16th Campaign [Video] Open: Max 7 (Backdated Dec 9th)
Good evening, everyone. I am Satsuki Kiryuin, Guardian of Nova City, and due to the recent.. Unveiling of information, I believe that I owe you an explaination, To those of you that stood up for me, I am thankful for your kind words, but I believe that in situations like these it is most effective to handle things on my own. So, I will attempt to be as concise as possible.
First I would like to make clear that the evidence of Dr Albert Wily's tampering of the election is new to me. Some of you are aware that I challenged Wukong to reveal that information; and that was because I was confident he made-up the existance of this proof. After all, in the previous elections he had made the same accusations but had never brought that evidence to light. But I also warned him that if somehow it does exist, he should be prepared for the consequences, which he took for a threat but I will clarify on that shortly.
He is not wrong in that I have spoken to him in a manner that would damage ones pride. Where I come from, the ability to crush your opponents morale before the blade is drawn is an uncommon and priceless skill and I mention this because I noticed Wukong rather conveniently left out that he is a delinquent. A thief.
In the video log he shared with you all I would like to share his response when I asked asked what he had accomplished here in Genessia: 'I've pissed off a group of vendors, got a negative article in the paper about me, improved on my combat prowess.' After a bit of searching I had concluded this is the snippet he referred to:
[She pauses as she silently reads it over, then shakes her head as she attaches another link.]
Attachment: Paper Clipping
He said 'I'm pretty happy with what I have done'. He expects me to respect.. That. I will not. That is one thing I will never change about myself.
At the party he spoke of I was confronted by him and I used my words to cut him down. My intent was to humble him- to the point he would cast doubt upon his choices and rethink his position. I recall my patience was thin and perhaps I did go too far since he took that as an attack against the faunus. And that I apologize. I honestly have no issue with the faunus.
The election results.
It turns out Wily's tampering is real, and here is a question to consider: What would you do if you suspected someone cheated the system and you had evidence? Most of you would obtain it and bring it forward as soon as possible, correct? That is not what happened here.
So why is it now that Wukong has revealed that evidence? If he had acted sooner, surely he could have had Dr Wily, the person he despises so much, that hurt his friends, removed from office and be punished for his crimes. He could have prevented a lot of damage.
But he did not. So then what might be the true motive?
Well if one wished to aid Lady Schnee, and watch me crash and burn in a most spectacular manner the process by opening 'pandora's box', it could be argued the present would absolutely be the best time to do so. Unfortunatly several things were overlooked in his plan: The obviousness of his political intent, the hiding of his 'occupation', and more importantly the questionable legality of his actions.
I stand by that my intentions back then were in hopes of a positive result; his seeked pure destruction. On the other hand, perhaps none of this would have happened were I not so arrogant in the first place and I do apologize. I have since learned that I need to change my methods for manner more suitable for Genessia, and I ask for your patience.
[She pauses a moment as if letting that sink in.]
With that aside, I would like to address my other previous actions. I possessed a bias against Wukong and toward Dr Wily, but to understand my viewpoint, and to touch upon each point against me in an understandable manner, I must provide some history:
I believe in redemption- Dr Wily is not the first person to have made terribly poor decisions nor will he be the last. One might say Genessia is a 'second chance' for people like him.
When I met him it was obvious he carried personal demons. He was laughably arrogant, he made no secret of his disdain toward teenagers was beyond apparent. When I withdrew the idea of mandatory attendance, he was furious and threatened to take action on his own, but I persuaded him to see the others point of view. Once he backed down, I saw a ray of hope.I also saw a mind, dense with experience and brilliance. A person who had a firm grasp of a stable society's fundamentals, and someone that I could connect with if given the chance. And most importantly, if pointed in the right direction he could one day become a leader everyone could look up to.
[Satsuki closes her eyes a moment and lowers her head.]
Now I am troubled.. I wonder if he would have ever confessed to me that the election was rigged.
A similar tale goes for Princess Azula, the one who burned the hotel. She possessed a twitchy temper and believed that, as heiress to a powerful kingdom, that everything belonged to her. What I saw was another brilliant mind. She possessed intense passion, royal experience and strategic genius that, with a bit of tempering, would result in an outstanding leader. It was painful for me to see her make an entrance so similar to my own.
Then comes the Academy. In May of last year I declared the construction of Wily Academy, later renamed Honnouiji Second, with the intent to make attendance mandatory and the backlash was far greater than I had expected at that time. Understand that this was fueled by the culture I hail from, where my world possesses similar policies. I had believed that no price was too small to bring everyone together, learn from one another, build a proficient committee that understands the importance of getting serious and working to find the solution to escape this prison. I have since understood such tactics are unfit for Genessia.
Wukong believes that I will not change and that is understandable, considering our history. Even ignoring that I still lack a 'cheerful' expression and a friendly air.
I think that I have been improving- In the past I thought I would be remembered as 'The hero we did not know we needed' but the reality is it would have been 'That arrogant fool who tried to conquer Genessia'. Since the school incident I have personally spoken with people who challenged my declaration. I still keep company with my associates from home, but also with the likes of Koishi Komeiji and Bridget Frostheart, one who possesses colorful disposition, the other possessing reflective wisdom that assist in making social decisions more acceptable of this culture. There are many others, but I am afraid I have spoken enough as is. Just know I appreciate you.
I hope that those who still doubt my intent can look at history and see that I want to be a positive example. I want to prove that I am someone worth believing in, while doing something that I was born for. I also hope that those who were persuaded to vote instead for Lady Schnee because of this incident might reconsider.
Thank you for your time.
(OOC: tl;dr Satsuki pointed out that Sun did not mention that he is a thief and ultimately that was what Satsuki took issue with. She suggested that her harsh words were meant to inspire him to clean up his act then apologized that he took it as an attack against faunus. She then used his timing to paint him as a politically-charged, vindictive criminal.
Satsuki then explained that her connecting with the likes of Wily and Azula was with the intent of steering their talents and influence toward something greater.
She then explains that the Wily Academy fiasco was occurred because that was the way it worked from her home. She aknowledged that it was a poor decision and has since made an effort to fit in by working with others with differing viewpoints as well as her trusted associates from home.)

