004: Nighttime Wanderings/A Cage of Bones [Various Action, OPEN]
[Action 1, The Shrine, 8th May (early evening)]

[Izanami had some time before she was due to start work that day, so she finally made up her mind to go and visit the shrine on her way there. She was dressed in her work uniform, using her human guise as she always did in public. It was a peaceful day, and the sunset over the horizon gave the place a gentle golden light.
It felt a little strange, perhaps, to visit a Shinto shrine like this, considering she was a Shinto Goddess. Was it too egotistical of her? Who knows. For now, at least, she just wanted to make sure the place was being cared for responsibly.]
[Action 2, Schnee Company Welcoming and Travel Services, 8th May (night)]

[As usual, Izanami came into work in good time - just enough to have a cup of coffee and a friendly chat with her colleagues before her shift started. She sighed, folding her arms as she waited for the coffee machine to finish her drink.
She can be found greeting the newcomers at the front desk throughout the night, giving them advice on where to go and how to deal with their new situation.
After work, she takes her time slipping her coat and jacket on, in case anyone wants to talk to her before she leaves.]
[Action 3, Everglade City limits, 9th May (early morning)]

[She'd been considering this for a little while now, but never really had the opportunity. Truth be told, there was no reason this occasion should be better than any other, but today was the day she finally decided to investigate the barriers.
What was really stopping them all from leaving? As a Goddess, surely she had the power to break through whatever force was trying to trap them here?
She walked briskly through the crisp morning air, grey eyes focused as she strode closer and closer to the edge of the city. Finally, her foot bumped against something, something she couldn't see. Izanami reached out, fingers feeling that same resistance as they touched the air in front of her. She squinted, using both hands to try and feel around it.
An invisible barrier of some sort, it had to be…
A wave of dizziness hit her a moment later and she quickly withdrew her hands. That wasn't normal. Ahead of her, in the distance, all she could see was fog - not unlike that within the TV world itself.
She took a step back to regain her focus, before reaching out again, but moments later the same feeling of vertigo hit her and she pulled back.
Confusion was soon replaced with anger, eyes flicking to a blood red as she steeled herself for another attempt. She would not stand for this barrier mocking her like this. No one was around (or so she thought), so there was no harm in calling on her powers.
With both hands, she tried to push herself through the forcefield, ignoring the warning signs of her strength ebbing from the effort. With the cracking of bones, skeletal hands began to emerge from her back, shooting forward to try and push past the barrier as well.
But it was getting harder. Her vision was blurring, her human guise starting to dissolve in fog, revealing patches of red bone across her face, hands and body. Strength was ebbing away from her body, arms - human and skeletal - shaking from the effort to just try and keep pushing through.
Finally, she tore herself away, stumbling back and collapsing on the grass moments later. The skeletal arms curled around her like wilting flowers.]
[Action 4, Castlevania, 9th May (early afternoon)]

[When she'd finally managed to slip back to the Castlevania Archway, she stumbled a little as she headed into the open courtyard. Izanami couldn't hide the breaks in her human guise thanks to the loss of power, revealing once again the red, rotten bones beneath.
Her skeletal hands pulled the white burial shroud closer around herself. Right now, she just needed to rest and recover her strength. Whatever the barrier had done to her when she tried to break through it, the Goddess had been significantly weakened.]

Action 4, Castlevania
She straightened up with practiced grace once the goddess entered, not a fold of her uniform out of place, shutting the door quietly behind her. "Lady Izanami. You seem tired. I just started a pot of floral-peach tea. May I get you a cup of that? It goes well with honey. Or would you rather something more soothing? I just picked up a variety of ingredients so I can make whatever you wish.

