[Locked to Satsuki] A Belated Birthday Gift
It had been a full five days since Bakuzan vanished. Satsuki had gone to bed with the sword in its usual place and, upon waking, it had disappeared with little trace. What's more is Koishi had also failed to appear during that time-frame. And she wasn't just invisible. She had never failed to leave her hat in a place where Satsuki would find it if she was present but unseen and this was not the case. Even Satori would deny having seen Koishi though it was apparently not unheard of for the unconscious youkai to vanish occasionally for weeks at a time.
However it was just past dinner time when Satsuki would hear the echos of a familiar voice nearby. A familiar black hat was placed upon Satsuki's head. It would take some focus but the little green haired satori would slowly manifest, glowing, as usual, with excitement, her third eye already floating invasively into Satsuki's space.
"Miss White! Hey! Miss White? Can you hear me?"
She had something strapped to her back. Tied with a grey cloth rope was a very familiar sheath with a somewhat unfamiliar handle sticking out of it... God dammit Koishi...

Thankfully that time never came, and Satsuki once again is sitting at the dinner table (adorn in very casual pants and shirt) with her face buried in the palms of her hands- She's tired again. The butterfly sensation is so annoying. She still can't think of a way to get in contact with Koishi. Then she feels the hat atop her head, which causes her to quickly look in Koishi's direction the moment the 'M' in Miss is pronounced.
The gaze fixed upon the little satori is anything but friendly; pointed and narrow. Her face takes a light shade of red, her hands are balled into fists, but her tone is eerily calm. ".. What did you do?"
no subject
Of course it didn't last, though the little youkai seemed a bit more on guard, her shoulders tense. "I said I would get you a birthday present, didn't I?"
She reached up and untied the cloth rope, reaching back and grabbing the hilt just under the guard, handling it carefully as she brought it around in front of her. She looked down at it for a brief moment before taking a small step forward, offering it to Satsuki.
A metal stripe had been added to both sides of the sheath containing an intricate engraving and possibly some form of lettering. The wrap on the handle had been replaced with a slimmer one made from white leather and carefully edged in gold twine. It had been done up in a slightly more traditional fashion leaving gaps to expose the handle which now appeared to be made from some form of grayish white bone.
The pommel was entirely different now sporting a sapphire held by a ring of metal covered in masterfully cut designs of legendary beasts. Likewise the guard had received a similar style however its primary shape and design had not been greatly altered so it could still fit in the sheath as it was supposed to.
"I brought it to the best weapon-smiths in old hell and got it all fixed up."

