[Klaus didn't particularly like the rain but Everglade was an excellent spot for finding some of the more... unusual plants and many were the kinds that thrived in rain and fog. He'd resigned himself to dealing with the unpleasant weather for the sake of getting some interesting stock for the greenhouse. It had been a very good idea that Klaus had decided to opt for more casual wear for his escapade. He'd donned a pair of dark denim slacks held up by suspenders, a rust-coloured collared shirt, a charcoal black, tweed waistcoat with a matching ivy cap, and a pair of red wellingtons. He was pushing along a plastic wheelbarrow containing his gardening tools and few samples he'd already dug up and carried an umbrella that hadn't done much to keep the rain off.
He was not alone in this venture. His Eevee, aptly named Liebling, seemed to be enjoying himself immensely, gamboling about his legs, splashing in puddles, or clambering up onto Klaus's shoulder because he liked to feel tall (and one didn't get much taller than the seven-foot giant). Klaus had more muck on him in the shape of the little creatures paw-prints than from kneeling in the damp foliage when collecting his samples.
Humming tunelessly under his breath, he turned off from the sidewalk into a more densely wooded area, quite oblivious to the possible dangers that lurked in Everglade.]

[No Klaus, you just spoil them and they know how to get treats out of you.]
Have you been keeping well at your new job?

[He worried about things like that. He was a very trusting man, but he knew some employers took terrible advantage of those working for them.]
no subject
How about you, where are you working? You don't have a permanent position at Terra's flower shop, do you?
no subject
[He gestured to the wheelbarrow of plants.] I tend the greenhouse. I've also taken on a position with Mr Haller which is closer to my original job back home, but that's more as a volunteer.
[He smiles just a little as he pulls the small, red flower up from the earth.] It's much more peaceful here, so that's a relief.

If you don't mind talking about it, that is. You can be as detailed or ambiguous as you like.

[He rubbed the back of his neck, thoughtful for a time.]
I've only been apart from them for a short while, but I quite miss my team back home.

[Klaus rubbed the back of his neck and smiled a little. As much as the city got to him sometimes, it was the first place he really felt like he was making a difference]
It used to be New York City, but about three years ago, the Beyond collided with our world. Part of Manhattan Island sunk into the hole that opened up, and human society was forced to accept a myriad of things it had dismissed as nonsense.
[He gave a small, wry little smile.]
It's a bit of a dichotomy - a city of miracles and nightmares, wonders and monsters.

It's a familiar story, actually. There were a great many things we discovered in our session that we had assumed to be myths and fairy tales.
Complete with massive destruction, it sounds like.
no subject
My apologies, but I'm not sure what you mean by s'session'?
[Still, he understood the mass destruction bit. Something they were both used to, it seemed, unfortunate as it was.]
no subject
[ For good reason. She was ready to talk more about it now. ]
You see, the reason my planet was destroyed was because we played a game... or perhaps we played a game because our planet was doomed to be destroyed. Such is the nature of Paradox Space. Both are true at the same time.
Me and eleven of my friends - by a loose definition of friends, in some cases - played a game called SGrub which transported us into a video game session. From this video game we were supposed to create a new world. We didn't- couldn't actually, although eventually we did enable another group to do so.

A virtual space to rebuild a real world?
[he hoped he understood that correctly.]
no subject
[ Games in Beforus - even online ones, weren't played in an alternate reality. They were all played in real space. ]

[He got out his phone. Despite the fact he couldn't get calls on it, he still had apps, information and music stored on it that he wanted to hold onto.]
[Flipping through a few tabs, he pulled up his Prosfair app. The virtual gameboard appeared and Klaus showed her the screen.]
Like this. Something played on a machine.
no subject
But it's tiny. How can you play on something like that?
no subject
[He was so happy he got the Prosfair app. Even if he didn't have anyone to play against, it was still nice getting to test strategies against the computer.]

She finished selecting options and started the game, and as she feared, it was a two dimensional render. Horrible. Still, it answered the question she'd asked earlier. She handed the device back. ]
Then no, it wasn't a virtual space. We were physically transported to the Medium, which is a space generated inside Paradox Space for every Session, which is I guess a bit hard to define. Every universe in Paradox Space is destroyed and created by a game session, facilitated by a pre-selected group of players.

[It was all a bit over Klaus's head. He'd only very recent;y upgraded from his beloved Mac Classic Colour, probably at the insistence of his more tech savvy butler. But still, he was looking at Porrim in a state of awe.]
That's incredible! And in this space, it was feasible to construct a new world entirely?
no subject
Our session lacked a forge, however, making a new universe impossible. We needed to 'scratch' our session - sort of like a reboot - so that our dancesters might accomplish what we could not.
no subject
[He was getting a very odd mental image here.]
Would that be infinitely large or infinitely small?

[ She smiled and shrugged, expecting Klaus' confusion. ]
Paradox space.
But when I met her, I also met her matesprite and... brother? I think? That was the first time I met humans, yes.
no subject
I see. And they were the ones to be entrusted with your legacy?