Vlad had sensed something when Izanami had come through the gateway. Something was off. The being of Death had been put through her paces and in a rare moment, he had come off his throne to investigate personally. He stood atop a stairway that seemed to come from nowhere in the entry hall, a succubus hanging onto his arm, smirking sinisterly down at the goddess. She opened her mouth in what was sure to be a taunt about Izanami's appearance, but was silenced with a wave of Vlad's hand.
"I would hear how you came to be this weakened personally, Izanami. After all, it is not every day that you return to this castle with your human guise in such tatters."
no subject
"Yes...thank you, I would appreciate that. Floral-peach tea would be wonderful," she replied, finding she still had some strength in her voice at least.
It was then Dracula himself made his appearance, along with his...companion. Her blood-red eyes narrowed in warning as the succubus smirked in her direction, but thankfully Dracula had silenced any potential insults on her behalf. It was probably for the best.
"I underestimated the barriers surrounding the cities...the rest can be explained once we settle for tea."
no subject
"I will prepare the sitting area in the east wing." It wasn't as grand as the main dining hall, but it was much cozier and the perfect place to unwind. She vanished with a small nod of her head. In an instant the candles leading to the room in question had all been lit.
The room would be fully prepared when they arrived. The table would be set for three with the tea and a plate of tarts, tea-biscuits, and scones placed in the center. Truthfully, they were more there to add their aroma to the room considering the dietary needs of most of the castle's residents. Still, they would be delicious if eaten regardless. Sakuya had also moved an old phonograph into the room, its crackly, slightly upbeat music complimented by the crackling of the now lit fireplace.
"Is there anything else I can do for you?"
no subject
Once he had taken a sip, and was assured that Izanami had settled in as well,he turned his attention to Sakuya, motioning for her to join them for tea. "I would have you stay as well, Sakuya, so as to relay what is discussed to your mistress, rather than disturbing her."
e pauses for a moment, turning back to Izanami. "So tell me, Izanami, how is it that you have been injured so?"
no subject
Izanami took a seat opposite Dracula, keeping her eyes focused on the teacup whilst he drained his succubus' blood. It didn't seem polite to stare.
"Have you ever approached the barriers surrounding each of the four outer cities?" she finally asked, wondering where best to start. The fact that this world had so utterly defeated her was definitely sore on the goddess' ego.