[ Video I can Teal Deer at you too ]
With all due respect Satsuki, [ Not Kiryuin. Satsuki. ] I have to disagree on some points you brought up. Granted I don't know the entirety of Sun's history with you, nor do I know how your world stands. But your quote that you share- that Sun said he was happy with what he's done. Putting aside any theft he may have done in the past, that statement does not imply, "Respect me, I stole things." It's a simple statement acknowledging what he did, and that he had no shame in it. At least that's how I would take it. And honestly, if he is a thief, so what? There are people who are guilty of FAR worse crimes STILL walking the streets. You're jumping to judge him without knowing him, and I don't believe Sun is a bad person.
It's people who try to demonize, attack and flat out insult and degrade others for looking or being different that commit a greater crime. They're thieves - or poor ones at that - in a way as well. As for Wiley, I completely disagree with your opinion about -him- as well, to an extent. I understand you might have been a little upset by Sun's post, but he did bring up the evidence of Wiley's tampering of the election, and the reason he didn't bring it forward. It was a decision made by the man Ozpin - it wasn't a good decision to make, I think, but there you have it.
You said that Genessia's a 'second chance' for people like Wiley, but don't you think he lost the opportunity for that when he was responsible for tampered with the election results? It isn't the only thing he's done that was potentially damaging either - before that he was also responsible for the attempted bombing of our guild - which is unforgivable. Do I have evidence? Yes - I even have testimonials. We dealt with that on our end and foiled his plans in the end. Of course I don't expect you to have known about that any more than you knew about the election tampering. His motives were quite questionable, I think. There's probably a LOT he kept from you.
Anyway, I consider you something of a friend (sort of), so the accusations that Sun named in his earlier post aren't why I'm not voting for you for Nova City Guardian. I don't even usually participate in politics - but I'm curious to see how Weiss would do as Guardian, if she wins. It's entirely possible that she won't. Anyway my main point is- don't just assume that because he made his opinion heard, that it's immediately political and he's deliberately trying to sabotage your campaign. The timing makes it sound that way, sure, and it's obvious he's a little biased because of your interactions, but even if you weren't running for Nova City Guardian, I believe he'd have the same opinion, and the same intent, you know?
[ Video; Private]
[ Video; Private]
You don't have to thank me for that, Sun - but you're welcome.
[ Gets a hunting rifle ]
There is a slight misunderstanding. His shameless acknowledgement was the problem when we first met. He felt disrespected in another event. The most recent event is what drove me to my current conclusions. If you do not believe he is a bad person, then so be it.
The issue of evidence is not so simple. Your guild is Fairy Tail, correct? What if I demanded that you tell me a secret your guildmaster asked you not to reveal? What if I begged and pleaded? Would you tell me?
And I agree, that the chance was lost.. To an extent. I was not in Genessia when those elections happened. If I had, this would probably be a different tale entirely. [Her stone expression faulters a bit.] It is complicated now. All I can say is that I appreciate that despite remembering that you would hold no ill will toward me. That was why I was hesitant when we met again.
[Following that, though, her frown deepens. It isn't that the final part is bad advice; more that it just wasn't that simple for her.]
Your thoughts certainly have merit.
[ This isn't Deer Season! It's WABBIT Season! ]
Well, I expected as much. I did mention I wasn't aware of your history with him in full, beyond what you both have said. And you're both so close to the issue that I can't help but feel it's tainted by bias anyway. I don't know if you judged him just based on him acknowledging that he was a thief and having no shame in it. I don't know if you ever tried to get to know him or his reasons outside of that. My impression of the way this all went down, is that you didn't make any attempt like that. I could be wrong.
[ Would Satsuki fess up if she was right though? HRM? She does have to laugh at the question though. ]
Well, in all honesty, if you "demanded" that I tell you a secret my guildmaster swore me to secrecy about, I would have laughed at you. And making demands wouldn't have earned you any points; you might be Nova City Guardian, but you have no authority over Fairy Tail, or me, so you wouldn't get your answers that way either. But don't get me wrong, that goes for any Guardian - Genessia, Fayren, Everglade - all of them. Especially Fayren's, considering Fairy Tail is -in- Fayren. On the other hand, if you begged and pleaded, I would have asked -WHY- you needed to know the secret. What would you do with the information? And I would have told you to go straight to the guildmaster if you needed to know so desparately. Just because they swore -me- to secrecy, hypothetically, that doesn't mean that they wouldln't find your reasons for wanting to know invalid, and might tell you too. It depends on the situation, and the secret. You can hardly apply the scenario of one instance to everything, that's just as bad as assuming things about people based on their appearance.
If he were to show up in Genessia again, I don't think he'd get a third chance, from the people who remembered him being here before. At the very least, he wouldn't be trusted. But I know you weren't aware of his wrongdoings. You're not perfect, Satsuki. Not by a long shot. [ Sorry you had to find out this way :D ] In fact, no one is; the first person who claims to be is usually the one with the biggest flaws. BUT you've admitted that you're trying, and while I don't agree with the way you do some things, I can acknowledge and appreciate that effort.
[ But she's still not voting for you, sorry. ]
Anyway, instead of assuming someone's opinion against you is a smear campaign or something, there are probably more important things to focus on. Whoever wins the Guardianship - you or Weiss - well, good luck.

