[Klaus didn't particularly like the rain but Everglade was an excellent spot for finding some of the more... unusual plants and many were the kinds that thrived in rain and fog. He'd resigned himself to dealing with the unpleasant weather for the sake of getting some interesting stock for the greenhouse. It had been a very good idea that Klaus had decided to opt for more casual wear for his escapade. He'd donned a pair of dark denim slacks held up by suspenders, a rust-coloured collared shirt, a charcoal black, tweed waistcoat with a matching ivy cap, and a pair of red wellingtons. He was pushing along a plastic wheelbarrow containing his gardening tools and few samples he'd already dug up and carried an umbrella that hadn't done much to keep the rain off.
He was not alone in this venture. His Eevee, aptly named Liebling, seemed to be enjoying himself immensely, gamboling about his legs, splashing in puddles, or clambering up onto Klaus's shoulder because he liked to feel tall (and one didn't get much taller than the seven-foot giant). Klaus had more muck on him in the shape of the little creatures paw-prints than from kneeling in the damp foliage when collecting his samples.
Humming tunelessly under his breath, he turned off from the sidewalk into a more densely wooded area, quite oblivious to the possible dangers that lurked in Everglade.]

They're very likable, yes. Would you be alright with telling me how you feel when you grow them?
no subject
It's depending on when you mean. When I planted the seeds I felt a tingle from my finger tips to my spine. [Her head tilts to the side.] As the little buds of green rose from the dirt I felt it again but it came from my chest.
[She pauses looking over at him, her expression confused.]
When the brightly colored petals started to show. I felt very warm.... right here.
[Terra places her palm over her heart.]
no subject
That sounds like happiness to me. Do you feel that way with Chespin and Spheal?
no subject
[Terra smiles, a small hint of red tinting her cheeks though as always the joy never fully reached her eyes.]
no subject
[Klaus didn't miss the way the smile didn't quite reach her eyes.]
Does something else trouble you, Miss Branford?
no subject
[She goes silent for a moment before looking over at Klaus. She doesn't know much about him but she doesn't see the harm in asking.]
Have you ever been in love?
no subject
[Well that was a doozy of a question.]
Er... well.
[Still, it was something reasonable to ask. Terra looked to be around the age where people started having their first serious romances, and he doubted her military training included an briefing on the complexities of love, especially considering she couldn't even tell when she was happy.]
Yes. ...For my part. It was a while ago, however.
no subject
[She pauses in her step, looking up at him as if holds the answer to every question her heart seeks. She wants to know what it's like, she wants to feel that feeling as well or at least have proof that she can.]
Please...

Exquisite. Agonizing. It was a number of things, all sublime and overwhelming at once. It's... very difficult to explain, as it's different for everyone and there are many different kinds of 'love'.
[He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a bit awkward about the whole thing. He wasn't the worst person Terra could have asked about this, but there were others with better and broader experiences.]
That... probably sounds very vague. My apologies. Do you have any idea what you specificaly might want to know?
no subject
It's fine. [She knows it's an odd question.]
I want to know... if I can feel love too...
no subject
Miss Branford, do you have people you consider friends? People that you trust, respect and enjoy being around?
no subject
You?
[Terra doesn't mean to phrase it like a question but she does trust him and enjoy being around him, she respects what he knows and finds his company pleasant.]
Vyers too.
[Awkward pause.]
He's my friend.
no subject
You're very kind Miss Branford. I consider you a good friend as well.
[He gives a small nod.]
The Greeks gave names to four different kinds of love. 'Friendship' is called 'Phileo'. It's considered a tender and platonic love. So you now know you can experience at least one kind, yes?
no subject
I suppose so.
[Terra looks up at Klaus, her bright blue eyes filled with curiosity and a need to understand.]
What are the other kinds of love?
no subject
There's Eros, which is more physical and generally felt between lovers at the earlier stages of a romance. For some it's something that fades quickly, and for others it remains an integral part of their relationship. Some don't experience it much or at all.
[He shrugs, moving on.]
Agape is an unconditional love. It's when you decide to love someone simply because they are a person and they exist. This is ... rather difficult to achieve for obvious reasons.
Storge is a bit of a combination of any of the other three. On it's own it's the love one feels for their family. Sometimes it is a friendship where those involved become like family, or a friendship that becomes a lasting romance. It is, by it's nature, love that is committed and lasting.
...Does this help?
no subject
[She's still a little bit confused but she's thankful that he's willing to explain it to her.]
How do I know when I feel it too?
no subject
[He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling frustrated at how inadequate he was at explaining this.]
There are signs to pay attention to. An increase in heart rate, a desire to seek that person out for company. You would probably feel more inclined to comfort them when they're sad or share your own troubles. Close friends will sometimes hold hands and hug. People who are romantically involved sometimes hug and kiss.
[He exhales.]
My apologies. It's a lot to take in and I'm... not very good at explaining it.
no subject
Someone loves me if they kiss me then?
[She pauses.]
Would anyone want to kiss me?
[Terra is trying really hard to understand and she doesn't mean to make it difficult. She's worried thinking herself inhuman compared to those in her world.]
no subject
[Klaus faltered.]
If they kiss you without your permission, or continue trying to kiss you even after you've indicated that's not what you want... no. That's not love.
[He rubbed the back of his neck again.]
Love is... it's built on mutual respect, and trust. The consent of the individual's involved is also a priority.
[He looked to Terra, taken aback by her second question. He mulled it over.]
Almost certainly. You're a kind and compassionate person. I'm sure there's many who would see that and hope to pursue a relationship with you.

As they move towards the shop about a thousand thoughts flutter through her mind.]
Thank you. I don't think I understand completely but maybe I'll be able to feel it too.
[She's young but there is so much about her past that has left her broken.]
no subject
There's no hurry, I hope. Such things generally take time, whatever the fairy tales say.
no subject
[Terra blinks, looking up at him curiously. She hasn't ever heard a Fairy Tale before.
As they spoke she didn't realize how close they were coming to the shop. Terra had completely stop paying attention to anything other than the constant sound of their steps and the words of wisdom spilling from Klaus's lips.]
no subject
[He frowned, trying to find a better way to elaborate as the shop came into view.]
There's a bit of a dissonance. Love and marriage had very different connotations in the times they were written and don't tend to make sense with regard to more contemporary values.
no subject
I wasn't raised with those sorts of things. I sounds like a dream.
[She isn't sure what else to think about it. Terra turns and looks up at Klaus.] Will you help me find fairy tails like that?
no subject
[He stopped, looking a bit hesitant.]
Is there a library in the city? I never thought to ask.
