds are EXPENSIVE, being rare and all. Gotta argue about the glass though. A good diamond shines way more," Betelgeuse said, shrugging. "Where are you and what is that?"

So the guy could float. Great. Roman mentally added 'ghosts' to the list of things that really shouldn't exist, but apparently did in this city. He clicked on the voice recorder, because it seemed like a bad idea to let a bored ghost see where he was.

"Ghost with the most what, exactly?"

"Juice! Mojo! Magic!" Betelgeuse proclaimed, proudly. "I'm a spookster and prankster extraordinaire! You up to anything good?"

"I've got a couple of things in the works. Just waiting for the right opportunity, but I think the wait is almost over."

It had better be. Cinder was going to tie him down with other work if he waited too long. He and Neo had finished scouting locations last night though, so now he just had to sketch out a plan.

"What kind of magic does a spookster extraordinaire use, exactly?"

[betel_geuse]

"The ghost kind," Betelgeuse answered, shrugging. "It's just something ghosts can do. Though, living folk might be able to do magic, too. I know in my world they can see ghosts. They just don't, so magic might be the same."

Let's go buy all the fireworks we can find and set them off at the same time.

"I love the idea, but do we hafta buy them? I don't have that much money, right now. We'll get a bigger explosion, if we snatch a few."

We could make them from scratch probably, but you're going to have to light them if we do that so I don't end up exploded on the sidewalk.

"Oh, sure, sure, no problem! Only thing is where would we get supplies? Not a lot of stuff in the homes I've been haunting."
