The Fachan: The Log

WHO: Those who signed up for The Fachan portion of the event!
WHAT: Fighting The Fachan - More information
WHEN: 1/25/2016 ~~Sorry this is getting posted late.~~
WHERE: A flattened portion of The Maw, destroyed by the first shard from the fissure.
WARNINGS: Violence.

The smell of death. That was the only way that the scent that wreaked havoc through the air could be described. The Fachan had once been found under the Maw but after its home was destroyed by the fissure in Genessia, it claimed a much larger area of space, fighting and typically winning against anything that came into it. As if to signify its territory, there are dismembered arms, eyes, and feathers strewn about along the 'border' of its territory. Some of them are smaller, obviously different kinds of animals. Others.. may questionably be from other sentient creatures of Fayren.

Defeating the Fachan may not be possible without using intellect instead of brute strength. After all, the Fachan's only weak point seems to be hidden beneath its tuft- the same area where the shard is hidden.

Play out fighting the Fachan any way you would like. Sign ups for this log are now closed, though the following two quests are still open. This log will be played out similarly to a bounty- characters are in charge of NPCing the Fachan except when they get to a point where they are going to try something to get the shard away from the Fachan. At which point, you should comment here with a link to the thread at the portion of the thread where your character's group/team plays out their idea. A mod will notify you if the attempt is successful. Within those who signed up, you may have as two characters to however many you like out of those who have signed up within a team. This gives you as much freedom within the event as you like. If multiple teams submit responses that may succeed before 2/1/2015, moderators will RNG which team succeeds. After 1/30, the first successful attempt linked will be the one that works. (This way threads that get there first won't have an unfair advantage over people who have lengthy to-do lists or surprise business and everyone gets a fair chance.)

*Notice: Mass-area attacks may damage the shard, so your character cannot just drop a meteor or shoot a massive laser beam at the Fachan and call it a day. If you break the shard into smaller pieces than can be carried back to the fissure, it won't work! The CPU will provide this information to your character's device after your character is in visible range of the Fachan.

For: Aqua, Belle and Balthier

Congratulations, your team has succeeded! Apologies for the delay in response.

[As Aqua steps up to the Fachan's territory her fingers reach up to cover her lips and nose. She's read some about this creature and listen to those would who tell her stories or weaknesses but nothing prepared her for the smell. She notices the bones and limbs littered around the area and swallows. If need be she can heal but she can't regrow limbs.

As if to make matters more complicated Aqua is used to solving things with strength however she isn't opposed to using her head.

Her bright watery blue eyes peek over at the grotesque creature before looking back at those with her.]

It carries the share with it so a distraction won't work.

[Aqua lightly presses a single finger to her lip.]

We can't risk breaking the shard either.

[Belle had been following the whole time with a book in hand, she was still looking up some information that she was hoping could prove useful. But she figured that might take a little bit longer.

She was so focused not even the smell got to her. She wanted to see if there was a nicer way to handle it without the use of violence if needs be.]

It might attack if we go too near either, so I am trying to see if there is a way to get it long distance or to even handle it really.

[Balthier crept up behind the two ladies, crouching low to the ground as the others came to a stop. The stench from the beast was nothing to shake a stick at, but no worse than a Malboro if he were honest.

It did make him wrinkle his nose in disgust, though, but he looked between the two of them before looking back across the distance toward the fiend.]

I don't suppose either of you have a Sleep spell handy, do you? I may be able to, but my majicks aren't the strongest.

[Aqua looks over at Balthier curiously.]

I can cast magic but I don't know a spell like that. Unless I can strengthen your spell.

[She thinks about it for a moment and then nods her head.]

Other than that I have elemental spells I can use.

[She looks over at the other two.]

I can't really help magic wise. Unless you count reading a spell from a book. But I am trying to see if I can figure out it's weak point.

[She turns a page, skimming through it. It had been one she had read a few times before as well, but sometimes even she forgot things.]

However I do know even if we move close while trying to be peaceful, they will attack because we'd be in their territory. So before you try anything, maybe we could try and go from behind so we have the advantage first.

[Balthier's eyes narrowed in thought. He nodded toward Aqua. He'd never had someone increase the power of his majiks before, but it might be worth a try if they could lull the beast into sleep and simply steal the shard from its mane, that would be fantastic.

If it were to wake, though...

He looked to Belle momentarily.]

Do you know how keen this creature's hearing is?

[Aqua instantly understood Balthiers train of thought however something else struck her.]

Or all of it's senses, if we are in it's territory it might hunt by smell.

[Which means it might wake up by smell as well.]

[She soon closed the book, shaking her head slightly. She couldn't see anything about the creatures hearing.]

