Afraid of the dark [Action]

Somewhere in Genessia, a terrified boy is sniveling into his videophone. It's hard to tell anything other than his voice; the surroundings are pitch black. After a few sniffles, he finally gets it out of his system.

"H-hey, someone help me! It's really dark in here and I got lost. Stuff keeps bumping into me and I can't find the way out and it's really dark and I just wanna go home and-and...*sniffles*".

Ted bawls for a bit.

"Maybe...*sniff* maybe call a priest, but I don't know their number. 911 is just for cops, not priests so I dunno what to do. Please help..."

[Kahlan's surprised to hear the soft cries over her strange phone device. She turns it on and then positions it so the young boy might see her expression.]

Hey, it's going to be okay. I know it's dark but can you try and move to see if you can spot anything.

I'm going to find you but you have to calm down.

[She's a confessor which is close to a priestess in her world.]

More sniffles. "Okay." Ted hadn't thought to use the videophone as a source of illumination, being a dumb kid and all, so this had the effect of epiphany.

"There's...a lot of stuff here. I see a dresser and a lot of books I can't read and some wrapping paper that got used up some and some spray cleaner and this coat I got from Santa--but it's too big and I can't wear it very good--and-" Ted took a deep breath "And these red-and-white ball things where I keep my ghosts." He shuddered, recoiling at the idea of being stuck in a dark room with ghosts, even if they belonged to him. "And the floor's kinda rough and I can't see the ceiling and there's this armchair and..."

Ted continued to ramble on, describing each and every thing in his bag for as long as she'd let him.

[Kahlan lets him continue to speak and as he does she begins to move. It sounds like he’s in someone’s home and due to the odd choice of wording she thinks it’s his home. It doesn’t make sense but her first priority is to find the child.

After a while she replies.]

Is there a door? Or a closed window where you might be able to look outside.

[She needs some clue as to where he is.]

What’s your name?

[Kahlan asks hastily wondering if he is one of the few names she knows.]

"Um...there probably is one around here somewhere, but it's really far away. I think. And there aren't any windows; is it nighttime right now? Cause then even if there were I couldn't see where they were. Unless there's a full moon and it was looking right at me, then I could see. But right now this phone is the only thing that helps me see so it's probably not any of those things.

I'm Theodore. What's yours?" He asked more out of reflex than anything. Yes, this place definitely belonged to him, though he'd rankle at the word choice of "home".

[Kahlan just shakes her head trying to think of something. It's cloudy out and the snow that had been all over the streets has mostly melted away. Then there is the problem where she doesn't know anyone named Theodore.]

My name is Kahlan Amnell. I'm a confessor.

[Her tone is soft and reassuring.]

I believe your device can cast more of a light. It's going to be far but I know you can do it. Find a wall and then move along until you find the door.

[She tries to reassure him and she sounds very much like a mother as she gently instructs him.]

"Oh!" Maria gasps out, as soon as she realises that the poor sniffling boy's voice is echoing-- not because of some problem with her "hello-phone" mixing with her magic, but-- because, rather, she is right beside him. "Oh dear... Dear me... Teddy? Are you-- are you in this bag, here?" She pulls the bag open, and is nearly brained when a large armchair falls out from the damned Infinity Sack! "OW!" Tears well up into her own eyes, of course, as she gingerly touches the bump on her head.

Ted heard a loud voice echo, making him a little more afraid. So he shouted right back.

"No girls allowed, stupid! You shouldn't be here. Go away!"

"But-- I want my mummy!" Maria cried out, desperately trying not to make a scene by actually crying; she knew her mummy wouldn't care for someone actually hearing her ickle baby cry like-- well... An ickle Baby! She grimaced as she rubbed at the knot on her head, and then shouted back angrily: "You know something? You're the stupid one, getting lost in a bag full of furniture! AND you lost an armchair out here, too! That hit me on my headache! I'm telling Mummy-- once I find her, that is!"

Marie did a rare trick of leading him towards "mad" from "sad", evidenced by going into full blown argument. Childish argument. "No, your mom is the stupid one for not teaching you not to touch stuff that's not yours! Put that armchair back, or I'll shoot you for stealing my chair!" Cause that's how criminal justice works.

Wait a minute. "Hey, you're at the entrance to this place, right? Tell me where it is so I can get out!" Even now he was slowly walking towards the source of the voice, hoping that as it got louder, he'd get nearer to freedom.

It might not be a bad idea to ask a cop for help. I know their main business is the gory stuff but they help lost kids, too.