It goes without saying that this isn't really what she had expected at all upon it's return, the scabbard is gripped tight then she stands as she looks the new designs over- Of course she can appreciate tradional, and she recognizes the modifications as such pretty much immedietly. It's impressive.
Very impressive.
However it's incredibly difficult to really enjoy when she's so aggravated with the small youkai that she's starting to feel a headache coming on. Her other hand grips the handle then slowly unsheathes the weapon with a smooth and surprisingly satisfying whisking sound. The blade is brought low, then swung in a very quick, diagonal direction.
".. The weight has been altered." she murmurs as the table she was sitting at falls apart in two halves, sending dishes, cups, silverware, and candles and flowervase all clattering to the ground.
no subject
Regardless Koishi hopped back as the table was cut, hands wrapped around to her third eye, holding it close. She didn't seem to be scared really. She just wanted to make sure that her arteries were well out of the way
Closer inspection of the blade would reveal the cause. The blade's pattern was different. As before the hardened and straightened life fibers were present but the blade now had a strange sheen to it. Like oil on water. The weapon's handle hand't just been replaced. The blade itself had been completely reforged.
"The nice oni with the broken horn said that it was made of strings. I dunno what that means but it wouldn't work for some reason. So I brought him a sword from the mouth of the hell of blazing fires and he took some metal from that. It's kinda heavy."
The blade almost seemed to be humming in Satsuki's hand, the sapphire in the hilt glowing dimly, slowly fading as the power gradually dissipated.
no subject
"No, it is.. Fine. I have never known the craft of such a skilled swordsman; the difference is... Extraordinary." she confesses. The scabbard is set upon the table so she can inspect the blade even closer, this time standing under better lighting as she does so. "Komeiji. Can you write?"
no subject
There was indeed something else present within the blade. A deep rich metal causing that strange oily shine. It actually varied in different parts of the blade giving the reflective quality an almost rippling effect.
What's more the blade had a faint aura about it that seemed to flicker and change with Satsuki's thoughts. Magic was directed and drawn out by the user's concentration, focus, and willpower so it made sense that it would be the case here too.
There was a small clack as Koishi set Bakuzan's old handle next to the sheath. "The magic is very simple and can be stretched or projected and then hardened and moved. It can't go really far and its super basic because I told them you didn't use magic before. It's really stable so it shouldn't burn out unless you do way too much with it for days and days."
no subject
She sees something but she isn't really certain what she's looking at until Koishi explains- and suddenly she's very excited. She had always been looking for ways to combat magic and it would seem that the first step has been placed into her hands at long last. The bad news is it does not appear to be reproductable in a manner she's capable of controlling at the moment. "So, in theory, this weapon could defend against magics such as danmaku without breaking?"
no subject
She did perk up at the mention of "danmaku" though she still seemed a little confused. She wasn't used to dealing with people who knew absolutely nothing about magic. "You could use a tree branch to defend against most danmaku. It's non lethal. The magic on Bakuzan could defend against bigger things when you know how to use it."
Koishi had finally relaxed completely and was back to her usual smiling self. At least now that Satsuki didn't seem to be angry at her. "I'm glad you like it Miss White. You're full of very pretty stars right now. It makes me smile."
no subject
Also it sounds like at some point she's going to have to pay a visit to this 'Old Hell'. But why does she suddenly picture Ryuko the more she thinks about oni?
"I believe I understand; this should more than enough. A note of thanks is certainly in order." The compliment seems to go ignored for the moment, focused a little more on trying to do.. Something magical. "There is a pencil and a notepad on my desk. You can still write, correct?"
no subject
"Oh! A note! Yes!" She moved quickly over to the desk, shuffling through various things... making a mess... before she found the notepad. "I can write. My handwriting isn't very nice though. Sis has better handwriting..." She picked up a pen, staring at it for a moment, fiddling with it... "This is what you use to write? Right? Not a feather?"
no subject
Actually, that doesn't sound like a very good idea.
In the meantime she takes the scabbard from the table to reseath the weapon. "That is fine, it will not need to be fancy writing, merely legible." she replies, "And yes, that will do. It may be easier if you take a place to sit, Komeiji, this will be rather lengthy. Tell me when you are ready."
She gestures to the coffee table since the dining table is no longer of use.
(OOC: P.S. This is the layout of the first floor of Satsuki's apartment now!)

The little youkai took a seat and set the paper in front of her, ripping off a sheet from the pad and doodling a bit on it, fiddling with the pen, turning it this way and that, trying to figure out how it worked. It was an unusual show of forethought but payed off when she figured out the pen had to be clicked... and clicked... and clicked and clicked and clicked-
Well that didn't last long.
"Miss white. What do you want me to write?" click click. "You can come down into old hell with me and you can thank him in person if you want. The oni like humans that are brave and strong. And you're very brave and very strong. You have a great left hook." Probably referring to when Junketsu went crazy... At least the compliment was sincere.
no subject
"I.. See.." Satsuki has a feeling she had better consult Mamizou before diving headfirst into meeting oni now that she thinks about it. That could go horribly wrong in many ways if the folklore says anything. "Thank you." is her somewhat awkwardly delivered response to her left hook.
Following that she clears her throat, sets the scabbard upon the floor, then her hands upon the handle. "Write the following:"
"I shall"
"Not take"
"Things from"
"Miss White"
"Without asking first."
One that is done, she tells Koishi to read it back to her.