I can't see anything. I guess that means it's senses could be consider the same as mine or yours. Or people haven't studied them enough to be exact. However I guess since it only has one eye, maybe the other sense are heightened since sight wouldn't be as good.

[He nods, his voice barely above a whisper.]

Which would suggest it has no depth perception, but I agree, it's other senses are most likely more acute to compensate.

[Balthier is by no means an expert on monsters. He knows enough to stay alive in the wilds, though.]

Aqua, how would this amplification work?

[Aqua looks at him a slight smile pulling at her lips. She pulls what looks like a shimmering crystal from her bag and then shows it to Balthier.]

This is a Fleeting Crystal. I have a few and it will be able to boost your spells like sleep, bind and things to that effect.

[She grows more confident as a plan forms in her thoughts.]

I'll cast Slow. It certainly won't stop him but it'll give us an advantage to dodge. Blathier can take this crystal and use it, only you have to know how, you absorb the magic of it into you and the crystal will vanish. [Assuming he's okay with that.] It'll boost your spell.

I'll stand in front of it as a cast and keep it's slowed attention while you get ready Balthier and that will put me in a position to protect Belle. [She turns towards the other.] You'll have to reach into it's maine and get the Crystal Shard. I know you can be quiet and very skilled. I'll be there to back you up but you are the best one for the task.

[It's a least easy to work with Belle since Aqua and her have been training together.]

[Belle just listened and slowly nodded slight;y. It actually sounded like they were forming a pretty good plan to say the least and Belle felt confident that she was able to do as she was told at least.]

I think I get the idea. I will keep a distance until it's Slowed at least, then try and go around and try from behind.

[Balthier listens through her plan, nodding as Aqua finishes her explanation. That was precisely his plan, after all.]

And once you've slowed the beast, absorb the mist in this crystal, cast sleep, and then, [He looks to Belle] Pray to the gods it isn't immune. We're counting on you.

[And he looks back to Aqua.] I believe you're taking the lead on this one.

[Aqua nods and then hands the crystal over to Balthier. Once that's done she very slowly moves around the creature, her steps silent as she gets in front of it's eye. She waits a few seconds and then stands to grab the creatures attention.

Her keyblade flashes into her palm and she cast lighting at the beast hoping that is enough to keep him occupied.]

[It appeared to be enough to cause the beast to react as Belle had started to move toward the side, so far it seemed okay. She was at least managing to not be attacked which was something at least.]

[As soon as Balthier palms the crystal, he can feel the mist swirling within it. Perhaps she has a different name for the energies contains within the jewel, but the outcome is the same. He absorbs the crystal's power as easily as he would from any other, and he feels the power add itself to his own. He was practically vibrating with it.

He stepped confidently behind Aqua, their first line of defense, and summoned forth the sleep spell in his mind. It already felt more powerful before he even released it at the beast, a smirk teasing the corners of his mouth as he motioned in Belle's direction.]

Your mark!

[If anything it was hard to figure out how Flandre figured out about this but it sparked something in her. Going out, looking at things around and asking questions to people with very little fear was a large step in the right direction. So that day she was out and about, chatting animatedly to others..before slowly coming across the boarder making. ]

...That's not very nice....but where is it now....

"It could be anywhere." Sakuya had appeared next to Flandre, gently reaching down to take the parasol from the little vampire and holding it higher, ensuring her wingtips didn't get burned.

"Young Miss. If you would allow me to accompany you. I wish to ensure your safety should something unexpected happen." The maid was out of her formal uniform, wearing something in black and a bit more decorative with white pinstripes on her top and decorative apron with a floral pattern. "I have also brought refreshments should you grow weary and wish to catch your breath.

It was always a good thing that Flandre hand long since gotten used to Sakuya appearing near her. Her only reaction is to look up and listen nodding for a second a small smile on her face.

"If you want to Sakuya, I won't mind. Besides..this thing is weird..not like anything I read about before now."

Her attention is pulled away once more, gazing about with a thoughtful look on her face.

"...I don't know how to deal with it though..I don't want to make it go Kyuu but maybe give it a chance?"

[Cipher wasn't exactly sure why he cared enough to set foot out here to aid in retrieving the shard. Maybe he was tired of people randomly showing up in Everglade and him being nice enough to escort them back out, or maybe he was intrigued enough to explore Fayren further. Either one.

In the human guise of Liam, he steps into the creature's territory, two crows perched on his shoulder- a red eyed one on his left and a blue eyed one on his right. His casually looks to the limbs scattered across the ground, neither phased by the sight or the smell. Both seemed like it was something he was used to.]

Disgusting. Clearly it was too much of me to expect to encounter a creature with some semblance of class.

[ Despite being the self-appointed leader of this little trio, Weiss is also the first one to complain when they get close. ]

That's disgusting. Remind me why no one's tried to kill this thing before?

