⚒ second - OTA
WHO: Zeref, open
WHAT: Zeref is intrigued by the Fayren waterways. Except, just as he's about to enter...
WHEN: February 27th, 2014
WHERE: Fayren, just outside the waterways.
NOTES: Starting in action, but I'll go with whatever you want.
[ For the longest time, Zeref felt that strong magical presence and assumed it was merely coming from Fairy Tail's guild headquarters. It was a strange presence; one that had him curious. It didn't quite feel like any of the mages he had met on Sirius Island, and yet, it attracted him like a moth to a chandelier. Perhaps against his better judgment, it wasn't until a rather cold evening that Zeref felt the need to finally enter Fayren for the first time in weeks. One of the nice things about Sirius had been its warm climate; the worst he had to worry about was the occasional tropical storm. Never the bitter cold of winter. That wasn't the case, here, and he didn't have a nice underground, heated bunker as shelter, here, like he did in Exsilium.
It wasn't until he was actually within the village limits that he realized that the presence wasn't coming from the Fairy Tail guild hall; it was coming from under it. The aqueducts. An underground waterway, which, normally, would be unsavory even to him. But, well, it couldn't have been any worse than Cube, even if most of the demons are at least civilized enough to clean the place.
Zeref stuck to the alleyways, doing his best to stay out of the public light, just in case the Death Preying picked a bad time to awaken. Aside from the cold, it was at least a somewhat pleasant evening; the moon was out, and it reflected quite nicely on the semi-frozen water. Zeref didn't have the materials to pry open a manhole, meaning he'd have to find a place where it opened into a tributary feeding into the sea. By the time he found one, it was just near the oh-so-aptly named 'Drunken Monkey' inn.
Zeref was just about to enter the cavernous waterway, when he heard what he had been dreading.
"Well, well."
Zeref turned, spying four men. Some had fresh bruises, another had a scar. One had a canvas sack over his shoulder, with a strange, blue, bioluminescent glow coming from within. Mushrooms, of some kind. "And he's got a necklace. I bet it's worth way more than these mushrooms!"
Zeref frowned. ]
Leave me. For your sakes.
[ The largest of the men laughed. "Hear that? The pretty boy thinks he's a tough guy." One of the men advanced, drawing a knife. Zeref didn't move. He didn't retreat, he didn't step forward. He only frowned, his eyes slowly changing from black, to a bright red. His features grew darker, his outline glowing with small, black wisps of energy. ]
I said, leave. [ The men froze. "S-Shit... he's one of those mages," the man holding the sack stammered. "The boss ain't paying me enough to fight mages, you're on your own!" And off he went, sack and all. "Get your ass back here!" two more ran after him, the largest shouting orders at the man with the sack. Something about him being a 'coward.' Zeref wasn't listening. The last man, the one with his knife drawn, was starting to quake with fear. The otherwise seemingly docile mage in the white, black, and gold robes looked nothing like he did two minutes ago. In the dark, his eyes looked like two red beacons. ]
This is your last chance. I didn't want to kill anyone tonight. [ Zeref was telling the truth. In fact, he had no desire to kill at all; his Death Magic would be weakened considerably. Of course, the man before him wasn't a mage. He still didn't have a chance. "R-Right... uh... n-nothing personal, we're just hungry, we've got families, and..." he didn't even finish his sentence. He turned, and ran. Zeref's eyes slowly shifted back to black, his magic fading. He sighed, and turned back to the entrance of the aqueduct. Hopefully, that small amount of his magic wasn't going to be enough to alert Fairy Tail to his presence. ]
I don't blame you. [ Zeref said, to nobody in particular now that the would-be robbers - rather, would-be robbers whose families would have been accepting Darwin Awards for their deceased relatives - were gone. ] I blame your nature. Humans have always held a predisposition to take what they want by force. You're not alone in that.
[ Zeref's eyes closed, as he began making his way towards the waterway's entrance. He pulled the white layer of his robes tighter around, hoping to stave off some of the cold. ]
I hope you learned something tonight.
