[Have a very confused looking Pokemon staring at the camera, with two crates of berries visible in the background, a scarf set with one of the crates.]

...I do not understand. If whoever left these berries here are expecting a favor in return for this, they will find themselves sorely mistaken. I will not turn them done, considering the weather, but I do not acknowledge any debts this may have been meant to put me in.

From what I've been told, Christmas is about giving, not giving and expecting something in return. I don't think whoever sent those is going to hold you indebted to them.

You left him out. You monster.

[personal profile] youfool 2014-12-26 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Dear God, but you're a Scrooge, with the one mercy that you've no Cratchit to lord over.

*laugh* Honestly, you're like a madman, seeking methodical purpose behind every innocent action. Still, if it's practicality you're after, then now's a great time to be less miserly.

Huh...?

[She looks honestly confused because--]

You didn't like them? I wasn't sure what color you'd like for the scarf, but I figured maybe it doesn't matter since you looked like you needed one anyway.

Re: Yes. He's a monster. A pocket monster to be precise.

[Good luck, Luke. Ted would be more methodical and prodding, but perhaps Luke's earnestness and childishness would go farther.]

Really were better than they more than likely...gah, there's a tongue twister for you.

Curious, to which humanity are you referring? There are so many kinds here. Mine, at least, claims it's about something else.

[ he got the trust part; zuko had his own set of trust issues, but he wasn't about to bring them up or compare them to mewtwo's own. ]

All I'm saying is that whoever sent you that probably did so with the best of intentions. Don't look a gift ostrich-horse in the mouth.

[SUDDENLY, ACTION! GDI KOISHI!!!]

[personal profile] koishi_komeiji 2014-12-26 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mewtwo's only warning would be a sudden chill run up his spine.

"Purple Psychic Thing! Hello! You look chilly..." It was koishi, bundled up against the cold in a heavier version of her usual outfit, the yellow replaced with white with an added caplet. She was also sporting a pair of matching green gloves. She had in one hand what looked to be a frosted white glass ball with a ring of red metal around the bottom as well as a basket looped around the other the contents hidden by a blanket.

"You didn't want to come visit me in Chireiden so I'm gonna come visit you!"

She sort of... let herself in, making her way deeper into Mewtwo's home, setting the globe down on the floor. Before he could object she removed her glove and placed her palm against it, the object flickering to life, radiating both light and heat.

I've not celebrated Christmas a lot at home. They do seem to be nicer on the holiday than they are for the rest of the year, but that doesn't mean it isn't done in good faith.

But I don't think that's a reason to be cross about it...someone was just trying to be nice. They thought the berries would be a good gift.

Is it bad for people try to be kind to one another, even if they're inconsistent? It's dangerous here--giant snakes eating buildings and Everyman trying to pit us all against each other. We have to work together if we want to survive here.

[Especially little humans like Luke...huff.]

We might be dealing with someone trying to slam all the Guardians and stuff, but I don't think everyone's going to start hating on everyone else.

Um...[transaction...] I guess if that's how you want to look at it, that's okay, but...I wanted to thank you for helping us out more than anything. I can't do much for you at the moment, but I'll do what I can.

Your present: a wall of text

[personal profile] youfool 2014-12-27 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ted couldn't restrain himself. He started off in that laughing, energetic way Mewtwo was making a habit of goading him into.

"Oh, how without empathy you are! Can you not see that we're all in the same boat?

Humanity's cruel god has latched us to the air. Even a few minutes without its constant sustenance will choke us and shrivel our lungs as we die, gasping for it.

Or water, that life-giving fluid. To go without it even for days is a torture and merciless death.

Alas, such lowly brutes are man that we cannot communicate without making garish noises. To use the crude instrument of sound to carry our monkey speech, such barbarity.

Did you know that man is born the most helpless of the mammals? It is true. Hardly a babe on earth can survive without, initially, a constant and hovering medical team. Sometimes even that is not enough. Our infancy lasts for years.

Our maturation is hardly better! Each of us must carefully, delicately construct communities full of each person slavishly devoted to this or that. For the needs and wants of humanity are numbered in the hundreds. The butcher, the cobbler, the green grocer, the farmer, yes, even the tailor. Oh, we are naked brutes, doomed to die a wintery death lest we accumulate furs and coats. It is to weep, the vast amounts of knowledge that must be carried by the many, just to sustain the one.

And we are earthbound, terribly grounded. Stairs and ladders and rocket ships, all necessary if we wish to go higher than we could jump. If only we could float or fly as the birds do, then maybe...but it is no good. Even then, we must go to our tools. Physically go to them, grasping them with our monkey paws. Our kinetics are woefully out of date.

But even with all that, it is not enough. It is not good for men to be alone; we die without each other. Not just presence, but touch. A baby, though he be as healthy as possible, will die without the affection of flesh. Humanity will go extinct should it ever tire of touch.

All this, this everlasting need, follows man from cradle to grave. We cannot birth ourselves, nor even bury ourselves. We cannot make apple pies from scratch, in the ultimate sense of that word. Need, need, and more need!

But you, at least, have escaped this dire bondage, and are to be congratulated. For you have, all on your own, created one thing without any outside input whatever: cynical theories that aren't true. Gifts as a means of enfeeblement. If such blasphemies are the fruits of independence, or self-reliance, or whatever euphemism you wish to trade for 'pride', you should reconsider the tree. Or at least, sample another. The Christmas tree will serve."

[personal profile] lookprofessor 2014-12-27 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow well okay then.

Luke might have had something to say to Mewtwo but he's completely silenced by Ted's explanation. Not that it wasn't true, or accurate--but he was surprised, really, by the ferocity with which he spoke.

So he's just kind of staring and blinking.

[Night again over Fayren and Bridget's having fun out over the waves. Or rather, she's looking for something in particular.]

It's a human festival involving a lot of giving presents of one's own free will without expecting anything in return. Which reminds me, I left you a pile of good dirt by the library for when the weather turns good again.

"Maaayyybe." She stepped back away from the sphere. Already the cave was significantly warmer. "This just means you can enjoy something that's warm instead of doing it yourself. I thought of you in the cave and was worried because you didn't ever come to Chireiden." A frown. "Please come sometime. It's more comfortable than here..."

She paused for a moment, eyes slowly drifting down to the basket. "Oh... OH! Sis made something for you too!" She reached inside and pulled out something wrapped in paper and string. She quickly untied it showing... a stack of reddish flat blocks? No... were those berries? Yes indeed they were. Berries that had been carefully made into candy-like bars. All things considered it couldn't have been easy...

"Sis used the nectar of flowers to sweeten the berries a lot and used some other things to change the flavor to something really delicious. I dunno what she used but we have lots of pets with sensitive stomachs and she was careful to only use things that don't upset any of them."
