009: Clearing the Rubble [Video, locked from Mercury, backdated to 30th March]

[The labyrinth mess over, Midboss could be seen sitting in his Attleton home, a large glass of wine in one hand.]

It would seem as if that awful maze has finally disappeared from Attleton. If anyone was waiting to return to the city, now would be a good time.

Merci beaucoup, to everyone who assisted me in clearing up the monsters and helped rescue those who were caught in the maze itself. It was truly appreciated. A toast, if you will, to their fine efforts!

[He raises his glass, before taking a large sip.]

If there is anyone who was injured, or had their homes or property damaged as a result of what happened, do let me know and I will do what I am able to resolve it.

Also, I wish to know what any of you can tell me about the individual calling himself 'Mercury'. I am a very powerful man, of course, but should he make an appearance within Attleton, or if I come across him in the other cities, having an understanding of his capabilities would be most helpful.

I do not intend to let people like that run free.

My sympathies; trouble and Attleton seem to be preternaturally attracted. Still, the maze must've had a certain charm to it. Was there anything good to find, or merely troublesome minotaurs?

Hah! Well, I can't say I'm surprised that Trouble has lined up to be one of your suitors, wretched girl though she is. Alas, if only you could court Peace or Serenity, the you'd be in business.

It certainly is not a favoured suitor of mine, I must admit! Although she does take me for quite the wild dates at the best of times...I fear Peace or Serenity might not keep me occupied for too long.

I don't know how much help I'd be with Mercury.. I clearly didn't know him as well as I thought I did, but.. I can try to answer any questions you have. He is- [ Her voice breaks for a moment, then quiets when she continues. ] Was my partner.

Thanks. He was a jerk, but I never thought he was.. [ She lets her words trail off, shaking her head. ] Just let me know if there's anything I can do to help. He's partly my responsibility... I don't know if I can bring myself to take him down, but I'll help in any way that I can.

Perhaps, if you could let me know about how he fights? Whether he has any supernatural capabilities, for instance?

He's a hard kicker. He always uses his feet, and his boots are guns. He has his aura, of course, which is something we all have from our world, and..

[ She sounds a little hesitant. Most people don't brag about their semblances, so everyone in their world tends to keep quiet about their teammate's unless the person openly uses it. Of course, she's not going to tell anyone what Mercury's actual semblance is. ]

He has his semblance. I guess there's no sense in keeping what it is a secret anymore, since we're not on the same team..

He has guns in his boots? That seems remarkably inefficient... you would think the recoil would cost him his balance.

What is aura, as far as it shows itself in your world? Likewise, semblance? I assume you do not mean his appearance or a facade?

You can learn to compensate for anything, and Mercury made a habit of using the recoil in his moves to improve his ability to dodge opponents and get out of range of counter-strikes after an attack. [ Amongst other things. She won't mention that he makes sure his legs are strong enough to handle any of that. It should just be implicit. ]

Aura is part of our souls in our world. It lets us amplify our attacks, protects us as an invisible shield, and heals our wounds when we're hurt. A semblance is an ability unique to each individual in our world that comes from our Aura. Most smart huntsmen and huntresses keep their semblance a secret instead of using them every chance they get. [ Like Team RWBY. Not that she'll specify that little dig at them. ] Mercury's involves superhuman jumping that allows him to amplify the power of his kicks by amplifying gravity during the fall of a jump.

[ Which is complete bullshit, but it sounds legit enough for their world that she's not worried about it being questioned. ]

Aha, clever... An interesting strategy, certainly.

[Midboss nodded, listening to how she described the concepts of aura and semblance. It all seemed logical enough, but as of yet, he had no evidence to suggest she was lying about what Mercury's powers were.]

So keeping him in the air or on the ground may work... hm. Well, I think I can work with that. I appreciate it, merci beaucoup.

I appreciate your help with Mercury. He doesn't seem to be in league with Torchwick, but I don't know how long that will last or if he was telling the truth to begin with.

Well, regardless of whether Torchwick and Mercury have an alliance, both should be treated as a threat from what I have seen.

[Midboss sighs, sipping his wine.]

They hail from your world originally, then?

That's a sentiment I'm inclined to agree with.

They both do, and whoever's picking who comes to this place really knows how to choose them. [ Mercury isn't the only one with sarcasm under his belt, even if Weiss doesn't typically use it anywhere near as often. ]

Although, with that in mind, I do wonder if there is a way to isolate them from each other…or perhaps turn them on other. That would tidy up this mess rather neatly.

Indeed, indeed. [A sigh.] Did Mercury ever do anything like this back home?

I didn't know him very well back home. He was with Haven, one of the schools visiting for the tournament. The most he really stood out was when he challenged Pyrrha to a fight, then ended up forfeiting because, like most others, he wasn't capable of beating her in a one-on-one fight. He helped us capture Torchwick, too, but otherwise? I didn't interact with him much before we were here.

[She had no idea herself, but never the less it was quite odd.]

Non... I get the feeling that unless it was simply an anomaly of this place, whoever caused it made sure they kept at a distance from the issue itself. Certainly a safe place to be.

So it wouldn't be easy to figure out who did it. It might forever be a mystery.

Perhaps, but I do hope we can find out for ourselves eventually. Leaving a mystery like this unsolved does not sit too well with moi.

I don't think anyone really likes an unsolved mystery. But if anyone is to solve it, I'm sure it will be you.

I'm glad things are back to normal there.

[He really was glad that well that city was back to normal and that he could finally test his duel disk out, but it was the other thing that has got him thinking currently.]

But when he sees Vyers post, he can't help but respond. If he'd been paying closer attention, he would've chosen to respond using the voice function--as it is, the weapon looks rather like shit. He's clearly exhausted, frazzled, and anxious.]

Don't know anything about a guy named Mercury. What's he been up to?

[At first, Midboss was delighted to hear from his old friend again - it had been a while since he'd spoken to Spirit, and was initially rather worried he'd disappeared.

As soon as he took more than half a second to look at Spirit's face, however, he grew worried. He really didn't look well.]

He killed a man over the Network and taunted everyone not to bore him.

...That aside though, you look as if you could use a drink. Now I'm able to get in and out of Attleton easily, perhaps we could catch up?