She turned her attention up to Satsuki again, frowning. "I gave Miss Music a note to give you from me that I was bringing Bakuzan to the Oni and wouldn't be around. But she wrinkled her nose at it and asked me what it was. I told her it was a note and she just got more angry."
Looking at Koishi's writing it was clear to see why. The characters were archaic and no doubt employed in ways that would not grammatically work in modern Japanese. It made sense though, considering how old Koishi was and the fact satori were further isolated in addition to that...
She read it back to Satsuki anyway, still looking confused and somewhat deflated.
no subject
First she gives an approving nod as it is read back to her, then speaks as her expression shifts to something more neutral. There is still steady annoyance swirling about her, but not nearly as much as before. "Is that so. Are you suggesting that it is Jakuzure's fault that your message did not reach me?"
no subject
"Miss White?" She turned to look fully up at Satsuki. "Why is the common writing here blocky and unattractive? Some of the letters are nice but others are really not. I like Japanese writing a lot better." The characters she used were rather pretty.
no subject
"I am greatful for your gift, Komeiji. This is something very special." she says, "However Bakuzan is a weapon that holds a specific purpose, and I did not know where it was for nearly a week. Information and communication are two of the most important aspects of survival, planning and teamwork. Whether Jakuzure lost the note or not, the failure to communicate is in your hands."
With that, she raises the sword enough to tap the end of her scabbard at the notebook. "-and for that.. You will be punished. Write that sentence twenty-four more times."
no subject
She spun around in the chair to face the table again, clicking the pen some more. "Ooookaaaaaayyyy." She didn't really seem at all upset about being punished. "Twenty-four is very very round. Can I write it twenty-nine times instead? I like prime numbers more right now." She had already started on the first line, writing this time in the more common language of Genessia. Her hand writing wasn't sloppy but it wasn't really neat either.
Oh gee whiz, sorry. @__@
Assuming that Koishi won't be speaking for a while (a very foolish thought, perhaps), Satsuki heads over to the kitchenette and starts to prepare another dinner. Overly simple, since it's just a salad this time around.
Gothorita is a bit late for the party, it seems! Once she comes from upstairs she notices the mess which she frowns at considerably. Looks like it's time to clean up.
Again.
She shoots an accusing look toward Koishi, then mutters as she heads off to the closet area.
It's all good :3
She finishes after only a few minutes, only glancing up once as Gothorita entered, sensing her displeasure. She then hopped to her feet, making her way over to Satsuki, offering her the note. "I wrote it thirty-seven times instead. I thought that was a better prime number."
She didn't wait for Satsuki to take it, placing it down next to her, floating around to the other side. Her third eye was bobbing happily. "When you're done we can go to the Oni city. Don't be scared, okay? The Oni don't mind humans... Well, strong humans anyway. And you're really really strong, okay?"
A pause... "You should probably wear Buggy though. He makes it so you can get hit with a building and not get hurt."
no subject
"Hmnn."
"The lore about oni from my world does not match up with what you are proposing. That is not to say that it is a definite 'no', nor that you are not telling the truth, but I would still prefer to have time to prepare." the Guardian murmurs while she continues to focus her gaze upon it. "Still, I appreciate your advice."
"So now I have a question for you: If you need something of mine, how will you obtain it without having to write thirty-seven times afterward?"
Poor Gothorita grumbles, then shuffles off to go get the cleaning supplies.
no subject
"Well, yeah. Humans would only have information from before the oni went away. But oni get bored without new things happening and a visit from a human is a new thing. On top of that you're an interesting human so the oni will love it a lot."
Koishi seemed to lapse for a moment, the presence flickering in Satsuki's mind before growing stable again. "Umm..." Her eyes unfocused, the little youkai fading out momentarily. "I'll tell you next time! Or leave the note on your table instead of give it to Miss Music so it doesn't get lost!"
Well... It was a step in the right direction at least.

As for her being interesting to an oni, Satsuki again seems hesitant. The last thing she needs is one of them following her home! Though she doesn't know all the rules of the gates yet, so she should follow up on that. But with all that aside, once Koishi declares what she'll do next time, a small smile forms, then she sets her hand upon Koishi's head with a gentle pat. A step, sure, but it was exactly what she expected (and wanted) to hear. "Magnificent."
Satsuki looks to the mess on the floor. "Then all that is left is to order some new furniture."
Oh jeez I forgot about this @_@
Koishi's face absolutely lit up when satsuki suggested they get new furniture. "Oh! I want to help pick it out, okay? I'm good at seeing patterns and colors and matching them!"
Looks like there will be shopping in their future...
Re: Oh jeez I forgot about this @_@
As for patterns and colors; "Is that so.." Satsuki will see about that. She's been interested in feng shui as of late so it's on like Donkey Kong.