Although, the game of steering people of high-passion like that is a dangerous one, it can be rather profitable, if approached with care. Personally, I find it is a little easier when you take a less direct approach.
I do not hold much hope in 'subtlety' in Genessia. Unless you mean something else by 'less direct approach'?
Frankly, the more 'unsubtle' people there are, the easier it is for the subtle ones to go unnoticed.
The way I see it, it is far easier to steer people if they think they are making the decisions themselves. If you are there pushing them, your goals become obvious.

Did you miss that or did you just gloss over? If you had the article or a quote from my post, I assume you wouldn't have missed that either. Regardless, I never hid the fact that I stole fruit. That's the only truth in that article, unless you thought I would really steal remotes, socks and throw excrement. I'm not ashamed of my actions back then even now.
You asked why did I reveal this evidence now, but you realize you also acknowledged that you challenged me to reveal it, right? You posed a question that you already answered. You realize that, don't you? You can't say "I challenged him to show his evidence. But why is he showing his evidence?"
Even if you are asking why I'm bring it up now now of all times, it's still the same answer. You said it yourself that I brought it up before and then I brought it up now, and you challenged me to come out with it. I never once even hinted at the idea that I would say anything. But if you want to call me taking you up on your challenge as a favor to Weiss, then that is on you.
As for why it wasn't brought forth when he won..did you really not read in my post where I revealed Ozpin told us not to act on it?
On the note of your actions and what you did and didn't know, I think its just you covering your own butt. But I'll be the first to admit I'm biased against you because of your treatment.
Video
[A glance is given to the attachment, then pinches the bridge of her nose.]
What you stole is not the point. And it appears we will have to agree to disagree on what it was I did or did not know.
As for 'Did I answer that question'? I am not so sure about that. After all, is 'Ozpin told us not to act on it' really a relevant answer? Does all it take to get you to disobey a request is someone else to command you to?
While I would not be completely surprised, I at least hold you to higher regard than that. Therefore my proposed scenario is far more likely.
Video
You have this all wrong. Ozpin did not told us not to act, but while I respect Ozpin greatly, I was never under any actual obligation to follow any sort of command or request that he gave. Ozpin is Headmaster of Beacon Academy. I’m a student of Haven. Even then, Ozpin said not to act against Dr. Wily. Dr. Wily. See what I’m getting at, right? I never acted against him, it’s impossible to do so.