"I see. My minions had similar results; the werewolves returning with their flesh decaying and the skeletons simply crumbling to dust as my power over them waned. It would seem that we are well and truly trapped here for the time being."
no subject
"Yours as well, how irritating... To believe there is truly a force that can trap beings like us here with such ease, it's unthinkable." Despite her exhaustion, a cold, bitter rage still slipped into her voice.
no subject
"This succubus, for example. There are many legends about demons seducing men with their whiles, appearing in their dreams and leading them to an eternal slumber. She can come and go within the realm of dreams as easily as you or I open doors. Such a thing should be impossible, let alone tamable, and yet here she is, bound to my will..."
The succubus lets out a soft gasp as Vlad turns his hand and thus cocks the demoness' head to one side, looking as if she feared he would snap her neck for sport. However, Dracula releases the succubus, who nervously bows and bolts out of the room.
"If there is one thing I have learned in my time walking among mortals, is that there is always something bigger and stronger than any given being..." he takes a sip of his tea. "...even gods."
no subject
He watched the demon leave, grateful to see the back of it. She, too, turned to her tea, sipping it quietly for a little while before responding. She hated to admit defeat. "...Perhaps. Yet it is not something I'm not accustomed to."
no subject
He held out his hand to the side, palm upward as a small hunched man falls from the ceiling into his hand. The creature would be no taller than two feet tall standing straight, but hunched as it is, he easily balances on Vlad's palm, jittering all the while like a bug.
"The Flea-Men for example, when I found them, they were mere annoyances to the larger demons. They lacked any intelligence, and were on the brink of extinction. Now, they hunt in swarms, augmented by the skeletons found throughout the halls and have devoured many a hunter that has come for my head. You simply need to find your direction for your next wall."
Action 2
That little interaction they'd had when she'd first interviewed the woman was what was setting Weiss on edge. She didn't want to think that this person was someone she couldn't trust, but the reality was that after what Mercury did to Armin, her trust issues had deepened. Roman Torchwick, the man who kidnapped and tortured her, was a known enemy. Mercury had been hiding, pretending to be their friend. Torchwick was a criminal who deserved to be punished, but Mercury had betrayed them. Different types of damage had been done, and that had been why Weiss had been keeping Myrtenaster at her side, even at work, despite that it was supposed to be an office building and despite that they had people specifically for security. Weiss had made sure her ammo was fully stocked. She wasn't going to attack Sen unless Sen attacked first, but she wasn't going to leave herself unprepared for the possibility that confronting her about whatever reality the woman was hiding would result in violence as much as she hoped it was just something she didn't want to share, as she'd originally assumed.
The small heiress approached the front desk calmly, reaching for the "We Will Return in X Minutes" sign and putting it on the counter. ]
We need to talk.
Action 2
The Goddess was aware, of course, that she had slipped up a little in the interview. Back then, she had no way of realising that Weiss would be able to sense her power so absolutely and immediately. It wasn't something she had counted on. Still, the topic hadn't been brought up since, so she believed the issue forgotten about.
However, her boss had been acting a little bit strangely since the recent events. Understandably so, she supposed. Weiss kept her sword with her at all times these days, seemed more tense that she had been when they first met.
So, perhaps she should have seen this coming.
Having had no newcomers arrive for the past twenty minutes, Izanami was daydreaming at her desk - half considering her investigation on the city barriers that evening, half just observing those around her. Once Weiss headed over though, she snapped out of her thoughts, offering a friendly wave.]
Hey. Something bothering you, boss?
[Her first suspicion was that Souji had said something. They came from the same world, after all, and he knew exactly who she was and her actions back there. Still, she kept up the casual human act for now, waiting to hear what Wess had to say first.]
no subject
[ If it was something that was just a personal reason and not something she had to worry about, she didn't want to make a big fuss in front of everyone. In fact, if it was something to worry about, it would absolutely be better to pull it out of the public eye for said public's safety in case things went south. ]
My office.
[ It sounded like a firm suggestion, but Weiss wasn't really leaving it open as a yes or no option. ]
no subject
So, for now, she simply got to her feet and left her jacket draped over her chair.]
No problem. Lead the way.
[Calm and unfazed as always. Perhaps unnaturally so. However good her act as a human was, there were still times where it wasn't perfect - where she didn't show natural anxiety or other, normal reactions that humans might.]
no subject
Once they were in her office, she closed the door behind her and looked Izanami dead in the eye. ]
I'm sure you've noticed that lately, there have been issues with people I know betraying me and others I know. I wasn't going to say anything when we first met, but now that I've had to deal with both Armin and myself being kidnapped and tortured, and on his part killed, I need to know exactly what it was that happened that first day. I won't force you to tell me, but if you don't, I will ask you to leave this job for the safety of everyone here. I need to be able to trust my employees.
no subject
For now, she returned the gaze with a calm one of her own - meeting Weiss' eyes with a look of bored curiosity. What would her boss do from here?]
Yeah, from what I've seen it's been pretty rough around here lately. Guessing that's why you're keeping that sword out?
[Unsurprisingly, the Goddess of Death was rather unfazed by the talk of others getting killed.]
...You know, I was pretty surprised you felt my power that easily.
[Her voice was calm and casual as usual, as if there was nothing unusual about this statement. The slight smile that played on her lips was more ambiguous.]
SO SORRY ABOUT THIS
[ The calmness and the smile of Izanami was somehow slightly unnerving and oddly comforting at the same time. Unnerving because Weiss couldn't read it- and not being able to read her expression made her less comfortable. But the idea that anyone who thought they were about to be cornered wouldn't be able to remain so calm also rang in her head, which made her suspect that whatever it was that Izanami was playing it wasn't something she should be worried about. She couldn't sense bloodlust, something she sensed from Mercury even before he broke out of his role and had simply attributed to enthusiasm for a fight- something she herself could relate to.
But that didn't mean she had a solid answer. Impatiently, Weiss tensed a little, her tone showing her clear edginess. ]
Are you going to share or not?
No worries :) And I feel I should apologise for Izanami being Izanami
Curious. I didn't know it was possible for anyone to use the potential within themselves like that. It's different, in my world. All people have a side of themselves they present to the world around them, a Persona, yet...they also have a part of them they conceal, a darker part they're ashamed to show, their Shadow. Certain individuals in my world who have confronted their Shadows can call upon their Personas to fight. Fewer still can help others awaken that power.