[ She definitely had no problem being the one to do it, but she can't imagine how this went unnoticed.. then again, most of The Maw was unexplored. Weiss pulled a handkerchief out of her little fanny pack and covered her mouth with it as they continued walking, her eyes narrowed in disgust. ]

Maybe because of how it smells? Phew...why didn't we bring some gas masks for this. Or air fresheners.

[Yang's already got her gauntlets out as she waves one in front of her face, nose scrunched up.]

So...do we stick with the plan? I beat it up and you grab the shard?

[Troy was just behind the two girls, fully armored with his rifle at the ready and a small rocket launcher looking weapon magnetized to his back. He didn't bring his sword and knife with him that's normally holstered on his legs. Instead, he brought his two energy blades, discretely stored in his armor's forearms where his grenade launchers were once housed. As he was content on just following the two huntresses-in-training; Troy observed the surroundings through his HUD, taking note of the dismembered body parts dangling all around them and thanking his lucky stars that he can't smell what they were smelling.]

It's not much of a plan, but that oughta do.

[Troy looks up from where they were, looking for other points he could come from for a sneak attack.]

And I'll find another angle to approach it when Yang's got it distracted.

[ Weiss stops in her tracks, holding out both of her hands in the stop motion. ] In case neither of you noticed, we're not exactly ninja warriors. We're not going in with our plan being "Yang, smash." [ Who are they, JNPR? ] Once we locate it, Yang can take the lead in the fight. It's better if she takes more damage than the two of us anyway. Keep its focus on you as much as you possibly can.

[ She turns to Troy, pointing to him and then herself. ]

Troy, you and I will use the rubble as cover to sneak around to its other side. At that point, I need you to try to sneak up on it. With Yang drawing its attention it should be possible. If we can time it right, its attentions will be focused on Troy's surprise attack and I should be able to dash-flip right over both he and it to grab the shard. The second I'm out of the line of fire, Troy needs to hit it to distract it and then I think it's time for Freezer Burn. The townspeople said it was incredibly territorial, so as long as we can get out of what it considers its territory after that, we shouldn't have a problem. Does that sound feasible to you two?

[Yang turns to regard Weiss and listen to her plan, nodding along as its laid out.]

Throwing me under the fachan aren't you, Weiss? Letting poor ol' me get beat up like that.

[She's obviously joking as she pounds her fists into each other, the gauntlets chiming lightly from the metal bouncing off metal.]

I'm good with this plan. Keeps it nice and simple and lets me do what I do best. Punch things in the face.

[Troy nods at Weiss after she aired out her game plan. He was thinking along the same lines, so he's good with the idea. He then looks to Yang and took notice of her hot-blooded nature. While his is more subdued, that's definitely something they have in common.]

Stealthy approach. I like it.

[He adjust his hold on his weapon. Maybe this isn't the time to have brought his particle cannon with him. But he'll have another time to test it, and not that it would make any difference anyway. He can still be very fast and stealthy in his armor]

I'll lead for a bit if ya don't mind. My armor should be able to sense it's exact location from a good distance before it sees us.

The more hits you take, Yang, the more he'll regret his decision to keep things that aren't his.

[ She nods at Troy and slows down to let him in front. Even if she's a City Guardian, she knows the value of not always having to be in the lead. Weiss wasn't about to say no to having a good view of the creature before it saw them. ]

[Yang throws a quick glance over at Weiss.]

You know even I have my limits right? I'm not some juggernaut of strength.

[Though that's not to say she'll fall easy. A giant robot punch is still pretty strong after all.]

Hey, if you can find it before us, might help if we don't have to distract it and Weiss could just flips over its head and grab the shard before it notices we're even there.

Alrighty.

[Troy nods and walked in front of the two girls, making as few sounds as he could with his footsteps despite the armor he's wearing. He turns around to respond to Yang's comment]

Where's the fun in that? But hey, if it didn't catch me snooping around, we might as well. I'll update you both if I see anything.

[He chuckles and gives a short and casual salute with his two fingers before turning his back on the two, quickening his pace to blend with the shadows]

Well obviously, that's why my plan had Troy coming in and then me. You two can probably both take more hits than I can.

[ She may be a City Guardian, but she's aware of her limits. And they mostly lie around her ability to take really hard hits and long-term stamina. Weiss looks a little concerned at Yang's plan. She'd feel safer if there was a distraction first but...

If it'll protect her team- Yang and Troy, right now- from taking any damage, then it's worth a shot. ]

I never thought you'd be one to want to sit out a fight, Yang. But I'll try if we can successfully sneak up on it.

Hey, I'm never one to turn down a fight. But if you ask me, trying to beat something we don't know anything about is asking for trouble. I'd like to be able to go home tonight you know?

Do you guys think it's far? We've been moving for quite a while.
