1st Chapter | Action/Video
[Action]
[For a good three hours the new arrival sat frozen, not far from where he woke, too scared to move. This must have been a dream, and maybe if he refused to react to it, he'd finally wake up, back in his own room, where it was safe and the closest thing to reality shifting was the video games he played. That's how it worked, right?
It wasn't working.
After some pathetic sounds that sounded close to sobs, a fit where he outright panicked and shouted for his friends (or anyone) later, Mikoto steeled himself and stood up, gripping onto the folder like it was a lifeline.
He took two steps before he sat back down and retreated within himself again. Yeah, no, he's not going anywhere.
Still... He played with the videophone in his hand a little. At least one thing made some sense in this place. It wasn't too different from his phone back home. After some hesitation, he turned it on, his face barely visible and eyes averted to the ground.]

My name is Mikoto Mikoshiba and I need a job.

action
Found you. Let's go.
[ Mayu grabs his arm and starts to lead him away from the cave.]
action
He's also freezing, soggy attire leaving him even worse off than before. Annoyed, he yanks what he can feel of his arm back. Something about the situation leaves him discontent.]
Hold on a minute! I'll lead the way, and you'll handle the directions. Unlike you, I don't let stupid setbacks like these get the better of me.
[Good job, Mikoto. Nailed it.]
action
Can you drink?
[ There's another rare sight of Mayu showing emotion. He might start to cry if Mikoto continues to choose his pride over his life.]
Easier if I just take you. I'll carry you if walking's too hard.
action
What kind of question is that? Don't be so quick to underestimate me. This is nothing.
[The coffee does smell delicious. Gratefully, he begins to sip, becoming greedier once the warmth hits his tongue and then sinks down to his chest. It's a shame that with his shivering, he doesn't look cool at all.
What's this? Mayu offering to do something that requires physical effort? He supposes he can understand, at least a little. He can't imagine being in this place for any amount of time. Mikoto stares at him in awe...and looks away, marching forward.]
I can walk.
action
[ Mayu has no sense of shame or embarrassment. When he has to speak, he's direct. It's obvious that he's also trying to hold back tears.]
Drink it slowly.
[ He looks for the arrival packets, since he's doesn't think he can go back and find them later. That stuff is essential.]
[ Making sure a friend stays alive is something worth putting effort into. Yes, he does consider Mikoto a friend.]
Medical clinic's closer than my place.
[ He's hoping someone there can make sure Mikoto's body temperature either stays normal or gets back to normal.]
action
[He furrows his eyebrows, at a loss for what to do.]
Why are you upset?
[Well, the warmth is helping, so he tries not to shiver too violently while he drinks the coffee, eying Mayu from the corners of his eyes. The packets lie a few yards away, quickly discarded and forgotten.
He's still on about that? Stubbornly, he shakes his head, while his voice doesn't carry quite the same amount of flustered denial it normally would.]
I don't need a doctor and these doctors are probably evil.
action
If it's not that bad go straight that way.
[ He shows Mikoto where to go, and gives him directions. In his panic, he figures it's more efficient for Mikoto to start moving while he looks for the packet and leaves frantic messages to the people he can trust.]
The clinic is warm and dry.
[ Maybe that should convince him.]
action
[He thinks he got all that. Hazily, he begins to walk in the direction he was given, holding onto the blanket for all its warmth and stumbling every once in a while.]
Sure, see you around...Mayu.
[That sounded collected and cool enough, right? Maybe it will convince him, meanwhile, give Mikoto a chance to find someplace warm, without a lot of people.
Like a laundromat.]
action
[ Once he's sure Mikoto is heading in the right direction, he starts looking for the essentials all newcomers wake up with. It doesn't take him too long. He's not giving the older boy the change to evade him. He can be fast when he tries, while Mikoto is not that athletic. Mayu does catch up, and can now keep Mikoshiba from falling.]
action
He's sure he'll be fine once he reaches a warmer place. He forgets Mayu is there, not noticing his footsteps, solely focused on walking, not as frantic as he normally would be, when the coffee cup falls from his hands. Out of habit, he reaches out to try and catch the cup, arms outstretched, before it can hit the ground.]
action
Not too far. You can make it.
[ He's saying this in an attempt to calm himself. He keeps an arm around Mikoto to guide him to the clinic. Mayu's intimidating appearance keeps anyone from staring at them.]
action
[He looks up, momentarily surprised. He thought he had left. He manages to look a little embarrassed, hiding his face behind his fist.]
I broke your cup.
[He doesn't say much after that. Pride is a luxury saved for the clear-minded, and Mayu is stable, which saves him further humiliation. He keeps his eyes averted to the floor, unwilling to meet any stranger's. Normally, he'd probably be blushing right now, but he just holds onto Mayu's arm as if it were a security blanket.]
action
[ He bought the coffee on the way. If he wasn't so afraid, he might have picked it up to keep from littering. He's almost ready to just pick Mikoto up and carry him the rest of the way. The longer they're outside, the more heat is lost. He wants to put the arm grabbing him under the blanket, but that could be what's keeping Mikoto awake. They manage to make it to the clinic.]
We're here.
[ Indoors, with people qualified to help]
He's freezing.
action
Don't look at me.
[While one person explains what they'll have to do--which involves removing Mikoto from his current spot--another tries to gently pry the blanket from his hands to lead him away.]
action
They need to dry you off and warm you up.
[ He's struggling to keep from collapsing until he's sure Mikoto will be all right.]
action
Y...you should sit down. Or go rest.
[He's not sure if it's the cold, or fear that's making him tremble now. He wanted to say something else, but it dies on the tip of his tongue. He's lead to start the treatment, while another person offers a chair and a blanket, asking Mayu if he needs anything to drink.]
