[Azalea sighs as she reads the paper about the recent overnight monster attack. Then she becomes enraged when she reads the note from the Hands of Decay. To her, it almost seems like a hidden confession that they were the ones who perpetrated it. The timing was just too perfect.]

So these "Hands of Decay" are trying to convince everyone that the monster attack is the work of a mage. Do they have any proof? How do we know this attack wasn't committed by the Hands of Decay themselves? I'm more likely to believe this whole charade was orchestrated by them than any other story.

And even if the attack was committed by a lone mage? You can't condemn a whole group just for one person's actions! Isn't it also strange that they're only targeting mages within Fayren? I don't understand what they're trying to accomplish here.

If these attacks are going to continue at night, then perhaps I should begin patrolling at night. I can stay out of sight by staying off the ground.

[Hey, someone pissed off. That's practically his bat signal.]

Pretty sure monster summoning is well within a mage's purview there, twerp.

I like how you're convinced you're right no matter what though. "It probably wasn't a mage. But if it was, doesn't matter!" That's some bulletproof stupid. What's the ceiling on how many mages it'll take ****'ing with things before you wise up?

And yeah, most crimes take place at night. Your detective career is off to a great start, Sherlock.

Settle down spaz. I'll see if I can reach 'the point' for you, since it went waaay over your head.

These guys are propagandists, all right? Well, everyone is, but stay with me on this. They're trying to convince people that mages are dangerous (they are), and this makes their case look good.

What makes their case look better, on the other hand, are your retarded identity politics. At least two people are dead, and you're whinging about mage solidarity. Is one incident all it takes before you go flying into "us vs. them" conniptions?

Actually...hold on, am I being played? Are you a plant put in place to make mages look like trigger-happy, heartless psychopaths? I did think it was a little weird for the first public response to be this obtuse.

Well nice try, HoD stooge, but I'm not buying it. Still, props. Finding someone this unbalanced to color the opposition is pretty slick. But you overplayed your hand. No mage could look this this bad unless they were paid.

Koishi sat herself down next to the dragon whisper quiet, reaching down and stroking the little creature once before lifting her and placing her in the youkai's lap followed by a gentle rubbing behind the frills and ears.

"Please don't work yourself up over this, okay? We can go out and look some more for these people. They aren't very nice, are they?" Koishi tilted her head a little. "Humans hating humans for magic is something that sometimes happens. But..." She pursed her lips. "I never understood why they hate other humans using magic but not monsters. It doesn't make sense to me."

More rubbing. Behind her ears and frills and around her neck and around her shoulders and wings. Koishi's calming aura was also helping but the little youkai wasn't forcing it on the dragon.

"I know. It's disgusting what these people are doing but biting back is just what they want us to do right now. We're already hunting them down. We've been following leads. We will catch them. I promise. Until them we have to be careful and remain calm... Once we catch them though we'll show no mercy."

Koishi nodded, her eyes brightening quite a bit as her sclera darkened. "Indeed." Her tone hadn't changed, petting the dragon gently. "The hunt is much easier when the prey is unsuspecting. Even if chasing a panicked creature is more fun. Just a grab and a hard shake and it's over just like that." It was easy to forget Koishi was a predatory youkai.

"Well a hard shake and a flick of the wrist is all it takes to snap the neck and spine in several places... I mean not so if you do it wrong. But I can just bite through their spine if worst comes to worst. That's one of the things my teeth are for, after all. It works well enough for anything too big for me to pick up easily."

She huffed a little bit. "I don't really have any desire to torture a human. Even when they deserve it. It brings out some really negative things in me."

"Mm... A nice thought. But humans don't really learn that way. If we knocked him out he would just wake up more angry with nothing changed." A pause. "Also causing trauma enough to a human to knock them out is likely to cause some rather dangerous damage anyway."

Well, as I said, straight up kill those responsible. Preferably with obviously non magical means. We don't wan them pointing at it and using it to support their point... If any survive anyway. Besides, anyone here without an amulet is not actually a real living thing."

Not that being a real person or not would stop Koishi from killing someone if need be.

"I'm not entirely sure... I mean youkai eat people and I've picked scraps through Fayren before. The people without amulets are like..." She frowned. "Like... Comparing the taste of a domestic pig to a wild boar. There's something distinctly cultured about it. And then they also don't have the same range of emotions."

"That's okay. You eat bugs. I don't expect you to know exactly what I mean." More petting but stroking this time instead of scratching. "Please don't worry so much. We'll make sure all this works out in the end."

I don't know that it's strange they're only targeting wizards in Fayren. [Though he's in complete agreement with her assessment of the situation.] The Hands of Decay must be a native organization. They wouldn't be able to cross the arches, right?

[He nods.]

That doesn't bring us any closer to them, though.

[He shakes his head.]

We can't just aimlessly look around and hope to get lucky. These people are resourceful, organized, and capable of getting an obvious advantage over wizards, which isn't easy to do. Just watching isn't going to be enough.

[He looks thoughtful for a moment.]

We're going to have to play their game.

They're trying to intimidate us into submission.

[He pauses.]

We should make them think they have.

It's...far-fetched, I know, and I don't know everything it's going to take to make it happen, not yet.

I think the reason they only target Fayren is... obvious if they are natives. But the rest is probably so they have a reason for there actions. if they were the cause behind it and all. We have no way of proving either way.

I'm going to consider helping out here a bit more since I don't use magic. I hope that will help me in some way.

I think the odds that they are are quite high at least. If they really hated mages and could go beyond they would try all the cities given how they seem to act.

[She knew they wouldn't stop, that was why she wanted to try and beat them from within. If it's possible.]

I have that feeling as well... But I'm hoping that if they notice me and know about my dislike for dark magic that they might let me in. If I can...I can try and destroy it from within. Might seem dangerous, but it's the most logical thing to do.