I didn't think there were others here who's worlds had similar principles of power.
[She folded her arms, chuckling a little. Instead of answering Weiss' question, she returned it with one of her own.]
...Tell me, does your world have Gods?
no subject
I think the basis sounds similar, but what we can actually do with them varies greatly from the sounds of it. I mean, Sun creates some kind of light-based replica of himself when he uses his Semblance but that's certainly not the case with everyone. Mine is my Glyphs, which you may have seen.
[ She's used them at the tryouts before and in semi-public fights a few times. ]
If it does, I've never met them. But we have the concept of them. [ Or at least, Yang has said 'oh my god,' but Ruby's also quoted Nixon despite it being a different world.. ] Why?
no subject
[Apparently, she had no idea at all as to how creepy that could sound. She still needed to work on that.]
Curiosity, mostly. After all, it's only normal for the Gods to want to know as much as they can about the people of their world and of others, don't you think?
no subject
Then again, different worlds. ]
I have no idea what's normal for a god, I just know that if they do exist in my world, they probably don't particularly care about humans and faunus or we wouldn't be confined to four kingdoms and a few scattered villages across a whole planet. If you are a god, what kind of god are you?
[ At least that reasoning answered why a god would want to work at a welcoming center already, so Weiss doesn't bother asking that. She's smart enough to make that conclusion. ]
no subject
I find it difficult to believe there are Gods who care so little for their people... I doubt I am the only one who has tried to understand what they desire, how they think.
[She shrugged, dropping her casual facade as her eyes turned to a blood red. Outside, it began to rain.]
...I am Izanami. In my world, I rule the afterlife as a Goddess of Creation and Death.
no subject
[ That was a little unnerving. Enough so that Weiss.. actually points it out, even as she's a little more cautious and seems ready to draw her blade if necessary. ]
If you're trying to stick on someone's good side, you really shouldn't make your eyes glow red like that and... make it rain? [ If that's Izanami. She's not sure, but the timing can't be a coincidence. ] when you re-introduce yourself.
no subject
[Apparently, this was a little lost on her. The signs that she really didn't understand humans as well as she'd like to admit seeping through.]
There's nothing to judge...all of us belong to the same Afterlife, the domain I rule. They all come to me, in the end. All of them rot as I did.
[She shrugged, folding her arms.]
There would not be death in my world if not for me. When the time comes, I end them.
[So Weiss was growing afraid of her...typical. She thought the girl had more nerve than that. The Goddess glanced to the window, watching the rain fall around them.]
...Would you have believed me if I showed no hint of my power?
no subject
You've always seemed intelligent, which means if you were lying, it would've been a simple explanation. This is too elaborate if you actually want to get away with lying and absolutely not something most people would want to hear.
[ Weiss's opinions had always been a little skewed from others, ]
I'm not sure what I think about you, but if you were going to lie to me, this would've been the worst attempt at lying I've ever seen. And you're obviously a good liar if you've held it up this long. The only reason I even knew was because you were being nosy about me when we first met. So I'm leaning toward trusting you, provided that I have your word that you have no intention of killing anyone here.
no subject
Of course. That is part of the reason I chose to keep myself hidden... for some reason, people get rather agitated if they believe a death Goddess is watching. Besides, it is far easier to observe humanity if I appear to be one of them.
[Weiss letting her stay, though? That wasn't actually something she suspected would happen. She had been half wondering whether she'd need to badger Loki for work.]
I have no reason to kill anyone here. Most of the people in this world are outside my influence, after all.
no subject
[ At least Weiss seemed to be content with having decided that she wasn't a threat- at least not to her- and that meant she could go back to having her normal, somewhat haughty attitude to show that she wasn't going to start acting strangely. ]
You can get back to work.
Action 1
She liked to think that somewhere, Tsukito was looking for his brother and the other gods though. The best way she knew to keep any channels open was to do her best here while still looking after the gods that had also arrived in Genessia, like Loki, Dionysus, and Takeru. That meant not neglecting guests, of course, so when Yui spotted Izanami, she put a smile on and hurried over. ]
May I help you with anything?
Action 1
Still, her work had continued here, quietly watching and observing the people both from her world and others. She wasn't sure whether she'd really gotten any closer to understanding them, but progress was progress.
As Yui headed over, she offered her a warm smile in return. It would be far less awkward if she at least acted like a human, for the time being, as she had in their first conversation. If what she had seen over the communicators was anything to go by, though...this girl seemed to know most of the other Gods she'd met so far. That certainly caught her interest.]
Hey, Kusanagi-san. Nice to meet you in person at last.
Actually, if you've got a minute... Would you be able to show me around?
no subject
Give me a quick minute to put the cleaning supplies away, and I'll be right with you. It was... Kurosawa-san, wasn't it? Would you like to take a seat somewhere while I put them away?
no subject
[Izanami gave Yui a pleasant smile, lowering her head a little in acknowledgement, before she went to take a seat on a nearby bench. She had time, there was no point in rushing her.]
no subject
Thank you for your patience!
no subject
No problem at all. Shall we get started?
Action 1. Sorry she isn't very social T_T
She was alone at the Shrine until now. Hearing someone arrive instinctively made her turn her head and look at who it was. It was just a random person. She couldn't even sense anything weird about this uniformed person, so Izumi was unaware that she was looking at a deity.
Izumi isn't really the type to start conversation, so she returned to writing on her day-planner. Izanami would be able to sense Izumi's powers and whatever dark entity resides within the Spirit Warrior. Izumi is strong, but not strong enough to conceal her spiritual presence from Izanami]
Action 1. No problem!
Hey.
[She gave Izumi a wave as she spoke, pulling off the act of a human as she usually did around strangers. As she got closer, though, something struck her as a little odd. This was definitely worth investigating...as such, she decided to start a conversation herself. That would give her a chance to work out exactly what she was sensing]
Pretty nice weather out, isn't it?
no subject
It is indeed.
[Izumi answered flatly. She turned her head to look at the stranger from the corner of her eyes. She knows there are friendly people, but she's so used to the idea of approaching people only when she needs something of them.]
Do you want anything?
no subject
How about you?
[Evidently, she did not seem to be picking up on Izumi's annoyance at being approached.]
Gonna be dropping her soon, so you don't have to respond if you don't want to
[She said that with a very small hint of annoyance]
The rest of the city is too loud for my tastes.