Despite the weather, the cold doesn't seem to bother him too much. Perhaps he's used to it. }
So, that was your intent behind asking me to teach magic to students. { He had flatly refused, back then. He didn't say why at the time, but for personal reasons, his magic-teaching days have long since been over. }
If I might offer some advice, having experience in this field... if you wish to unite others to one cause, strong leadership is not enough. Any brute, tyrant, or cult of personality can gather a group of fools and tell them to fight for selfish purposes. If you wish to unite others... you need a worthy cause to hold up as a banner.
{ After all, it wasn't just martial force that turned a tiny city state, and something of a social experiment at that, into a continent-spanning military superpower. }

[Satsuki's brows raise. Of course she remembers Zeref, and it's a surprise to hear from him again though obviously she had given up on trying to convince him, mostly because she started working on becoming more influential.]
That was not lost on me. In retrospect I suppose all the anger may have made my goal less clear but the idea was to bring people together to discover a way home. Surely that is great enough a banner?
[ video ]
{ Zeref sighed briefly. He always liked the smell of the sea. He had it an awful lot during those years in Tenroujima, and he'd often go to the beach and just... sit there, for a while, when the weather was nice. }
Perhaps. But there are just as many people here who find this world preferable to their own, and would rather stay.

But because the boy stole from fruit vendors you thought it was your duty to cut him down and humble him with your words as well as crush his pride and demoralize him? The way you say delinquent and thief makes it sound like his crimes are the worst of the worst compared to all that has been listed.
But since you offer that sort of service Did Azula, someone who committed a vicious crime receive the same treatment or did you approach her differently? Because personally, I think violent criminals deserve a firmer hand than petty ones.
[ video ]
[Bitter? Just a touch. But one person she does not want to make angry is David so she's going to opt to be more careful, even as she keeps a stern expression.]
What I saw was someone similar to myself making an error similar to my own. It was after I had confronted her, combined with what information I learned beforehand that I came to the conclusions that I did.
The difference between the two is that Lady Azula made an effort to make up for her wrongdoings, whereas Wukong embraces his. Azula aspires to be someone great. Wukong.. Well. He seems rather happy where he is.
If Lady Azula were perfectly happy creating that brand of chaos, I would not have spared her a mere tongue-lashing. As you say; the crimes differ.
[ video ]
You read a post by the boy, and because he doesn't feel bad over stealing fruit, you think it is best to degrade him and hurt his feelings? All in an effort to get him to change? The gentle approach with one but the ironfist with another.
You know, I've seen the boy's name mentioned three times in the paper this year alone. One for bringing to justice the Candy Man in Attleton, which he received a personal invite from the city itself to attend a festival. The second was a review on the retrieval services that he provides to the people of Fayren. And the third was just last month where he brought to justice the man that caused chaos and mayhem during Halloween, for which the Royal Family of Fayren bestowed Knighthood upon for his actions. Even when looking at the bounty records, it isn't uncommon to see his name. All of this isn’t even factoring in his apparent investigative skills.
Does that match up to the view of someone with no aspirations beyond petty thievery? Or do you believe these to be isolated acts of valor?

[ It's then that Sertoria's expression takes on a more serious stance, her eyes reflecting the tone she wishes to set. ]
If I may, I would like to voice what I think of these matters. First, I do not think it is right for you to still throw rocks at Sun for merely stealing fruit. If he had committed a despicable act, such as murdering someone for example, then I would be more inclined to agree that yes, people should be warned about his actions. Since it was just a case of petty theft, I do not think all of this animosity should be able to continue.
[ A pause, and then: ]
Allow me to pose you a question now that we are talking about this, Miss Kiryuin. If there was someone who was continually tarnishing your good name around here and bringing up every mistake and infraction that you have made, despite the fact that you have proclaimed that you have made so many changes from who you used to be, how do you think you would feel? Not so well, I would imagine.
If you want people to support you, it is going to take a lot more than just words. Your actions weigh a lot more than your words do. If you wish to be an example to others, then use your actions to prove that you are a good candidate to be a Guardian for Nova City. I think the biggest step you can take in the right way is to stop demonizing Sun for something that is essentially insignificant in the present time.
That said, I would not mind offering my support and wisdom to you, if you would like, Miss Kiryuin. I just merely wish to help others achieve their fullest potential however possible.
[ video ]
[A pause.]
The scenario you presented is extremely similar to what has transpired, Miss. I have been a Guardian for fourteen months, and yet the moment Wukong brought my past to the people's attention, many have become confused.
It is extremely difficult not to be highly frustrated by this and, seeing as this is my job on the line, I believe it to be a great disservice to call this 'insignificant'.
As for your offer, I appreciate it... But I confess may not be in the best state of mind to accept at this time.
Action, Satsuki's place
Oopsie, looks like things aren't going too well for you in this election, huh?
Is that why I need to get a job, cuz you'll be unemployed really soon~? :3
Action,
.. Your getting a job has nothing to do with this. My position is fine.
What are you doing here?
